Actor Saif Ali Khan looks to be in some sort of trouble over his Padma Shri award, following a complaint by RTI activist Subhash Aggarwal asking the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) to take back the award, as Khan has criminal cases pending against him
Aggarwal told ANI, "I had filed a complaint in the Ministry of Home Affairs when a Mumbai court had framed charges against him. I had demanded that the Padma award must be taken back from him. This is not the first time that I've filed this complaint. When he was bestowed the Padma award, he was involved in various cases and I had objected that how did the investigating agencies clear his name and who has recommended his name?"
"The whole process of selection for the Padma awards is faulty. In a 2-4 hours' meeting, ten members unanimously select 100 members out of 1500 members. It is only possible if it's a pre-approved list and is endorsed as a rubber stamp," he added.
But whether the actor would actually lose his award remains to be seen.
Congress leader Rajeev Shukla said that it was incorrect to conclude from reports that Saif's Padma award is being taken back or even whether the process is underway.
Saif had been involved in a scuffle case in a restaurant in 2012 when he had allegedly hit a South Africa-based businessman and his father.
The popular Bollywood actor was bestowed the Padma Shri award in 2010 for his contribution in the field of arts.
