Salman Khan's 'Kick' box office collections break Shah Rukh Khan stranglehold on all-time No 3 spot

That there is still some power left in Salman Khan's 'Kick' box office collections is clear from the fact that there is a steady flow of money over the third week too.

Salman Khan's 'Kick' box office collections have achieved yet another milestone!
Sajid Nadiadwala's directorial debut film, which has become box office collections highest grosser of 2014, has now beaten Shah Rukh Khan-starrer 'Chennai Express' (Rs 227.13 crore) record to become the third highest grosser of all time.

Interestingly, 'Chennai Express' recorded a stunning Rs 100.42 crore opening weekend as compared to Kick's earning of Rs 83.73 crore. But subsequent weeks and weekends saw 'Kick' taking the lead over the business of the SRK movie.
That there is still some power left in Salman Khan's 'Kick' box office collections is clear from the fact that there is a steady flow of money over the third week too.
The Salman Khan-starrer collected Rs 1.35 crore on Tuesday and Rs 1.10 crore on Wednesday, capping its domestic collections at Rs 228.08 crore in 20 days. The film had generated Rs 164.09 crore in Week 1 and Rs 51.02 crore in Week 2. While 'Kick' entered the Rs 100 core club on Day 5, it reached the Rs 200 crore mark on the 11th day.
The collections for Week 3, pegged by trade analyst Taran Adarsh, stand at: Friday Rs 1.97 crore, Saturday Rs 2.94 crore, Sunday Rs 3.92 crore, Monday Rs 1.69 crore and Tuesday Rs 1.35 crore with a grand total of Rs 226.98 crore (India).
Adarsh has also declared the film as all-time blockbuster.

Some more records are likely to fall in the near future because of never-say-die performance of 'Kick'. As far as domestic market is concerned, 'Kick' will need to add Rs 16.85 crore more to its kitty to go ahead of Hrithik Roshan's 'Krrish 3' box office collections record and Rs 56.20 crore to challenge the biggest move of them all in Bollywood, Aamir Khan-starrer 'Dhoom 3' - the going will get tough on Friday with the Independence Day (August 15) release of Ajay Devgn's 'Singham Returns', but 'Kick' is still in the running for Bollywood box office pinnacle.
‘Kick’ is produced by the Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment banner. The film is a remake of Telugu film of the same name, with a screenplay adapted by Nadiadwala and Chetan Bhagat.
'Kick' is still performing good at multiplexes

Singham returns to box office with roaring success

Singham Returns

Ajay Devgn-starrer Singham Returns, which raked in Rs 32 crore on its opening day on August 15, upstaged Salman Khan’s Kick, which was the highest opening day grosser for 2014 at Rs 26 crore.

Rohit Shetty, who directed and co-produced the movie, now has two films with more than Rs 30 crore opening day collection — the second one being last year’s Eid release Chennai Express. Singham Returns joins Salman Khan’s 2012 Independence Day release Ek Tha Tiger, Hrithik Roshan’s Krissh 3 and Aamir Khan’s Dhoom 3 to be in the top five opening day collections by a Bollywood movie.

The film is a sequel to the 2011 film Singham, which starred Ajay Devgn in the titular role, and did very well at the box office raking in Rs 100 crore. Devgn returns as police officer Bajirao Singham in the sequel with Kareena Kapoor playing the female lead and a supporting cast that includes Amol Gupte, Anupam Kher, Dayanand Shetty and Mahesh Manjrekar.

Many factors worked in favour of Singham Returns, say analysts. While the franchise is popular with the masses, thanks to the success of Singham, releasing the movie on a public holiday (Independence Day) has also helped improve footfall. The movie was released in nearly 3,500 screens across India, 500 shy of the 4,000 screens that Kick was released in.

However, Singham Returns, with an average occupancy of 80 per cent on the opening day pan-India, has trumped Kick’s opening day collection. “While Kick missed out on a huge movie going to audience in UP, as it was released on the last Friday of the holy month of Ramzan. In the case of Singham Returns, there was no such barrier and single screens and multiplexes across the country showed healthy occupancy,” say trade pundits.

The movie is expected to continue doing well, as many schools, colleges and offices are closed on Monday on account of Dahi Handi. Singham Returns is a popular movie among the kids as well, which is further expected to drive collections. It should be able to cross the Rs 100-crore mark by Monday night, feel distributors.

Often referred to as the Rs 100-crore director, this could be Shetty’s fifth movie to cross the box office milestone. The other movies include Chennai Express, Singham, Bol Bachchan and Golmaal 3. Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone starrer Chennai Express, in fact, kicked off the festive season at the box office last year breaking records and chugging to the Rs 200-crore mark as well.

In the case of Singham Returns, the analysts are not sure if it will cross the 200-crore mark. After the long weekend, the movie will need to sustain collections through the week before it can take advantage of the weekend once again. The current trend in Bollywood is that the first weekend (in this case it is almost four- day long) is the most voluminous in terms of collections and the following weekdays can see a drop of as much as 70 per cent in terms of box office collections. Kick defied this trend earlier last month with steady collections throughout the first week. However, the second week saw a significant dip in revenue.

Singham Returns has been made with a budget of Rs 110-115 crore (including production, prints and advertising). The broadcast rights of the movie have been sold to STAR India under a deal between Devgn and the channel network. The deal, valued at approximately Rs 400 crore, is similar to the network’s agreement with Salman Khan, and gives it the telecast rights to all of Devgn’s movies released between 2013 and 2017. Devgn is also a co-producer on the film along with Reliance Entertainment.

Ajay, Kareena Roar in Singham Returns

The first look of Singham Returns, the sequel to 2011 hit Singham, is out. The poster of the film stars Ajay Devgn, who reprises his role as a cop in the movie, and Kareena Kapoor, both wearing sunglasses tinged with saffron and green, the colours of the Indian flag. Singham Returns, which releases on Independence Day, is likely to be packed with thrilling car chases and gravity-defying action in the manner that director Rohit Shetty is famous for.

Ajay, who appears super-excited about the movie, also shared the date of the launch of the movie's trailer and tweeted: Aur haan.. 11th July ko hai @SinghamReturns ka trailer launch, mark the date #SinghamReturns.

Shah Rukh Khan, Ajay Devgn hug and make up

Shah Rukh Khan and Ajay Devgn recently patched up on the sets of Rohit Shetty’s 'Singham Returns’.
Shah Rukh Khan and Ajay Devgn recently patched up on the sets of Rohit Shetty’s 'Singham Returns’.

Bollywood superstars Shah Rukh Khan and Ajay Devgn, who have not been on very good terms over the years, recently patched up on the sets of Rohit Shetty’s ‘Singham Returns’.

According to a report published in Times Of India, Shah Rukh Khan was driving around Bandra and came to know of Rohit Shetty filming for his upcoming flm along with lead actors, Ajay Devgn and Kareena Kapoor at a nearby school.
Being a close friend of Rohit Shetty, especially after working together on ‘Chennai Express’, SRK decided to pay them a visit. Apparently, the actor walked up to Ajay Devgn and embraced him warmly, leaving both Rohit and Kareena pleasantly surprised.
The relationship between Shah Rukh Khan and Ajay Devgn went sour when their respective films, ‘Jab Tak Hai Jaan’ and ‘Son of Sardaar’ clashed at the box office in 2012.
Actor-producer Ajay Devgn had served a legal notice to Yash Raj Films for “unfairly” using their dominant position in the industry and putting exhibitors to give prominence to ‘Jab Tak Hai Jaan’ over ‘Son of Sardar’.

We’re sure Ajay’s wife Kajol , who has worked with Shah Rukh Khan in various hits and is a very close friend of SRK, must be breathing a sigh of relief!
