Shweta Basu sex scandal: Deepika Padukone extends support

While most people in the industry chose to keep mum on the prostitution scandal involving actress Shweta Basu Prasad, Bollywood beauty Deepika Padukone came out in support of the National Award Winner.

According to a report when questioned about the issue, the 'Finding Fanny' actress said that if this was the only thing she could do to support herself and her family then there is nothing wrong in it. Demanding justice for the National Award winning actress, Deepika said that rather than making it a scandal we should understand her problem and extend a helping hand.

So far, the 'Makdee' actress has found support from her onscreen mother Sakshi Tanwar, filmmakers Nagesh Kukunoor, Karan Johar and Vishal Bharadwaj and film producer Hansal Mehta.

Last week, 23-year-old actress Shweta Basu Prasad was arrested by the Hyderabad Police in connection with a high profile prostitution racket.

Some applause is due for Deepika Padukone for speaking strongly about such an important issue as the young and talented actress had to resort to prostitution due to lack of money.

South Indian actress Divya Sri caught in sex racket after Shweta Basu

According to sources quoted by a news portal, the latest Tollywood actress to be caught in a prostitution racket after Shweta Prasad Basu is Divya Sri. Divya Sri acted in the Telugu film B Tech Babu. The cops got a tip from an informer and caught the actress red-handed, it was reported by One India. The actress, Divya Sri, who was arrested from a house in Guntur was not the only one but involved in the sex racket but it also has been reported that many other model-actresses have been arrested along with Divya. Actor Pawan Kumar, Chandu and others have been running the racket in the city, the portal quoted sources as saying. Last week, Shweta Prasad Basu was arrested from a star hotel at Banjara Hills in Hyderabad and revealed upon interrogation that many other famous actresses are also involved in flesh trade. We don't want to see Shweta Prasad Basu on Bigg Boss. Period.

It's a TV classic. A prime-time show, where celebs come, bitch, make 'friends', let out their 'secrets', have flirtatious relationships... all in front of the prying eyes of millions of viewers. Out of these, some get famous just like that; others fight for their 15 minutes of fame. Yes, what else, we're talking about Bigg Boss.

If you don't know already, it's that time of the year again! Pre-Bigg Boss time! The time when rumour mills set rolling and work overtime to come up with a list of likely housemates who'll be locked inside the famed house for the 'journey of their life'.

And now we have so many tongues wagging that former child actor Shweta Prasad Basu could be one of the contestants of the show, after she hit headlines for her involvement in a prostitution racket. Why? Because she promises drama, both in and out of the house! A relative newcomer to the fame game, it is immaterial whether she'd indulge the more experienced celebs in the house -- and the audience -- and tell her side of the story. But, going by Bigg Boss tradition, she will no doubt grab eyeballs, and that's a win-win situation for the channel's bigwigs in their battle for TRPs.

Here's what we feel: Shweta Prasad Basu should not be a contestant of Bigg Boss 8 because we don't want to see her go the Anita Advani or Rakhi Sawant way and parade herself in front of millions in order to get sympathy. The point is simple: Whatever her circumstances, needs, or the compulsion, before she decided to demean herself, this girl does not need our sympathies.

Honestly, who are we to judge? She did something she thought was the right thing to do and it should be none of our business. Anybody's business, for that matter. And if a few stubborn ones among us insist it is, here's a question: Would Shweta Prasad's presence in a group of bitchy, politicking, hungry-to-win contestants help identify the men who didn't have any moral qualms before they went to her? Sure, the world will not change even if we hear who they were, what they do or how 'connected' they are to people who matter. If nothing else, at least it could give us all a sense of closure. No?

Again, the world will also not change if we don’t find out who these men are.  Will any action be taken against them or the men who are involved in running the racket?  So, why do we need to see Prasad on our TV screens every night? What will she get by coming on the show?

Just because the entire world seems to be interested in knowing what-the-hell-went-wrong with what we thought would be a famous actor some day, doesn't mean she should get bullied by greedy television executives hungry to create drama and drive up ratings and sell her story.

Just because we suffer from extreme narcissism doesn't mean Shweta Prasad should validate herself by having everyone watch her all the time. We don't want to see her look like a broken soul, who needs a TV show to show people what she truly is, and what she isn't.

Reality TV is one funny place -- it puts immense pressure on contestants, who don't always know exactly what they have signed up for. Prasad might already be psychologically fragile, add to that the pressure of 'looking good', 'sounding right'.

No, Prasad doesn’t need to go through this whole attention-seeking journey of proving something to god knows whom, reacting to the 'games' of other housemates, trying to make them like her, and in the process trying to win our hearts. No, we don't want to see her pouting, posing, primping, preening on Bigg Boss. We want the whole sex racket episode to end and end now. Because, once she's on Bigg Boss, there's no ending this sex racket saga! sthash.

`Makdee` actress Shweta Basu to reveal her clients' names in prostitution racket?

 

Young actress Shweta Basu Prasad, who was arrested last week in a prostitution racket case by the Hyderabad police, is most likely to reveal the identity of her clients.

As per reports,  her clients are said to be very high profile business tycoons from many big cities across the country.

It has also been learnt that these businessmen had coughed up one lakh each to a pimp so that they could spend the night with her.

The young actress, who is now 23-year-old was caught in a compromising position, when the police raided a plush hotel at Banjara Hills. The actress was held in company of a pimp, along with some high profile businessmen from Mumbai.

While the police had exposed Shweta's name in the prostitution racket, they did not come up with the names of her clients. But now, it seems Shweta is ready to bring in light the names of her clients who are supposedly big names and influential business tycoons.

According to reports, the 'Makdee' actress took to flesh trade due to financial losses and got into the prostitution racket voluntarily, as she had to support her family and other causes.

Shweta tasted success at a very tender age and went on to grab great roles in films such as 'Makdee', which even won her a National Award for Best Child Artist in the year 2002.

Incidentally, this is not the first time that her name has surfaced in connection with a prostitution racket. Shweta is also reported to have been exposed in a sting operation recently.

10 Forgotten Child Stars: From Glory to Oblivion

Shweta Basu Prasad: From winning the National Award for 2002's Makdee to currently being the centre of a prostitution scandal, this former child star is a textbook example of how premature fame often proves destructive for so many showbiz kids. Shweta appeared in the memorable Iqbal (2005), which fetched her a Filmfare nomination for Best Supporting Actress, and, less memorably, in Vaah Life Ho Toh Aisi (2005) and Darna Zaroori Hai (2006). Then, she disappeared from the Bollywood scene.

She's not alone. Others like Shweta had dream Bollywood runs, beginning with a bang - but their stardom was shortlived and they faded into oblivion with the passing years.

Jugal Hansraj: The heart and soul of 1983 film Masoom became an instant hit but proved to be a star that burnt away all too soon. All grown up, Jugal Hansraj tried his luck as a hero in 1994's Aa Gale Lag Jaa and Papa Kehte Hain (1996). He had some success with Yash Raj Films' 2000 movie Mohabbatein but only minor roles in multi-star films followed. He turned writer and director for box office duds - the 2008 computer-animated film Roadside Romeo and the 2010 outing Pyaar Impossible, starring Uday Chopra and Priyanka Chopra. He recently married his girfriend Jasmine in USA but has not otherwise been heard of.

Darsheel Safary: The pint-sized actor floored everyone with his performance as a dyslexic child in the 2007 film Taare Zameen Par. A star was born - one that had held his own against the redoubtable Aamir Khan - and at one point in time, he was reportedly making as much money as cricketers from endorsements and advertisements. However, the glory was a brief candle and, apart from a role in Deepa Mehta's 2012 film Midnight's Children and a stint on the reality show Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa the same year, we've hardly seen anything of Darsheel on the silver screen.

Parzan Dastur: Remember the adorable turbanator who used to count stars in Karan Johar's Kuch Kuch Hota Hai (1998)? Parzan Dastur, who is also remembered for his Dhara advert, went on to do films like Break Ke Baad (2010) and Sikandar (2009). However, both roles went unnoticed. The teenager is now reportedly vying for a comeback in Bollywood - behind the camera this time - and has joined Karan Johar's production company to learn the basics of production and direction.

Ayesha Kapoor: As the younger version of differently-abled Michelle McNally in the 2005's Black, Ayesha received equal critical admiration as the film's senior actors Rani Mukerji and Amitabh Bachchan. Her subsequent role in Sikandar (2009) went unnoticed and she is reportedly pursuing a career in accessory designing.

Baby Guddu: Real name Shahinda Baig, the actress was one of the most adorable child artistes in the ‘70s and the ‘80s, featuring in films such as Paap Aur Punya (1974), Kudrat ka Kanoon (1987), Pyar Ka Mandir (1988), Shoorvir (1988), Ganga Tere Desh Mein (1988) and Jurm (1990). She ended her film career with 1991 film Inspector Dhanush and reportedly lives in Dubai now.

Master Bittoo: Real name Vishal Desai, the actor stole the hearts of the audience in popular films such as Amar Prem (1972) Chupke Chupke (1975), Amar Akbar Anthony (1977), Mr. Natwarlal (1979), Do Aur Do Paanch (1980) and Yaarana (1981). His final appearance was in the 1997 film Aakhri Sanghursh and, last heard, will reportedly direct a movie for BR Films.

Alankar Joshi: Best known for playing the young Amitabh Bachchan character in Yash Chopra's Deewar (1979), Alankar appeared in over 100 films, including Dream Girl, Don, Sholay, Seeta Aur Geeta, Andaz, Bachpan and Zameer. He faded away after the 1987 film Satyamev Jayate. His sister Pallavi Joshi emerged as a popular television star while Alankar is now an IT guru and owns a software business spread across the world.

Aditya Narayan: The son of Udit Narayan, he played Mahima Chaudhary's younger brother in the 1997 hit film Pardes. This was followed by a role as Salman Khan's son in Jab Pyar Kisi Se Hota Hai (1998). In 2010, he acted in Vikram Bhatt's Shaapit. The movie went noticed and Aditya continued to remain on the fringes of stardom with a more successful alternate career as a playback singer. He reportedly assisted filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali in Ram-Leela (2013) and sang the songs Ishqyaun Dhishqyaun and Tattad Tattad.

Master Satyajeet: Satyajeet Puri was a popular child actor and made his debut at the age of six in Satyen Bose's film Mere Lal in 1966. He also appeared in films such as Khilona (1970), Anuraag (1973), Hari Darshan (1972) and Bidaai (1974). He graduated to grown up roles in ‘80s and ‘90s films such as Arjun, Khoon Bhari Maang, Shola Aur Shabnam, Dulaara, and Zameer with little success. He will reportedly direct a biopic of Major Dhyan Chand, with Shah Rukh Khan tipped to play the hockey legend.

Shweta Basu Prasad, Child Star of 2002 Bollywood Hit, Arrested for Prostitution

National award winning actress Shweta Basu, who was arrested for prostitution here, has revealed that she took to the sex trade as she was running out of money.

The 23-year-old actress, who was arrested Sunday, is currently lodged in a state-run rescue home. She admitted she made wrong choices in her career.

"I was out of money. I had to support my family and some other good causes. All the doors were closed, and some people encouraged me to get into prostitution to earn money. I was helpless, and with no option left to choose, I got involved in this act," police sources quoted her as saying.

The actress, seen in films like Makdee and Iqbal also revealed that there were other actresses like her who went through this.

Shweta, who shot to fame as a child artiste in Ekta Kapoor's television serial Kahaani Ghar Ghar Ki, bagged the national award for best child artist for Makdee in 2002.

The actress, who also did a few films in Bengali, Tamil and Telugu, was arrested from a hotel Sunday night along with the sex racket's organiser Anjaneyulu alias Balu.

The next day, a court here sent her to a rescue home run by the women and child welfare department.

She underwent a medical examination at a government hospital before she was sent to the rescue home, where women rescued by police and those facing trial are given shelter during the trial period.

The inmates are provided with free food, clothing, medical care and also vocational training. She is likely to stay in the rescue home for three months.

Balu, who was reportedly collecting Rs 1 lakh each from high flying customers, has been sent to jail.
