Tanushree disillusioned by controversies around 'Apartment

Actress Tanushree Dutta is feeling disillusioned with the controversies surrounding her latest release, Jagmohan Mundra directed 'Apartment'.

Rumours have been doing the rounds that Tanushree has done some explicit scenes and there is also an lesbian angle between her and Neetu Chandra. She has also been accused of a cat fight with Chandra. Naturally, the 29-year-old actress is feeling disappointed with the way this entire episode has taken shape.

"I feel so disappointed when I see such rumours floating around 'Apartment'. Am I here to work in films dealing with subjects centred on sex? Am I indulging into fights with my co-stars all the time? Come on, at the end of the day I have to safeguard my image as well," Tanushree said.

"My credibility as an actor is also associated with a film and it is not fair for me, who has worked so hard so far, to be getting dragged into something like this. Give me some credit for my work, talk about the way I have approached my character. But such stories just take all attention away from the relevant topics," she said.

The actress, who was recently seen as a possessed female in horror thriller 'Rokkk' and saw some good critical appreciation coming her way is playing a victim  while Chandra plays the role of a schizophrenic in the film, which released on Friday. Tanushree playing an air hostess who hires a paying guest only to get victimised by her. However, what is indeed playing in Tanushree's mind is the way certain stories have been plugged as a part of promotional campaign of 'Apartment'.

"The way things have been written about 'Apartment', I am wondering what's the kind of mileage has it eventually gained? You work so hard on a film, put your blood and sweat and then something like this happens. Really, this isn't something that I had signed up for. The way I have been dragged in controversies that have nothing to do with me, I feel so disillusioned. I am hurt" she says.

The actress says she has given her best to the role and hopes the film will do well at the box office. "At the end of the day, results are not always in my hands. I have put my best in 'Apartment'. Beyond that, I am not thinking much. I have stopped building expectations long time back itself." Tanushree began her Bollywood career opposite Emraan Hashmi in 'Aashiq Banaya Aapne'.

There is doubt that ROKKK will remain an important film in Tanushree Dutta's career. The reason is very simple- She got across the board praise for her acting and especially for conveying fear factor effortlessly using just her eyes. And that too from the harshest critics! 

Tanushree says she is happy about ROKKK but on an interesting note reveals, "I was offered a bucketful of horror films after ROKKK, but I did not want to get monotonous and typecast in similar roles, so could not accept the offers." But isn't her next filmAPARTMENT another horror film? "No, that is a misconception. APARTMENT is a psychological thriller. Neetu Chandra and I have a shared accommodation and as you know she has shades of grey and tries all sort of villainous acts. You have to see the film to experience the thrill. In fact, this is the first time that director Jagmohan Mundra is attempting this genre." So how was the experience of working with Neetu Chandra? "It was alright" says Tanu. 

That should clear any confusion about this Friday's upcoming APARTMENT being another run of the film horror flick.

‘I have not done any bold roles’

That’s what actor Neetu Chandra claims, even as her bathing scene in the forthcoming movieApartment has attracted lot of attention

Actress Neetu Chandra doesn’t like to be called a bold actress and says her much-in-news bathing scene in Jagmohan Mundhra’s Apartment is not at all vulgar. “There is no vulgarity or cheapness in the shower scene. The shot gives an illusion that I am not wearing anything but it is a trick of the camera. It’s an illusion that was created because I wasn’t comfortable shooting otherwise,” Neetu said.

The actress said she feels disturbed when people react strongly to such scenes. She said, “I play a hostel girl in the movie and in that particular scene I am just thinking about something while bathing. Now this is something so many of us do and can connect with. Besides, you can’t wear a lehenga in the bathroom. What’s realistic cinema then?”

Comparisons are being drawn between her bathing scene and a similar scene by veteran actress Smita Patil in the 1980 film Chakra. “Back then even Smita Patil knew what she was doing. It’s not wrong. I don’t do films because they have bold scenes. I do bold scenes if the script demands,” Neetu replied. 

The mention of her being known as a bold actress in Bollywood ticks off Neetu, who drew the ire of Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) activists for her girl-on-girl photo shoot for a magazine last year. “Where have I done bold roles? I have not done any bold roles. In Traffic Signal, I played a simple girl, in One Two Three I played a police officer and was covered in uniform throughout. Then in Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye! also I am not wearing revealing clothes and neither have I done anything shocking in Rann in which I play a model. So what is bold? Even in Apartment this is just a scene which you won’t even care about when you see the film,” she said, agitation ringing clear in her voice.

For Neetu, selecting a project primarily depends on director. “When a story is narrated and executed — a lot of things change. So for me, it is my director who should be good. Then I see the production house. Luckily, I have worked with some of the best people like Priyadarshan, Mahur Bhandarkar and now will be working with Anees Bazmee and Vipul Shah,” she said.

 Among her upcoming movies are Khusar Prasad Ka Bhoot, Love Jaisa Kuch and Anees Bazmee’s No Problem. Her film Apartment, which also features Tanushree Dutta, will release on April 23. Let’s see what the audience finally appreciates her for —  the bathing scene or her acting talent!

NEETU CHANDRA DENIES BEING VULGAR

Neetu Chandra denies that her bathing scene in Apartment is in any way vulgar. “There is no vulgarity or cheapness in the shower scene,” she says, “The shot gives an illusion that I am not wearing anything but it is a trick of the camera. It's an illusion that the filmmakers have created because I wasn't comfortable shooting otherwise." 

Neetu also insists that there is no lesbian element in the much-anticipated film that releases next Friday and which also stars Tanushree Dutta. “Apartment is not a lesbian film at all,” she confirms, “Why is it believed that if two females live together, they are lesbians and when two guys are together, they are gays? Haven't we been brought up together with our brothers and sisters? I don't know what is wrong with some people. They should just relax rather than be thinking around stuff like this." 

Neetu is currently working on the masala comedy No Problem with Akshaye Khanna, Kangna Ranaut, Anil Kapoor and Sushmita Sen. The movie features Kangna as an airhead who believes she’s the sexiest girl in the world with Sushmita playing the role of her elder sister.
