Average business for 'Action Jackson' at Box Office

Average business for 'Action Jackson' at Box Office

Actor-filmmaker Prabhudheva’s latest directorial “Action Jackson” will touch Rs.20 crore soon -- but trade experts figure the numbers are not overwhelming for the "routine and hackneyed" movie.

Starring Ajay Devgn, Sonakshi Sinha, Yami Gautam and Manasvi Mamgai, the action film hit approximately 3,000 screens Friday.

“It earned Rs.19 crore in two days. It was made on a budget of about Rs.75 crore and considering that, the film should’ve done better. Those who like Prabhudheva kind of films have mostly gone for it, but not everyone,” Rajesh Thadani of Multimedia Combines told reporters.

Prabhudheva is known for making massy films like “R... Rajkumar” and “Rowdy Rathore”.

Trade expert Komal Nahta tweeted: “#ActionJackson is too routine and hackneyed. Meant for masses, not for classes.”

"Sulemani Keeda", an indie comedy, also hit the screens along with the star-packed “Action Jackson”, but it also failed to earn big at the box office.

“#SulemaniKeeda is cute. Meant for people looking for different cinema. Commercial prospects are weak,” Nahta tweeted.

Thadani also has “doubts” about the film’s performance at the box office.

“The collections were negligible. It earned around Rs.25 lakh. It is for select audience,” he added.

Ajay Devgn Fiercer Than Singham in Action Jackson (Watch Trailer:)

Actor Ajay Devgn goes a step ahead of Singham with his high-octane action sequences and inclusion of a tad bit of Chinese martial arts in the trailer of his upcoming film Action Jackson.

The actor looks rugged, chiseled and fiery as he fights goons and delivers power-packed dialogues like "Main ek hi baar bolta hun, kyunki dusri baar sunne ke liye tu nahi hoga. It's my way or the sky way", "pasand aya toh dil mein, varna dimaag mein bhi nahi" and "Na commitment, na appointment, only punishment."

Ajay Devgn

Do some of those sound familiar to Salman Khan's famous dialogues?

Ajay also presents a never-seen-before on-screen persona of himself, grooving in Prabhu Deva style as he tries to woo actress Sonakshi Sinha in the movie.

Well, the trailer looks all the more interesting as Ajay is seen with three leading ladies in the movie - Sonakshi Sinha, Yami Gautam and Manasvi Mamgai.

While Sonakshi looks chic in the movie, Yami looks pretty in flowy saris and Manasvi raises the glamour quotient with her stunning looks and action sequences.

The trailer of Action Jackson is a complete entertainer. Directed by Prabhu Deva, the movie is set to release on December 5.

Shahid Kapoor’s late-night date with Jacqueline Fernandez?

Shahid Kapoor took to the wheel of his fancy ride, while Jacqueline slipped into the backseat of her own car.
Shahid Kapoor took to the wheel of his fancy ride, while Jacqueline slipped into the backseat of her own car.

Bollywood heartthrob Shahid Kapoor, who has been rumoured to have been dating Sonakshi Sinha for the past few months, surprised us when he was spotted leaving a high-end restaurant in Mumbai recently along with actress Jacqueline Fernandez.
According to onlookers, Shahid and Jacqueline were at the restaurant till 1:30 am. The actor then took to the wheel of his fancy ride, while Jacqueline slipped into the backseat of her own car.
A few weeks after ‘R…Rajkumar’ hit theatres, stories of Sonakshi and Shahid getting close were doing the rounds. It was said that the duo met on the sets of the action flick and hit it off immediately, and reportedly had a blast during the film’s promotions.
The rumoured love birds also made an appearance together on Karan Johar’s controversial chat show, ‘Koffee With Karan’ and seemed more than just comfortable in each other’s presence.
When Karan Johar brought up the topic of Sonakshi Sinha’s weight, Shahid Kapoor was quick to defend the actress saying she was curvy. Another interesting factor we just have to bring up is that, Shahid Kapoor has previously graced Karan’s couch with his girlfriends at the time, Kareena Kapoor (the first time) and Priyanka Chopra (the second time), who he was also believed to be dating. His special appearance with Sonakshi was bound to mean something or could it have just been a coincidence?
Shahid Kapoor has had a somewhat colourful past when it comes to his linkups and romances. The actor’s relationship with actress Kareena Kapoor received a lot of media attention. However, their breakup made headlines, though the duo chose not to speak publicly about when went wrong.
He was later also linked to Vidya Balan. However, those rumours eventually fizzled out.
Post ‘Kaminey’, Shahid Kapoor was also said to be dating Priyanka Chopra, who lived in the same building as the actor. The couple never admitted to any romantic involvement during the linkup. But, both maintain they are ‘good friends’ post the breakup.
Well, we hope the actor has finally found love in Sri Lankan beauty Jacqueline.

It's become a circus, it's obnoxious: Sonam Kapoor on elections

"Women need to be smart about themselves. Nobody is going to empower them," Sonam told IANS in an interview, responding to a query whether things will change for women in India in terms of safety and equality post-election.
"If we want change, we need to be the change. We can't expect to talk about it and do nothing about it," added the actress, who is the daughter of well-known actor-filmmaker Anil Kapoor.
The election will involve 814 million voters, who are hoping to see positive change in the country after the polls, but the 28-year-old, tagged as the Bollywood's style diva, begs to differ.

It's become a circus, it's obnoxious: Sonam Kapoor on elections
"If we want change, we need to be the change. We can't expect to talk about it and do nothing about it," said Sonam.

Known for her candour, she feels that in the battle of the ballot, there is no place for "dignity".
"Being extremely honest, I want to be optimistic about it (politics), but I am going to be realistic about it. I think changes will come very slowly. I hate to be not diplomatic, but that's what it is. That's how our country is working right now," she said.
"Who do we vote for? Who do we speak to? It's become a circus. It's obnoxious. The kind of fight that is happening in the political arena, I think it's dirty... there is no dignity left to it," said the actress.
A staggering 100 million first-time voters would be casting their ballot in the April-May polls, whose results would be declared May 16.
In the last few years crime against women has been on the rise and voters are hoping for a constructive change in this regard.
"Forget women, looking at the larger picture, if this is how they are going to fight, it's mud-slinging and it's extremely immature. It is like high school election. It's very silly," she said.
However, she feels "if more people will vote, may be slowly and steadily there will be a change".
In terms of equality, actresses are not on a par with their male counterparts when it comes to remuneration in showbiz.
"Things for actresses have not changed. To be very honest, people are trying, everybody is trying and that's the best thing," said the actress, who comes from an affluent film family.
She agrees that the remuneration bar should be upped, but feels that she is not the right person to talk about it.
"Like I said, we need to do it. It's easy for me to make these choices because I have got a comfortable background. So I am going to be the last person to be judgmental about anybody.
"I am not even trying to be modest about it. There are people who can do it. Those who are strong in this industry - like successful girls right now - Deepika Padukone, Anushka Sharma, Sonakshi Sinha - they can voice their opinion. I have a long way to go," she said.
However, she pointed out that filmmaking is a business and remuneration is directly linked to box-office profits.
"At the end of the day, the film industry is a business. If we are not going to make that kind of money for them (the filmmakers), they are not going to pay us that kind of money."
Is the profit margin shared with actors and actresses?
"You get the profit margin if you are the lead of the film and if the film is being sold on your name, then you do get it. It's that's up to you and your lawyers, agents, etc. So you can be smart about it."

Inside the Zee awards 2014

The long-winded show was packed with enough action, drama and laughs to keep everyone there until 4am

Mumbai: Bollywood actress Deepika Padukone had a wish: “I hope this awards show doesn’t go on for five hours. I barely had three hours of sleep.” She spoke too soon. Saturday’s Zee Cine Awards 2014 ran on into the early hours. But did she have fun? Oh yes, she and 400-plus guests gathered at Mumbai’s Film City will vouch that the Zee Awards 2014 were as entertaining and as long as an epic Bollywood romance — a happier version of Devdas, if you will.
And the stars who made it all happen went beyond a crutch-ridden Shah Rukh Khan, who introduced the Best Film nominees with a skit. There was action hero Akshay Kumar, Lootera star Sonakshi Sinha, the ever-effusive Ranveer Singh and self-deprecating hosts Abhishek Bachchan and Riteish Deshmukh to keep the show rolling.
As Bachchan put it: “We must be really good at this if people are still glued to their seats at 3am”. While they were good, there was another reason why people stuck it out. Saving the best for last was Kumar. Making an entry on a motorbike at top speed, he zipped in from a ramp built on the side amongst the audience and onto the stage. And as soon as he reached the stage, he jumped off the bike, which spun out of control. There was a minor explosion and a dazzling display of pyrotechnics. His perfectly executed action gig was like a much-needed caffeine shot (come on, it was 3.30am, Sunday) and was a relief from the usual romantic song-dance numbers at award ceremonies.
Clad in a military uniform, Kumar was in top form as he danced to his hits, including Party All Night. If that didn’t snap you awake, the artificial rain that poured down would have done the job. There was water everywhere, but Kumar forged ahead and moved to the beat with drum rolls and all. He’s no expert dancer like Shahid Kapoor, but what he lacked in grace he made up for by playing to his macho title. In the end, he was snapped up by a wire as fireworks strapped to his back went off.
Another surprise was Sonakshi Sinha’s stage act, as the newly slim actress danced to Gandi Baat and Sari Ka Fall Sa (from R … Rajkumar) with impressive agility (clearly, the time spent with choreographer and R … Rajkumar director Prabhu Deva has done her a world of good). But when it came to mastering the art of multiple dress changes, the award goes to Goliyon Ki Rasleela Ram-Leela star Ranveer Singh. That man can move and change jackets in a snap. His act was an ode to the stars who shaped Bollywood over the last few decades. Be it Amitabh Bachchan’s Chumma Chumma De De or Shah Rukh Khan’s Yeh Kaali Kaali Aankhen or Hrithik Roshan’s Ek Pal Ka Jeena, Singh proved that he possessed the charisma to pull off songs that he did not make popular. (He showed his sporting side later in the evening when he danced in the audience as Kumar was on stage)
But the glue that held the evening together was the notoriously charming Shah Rukh Khan. Despite his recent leg injury, he forged ahead like a soldier, introducing films that made it to the Best Film nominations list. While he praised each, from Ranbir Kapoor’s Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani to his own Chennai Express, it was his comic skit for Aashiqui 2 that got thunderous applause. Khan took a strand about unconditional love and dedicated the romantic song Tum Hi Ho to all domestic helpers out there. His act, with dancers holding brooms and mops, could be deemed derogatory but Khan’s earnest appreciation of unskilled labour just brought a smile to most faces at ZCA. His spoof on Chennai Express was also a big hit. We loved the bit where Deepika Padukone was carried (yes, carried) on stage by stand-up comedian Bharti Singh. It was a scene inspired from Chennai Express but to see the rotund Bharti successfully lift the statuesque actress (who was squealing with fear and delight) up the steps was riveting. While the show rambled on, it was good to see Bachchan Jr indulge in a good dose of ribbing about its meandering nature. “Don’t worry guys, we just have about four hours to go,” said Bachchan at 2am. If that wasn’t enough: “A big shout to my dear friend Ali Morani who’s seated in the front row. Guys if you are looking for someone to discuss the length of the show, he’s your man.” Funnily enough, while Chetan Bhagat extolled the virtues of good story being the key to a brilliant film, Bachchan retorted: ‘look at us, we are living proof that you don’t need a screenplay to get people glued to their seats for more than three hours.” These well-timed jibes helped in making us last through a long-winded, but enjoyable show.
