No, Haider isn't 'fair' but that is not a reason to boycott it

Let us count our blessings.
#BoycottHaider could easily have been #BanHaider or #PicketHaider or #RansackMovieTheatresShowingHaider.
We live in a country where the right to be offended has become a fundamental right. Taking offence is a competitive sport in this country. Whether it’s books, paintings, films, we are trigger-happy about demanding bans at the drop of a hat.
It could be Muslim organizations calling for a ban on Kamal Haasan’s Vishwaroopam because they don’t like how their community has been depicted. Or it could be a political party like Congress up in arms about the Punjabi film Kaum de Heere saying it glorified Indira Gandhi’s assassins. Hindu groups attacked Deepa Mehta when she tried to film Water in Varanasi and that film had to be secretly made years later, under a different name, in Sri Lanka. Even a group of barbers got into the act protesting against the Bollywood film Billu Barber which was eventually released as just Billu says Soutik Biswas of the BBC.
A film about the politics of Kashmir is ripe for triggering bans. It’s a hot-button topic riddled with all kinds of tripwires. There is no way a film about Kashmir, even if it never ventures beyond shikaras on the Dal Lake, can avoid offending someone or the other. But it’s an enormous relief that those offended by Haider (many of whom as usual have not seen it) have at least chosen a democratic and legitimate form of dissent.
As a judge told the All India Human Rights and Social Justice Front when it called for a ban on Aamir Khan’s PK, if you do not like a film you can choose not to watch it. It does not mean you can take away other people’s right to watch it.

Haider-380

But having said that it’s also rather pointless to call for a boycott of a film that's unabashedly political for being unabashedly political. “Political cinema has never been known for its 'neutrality' (that defeats the purpose of making a political film). Perhaps, it is time for us to grow up and take it on the chin - however uncomfortable that makes us,” observes Shobhaa De on NDTV.com.
There is no reason even a documentary, let alone a feature film, must be neutral. The story of the Kashmiri Pandits is a legitimate story that needs its own chronicler. It’s not a burden that every film about Kashmir must carry in the interests of being fair.
Hamlet is not a “fair” play that gives equal airtime to all the factions in Denmark. There is no reason Haider should be scrupulously “fair” either when it comes to Kashmir. It just needs to be true to its characters. It is not meant to be a dispassionate account of what the army is doing in Kashmir. But it needs to feel authentic in its depiction of what its characters’ perception of the army is and that can be different from the ground reality.
Anyway you have to be exceptionally naïve to think an army occupying an area at a time of enormous militancy is only engaged in humanitarian work and never steps outside the bounds of the rule book. The film, in fact, perhaps conscious of charges of bias ends with a slide saluting the army for its humanitarian work during the recent floods.
But even Northern Army Commander Lt. Gen D S Hooda who led that effort tells Ajaz Ashraf of Firstpost that “(t)he relationship between the Army and the people of Kashmir, and the past history cannot be swept away by the floods and media reporting of this disaster. It is something that we have to mutually work on to earn each other’s respect.”
A film like Haider would be patently false if it pretended that history did not exist. The scene where the villagers line up with their IDs in front of a masked officer who indicates with just a flick of his eyes who is dismissed and who is hauled off into detention and perhaps disappearance is more chilling in its humiliation and terror than the much talked-about torture scenes. When Shahid Kapur’s Haider sings Sare jahaan se achha in the town square it is suffused with bitter irony.
Yet the film also pointedly opens with a slide that says Srinagar India as opposed to Srinagar, Kashmir. Perhaps that is why Pakistan is mulling a ban on the film.
It is to Vishal Bhardwaj and Basharat Peer’s credit that they offer some nuance even to the characters who would conventionally be villains in a mainstream Hindi film context. Pervez Lone who plays the Polonius character might be the police superintendent ordering Haider be taken away and killed but he’s also shown as a loving father who tries to protect his daughter, even from her hot-headed brother.
There is no doubt what the film’s characters think about AFSPA but that does not automatically make the film anti-Indian. AFSPA cannot be sugar coated. If there’s a moment the film tries carefully to walk a fine line, it’s early in the film when Haider’s father, a surgeon, decides to operate on a militant and asked which side he is on, says he is on the side of zindagi (life). Ironically, he pays for it with his life proving that it’s almost impossible to stay above the fray when the divide is so bitter.
But even if he had not said that or the film had no lines about how inteqaam (revenge) only begets inteqaam and not azaadi, being one-sided is a weak argument for boycott.
That would have made Mani Ratnam’s Roja, where Pankaj Kapur played a terrorist leader in Kashmir, a perfect candidate for a boycott except it was one-sided and jingoistic from the other side. But the solution to a perception of one-sided is never a ban or even a boycott for that matter.
The solution is to tell more stories from more points of view. As an unnamed retired Army officer who served in Kashmir writes “More than the quality and the message of the movie, the fact that such a political movie can be made and released in this country is something we should be justifiably proud of. Let a thousand more Haiders bloom.”
If Haider is incendiary it’s not because it steps into the minefield of Kashmir’s insurgency and militancy. A film based on a play famous for the line “Something is rotten in the state of Denmark” cannot come out smelling like roses in Kashmir. Haider’s real daring is while the #BoycottHaider types are in a tizzy about the politics it sneaks into an area far more taboo (or should we say Tabu?) than militancy – suggesting an almost Oedipal closeness between Haider and his mother Ghazala. As the camera zooms in on Haider nuzzling Ghazala’s neck, it creates a genuine moment of real discomfort. Showing that requires, to paraphrase another line in the movie, more chutzpah than showing AFSPA.

Shahid Kapoor’s late-night date with Jacqueline Fernandez?

Shahid Kapoor took to the wheel of his fancy ride, while Jacqueline slipped into the backseat of her own car.
Shahid Kapoor took to the wheel of his fancy ride, while Jacqueline slipped into the backseat of her own car.

Bollywood heartthrob Shahid Kapoor, who has been rumoured to have been dating Sonakshi Sinha for the past few months, surprised us when he was spotted leaving a high-end restaurant in Mumbai recently along with actress Jacqueline Fernandez.
According to onlookers, Shahid and Jacqueline were at the restaurant till 1:30 am. The actor then took to the wheel of his fancy ride, while Jacqueline slipped into the backseat of her own car.
A few weeks after ‘R…Rajkumar’ hit theatres, stories of Sonakshi and Shahid getting close were doing the rounds. It was said that the duo met on the sets of the action flick and hit it off immediately, and reportedly had a blast during the film’s promotions.
The rumoured love birds also made an appearance together on Karan Johar’s controversial chat show, ‘Koffee With Karan’ and seemed more than just comfortable in each other’s presence.
When Karan Johar brought up the topic of Sonakshi Sinha’s weight, Shahid Kapoor was quick to defend the actress saying she was curvy. Another interesting factor we just have to bring up is that, Shahid Kapoor has previously graced Karan’s couch with his girlfriends at the time, Kareena Kapoor (the first time) and Priyanka Chopra (the second time), who he was also believed to be dating. His special appearance with Sonakshi was bound to mean something or could it have just been a coincidence?
Shahid Kapoor has had a somewhat colourful past when it comes to his linkups and romances. The actor’s relationship with actress Kareena Kapoor received a lot of media attention. However, their breakup made headlines, though the duo chose not to speak publicly about when went wrong.
He was later also linked to Vidya Balan. However, those rumours eventually fizzled out.
Post ‘Kaminey’, Shahid Kapoor was also said to be dating Priyanka Chopra, who lived in the same building as the actor. The couple never admitted to any romantic involvement during the linkup. But, both maintain they are ‘good friends’ post the breakup.
Well, we hope the actor has finally found love in Sri Lankan beauty Jacqueline.

Shraddha, Sidharth Malhotra sizzle in the 1st look of ‘Ek Villian

Starring newcomers Sidharth Malhotra and Shraddha Kapoor, the first look from `Ek Villian` has been released, Zee News reports.
Kapoor, who left a indelible mark with her first movie in `Aashiqui 2`, is working with Mohit Suri again in this multi starrer. The action-romance, also stars some of the big names from the industry in grey characters. Riteish Deshmukh and Amrita Puri are also reportedly playing negative roles in the film.
The first look has Sidharth (as Guru) portray a darker shade, and he looks ruggedly handsome and holds Shraddha (as Ayesha) in a passionate embrace.

Abhishek Bachchan recently posted on his official Twitter handle about the first look of the poster: Like the 1st look of Villian. Well done @EkmainaurEktu7 and my blue brother @amul_mohan
Kapoor also stars in the upcoming drama being directed by Vishal Bharadwaj, `Haider`, opposite Shahid Kapoor. With a lot of projects in her kitty, the actress seems to be going places. Sidharth too has done well with `Hasee to Phasee`, with critics and audiences enjoying his performance equally.
`Ek Villian` would be a project to look out for, with the promise of good performances from Sidharth and Shraddha and a promising star cast in darker shades.

Inside the Zee awards 2014

The long-winded show was packed with enough action, drama and laughs to keep everyone there until 4am

Mumbai: Bollywood actress Deepika Padukone had a wish: “I hope this awards show doesn’t go on for five hours. I barely had three hours of sleep.” She spoke too soon. Saturday’s Zee Cine Awards 2014 ran on into the early hours. But did she have fun? Oh yes, she and 400-plus guests gathered at Mumbai’s Film City will vouch that the Zee Awards 2014 were as entertaining and as long as an epic Bollywood romance — a happier version of Devdas, if you will.
And the stars who made it all happen went beyond a crutch-ridden Shah Rukh Khan, who introduced the Best Film nominees with a skit. There was action hero Akshay Kumar, Lootera star Sonakshi Sinha, the ever-effusive Ranveer Singh and self-deprecating hosts Abhishek Bachchan and Riteish Deshmukh to keep the show rolling.
As Bachchan put it: “We must be really good at this if people are still glued to their seats at 3am”. While they were good, there was another reason why people stuck it out. Saving the best for last was Kumar. Making an entry on a motorbike at top speed, he zipped in from a ramp built on the side amongst the audience and onto the stage. And as soon as he reached the stage, he jumped off the bike, which spun out of control. There was a minor explosion and a dazzling display of pyrotechnics. His perfectly executed action gig was like a much-needed caffeine shot (come on, it was 3.30am, Sunday) and was a relief from the usual romantic song-dance numbers at award ceremonies.
Clad in a military uniform, Kumar was in top form as he danced to his hits, including Party All Night. If that didn’t snap you awake, the artificial rain that poured down would have done the job. There was water everywhere, but Kumar forged ahead and moved to the beat with drum rolls and all. He’s no expert dancer like Shahid Kapoor, but what he lacked in grace he made up for by playing to his macho title. In the end, he was snapped up by a wire as fireworks strapped to his back went off.
Another surprise was Sonakshi Sinha’s stage act, as the newly slim actress danced to Gandi Baat and Sari Ka Fall Sa (from R … Rajkumar) with impressive agility (clearly, the time spent with choreographer and R … Rajkumar director Prabhu Deva has done her a world of good). But when it came to mastering the art of multiple dress changes, the award goes to Goliyon Ki Rasleela Ram-Leela star Ranveer Singh. That man can move and change jackets in a snap. His act was an ode to the stars who shaped Bollywood over the last few decades. Be it Amitabh Bachchan’s Chumma Chumma De De or Shah Rukh Khan’s Yeh Kaali Kaali Aankhen or Hrithik Roshan’s Ek Pal Ka Jeena, Singh proved that he possessed the charisma to pull off songs that he did not make popular. (He showed his sporting side later in the evening when he danced in the audience as Kumar was on stage)
But the glue that held the evening together was the notoriously charming Shah Rukh Khan. Despite his recent leg injury, he forged ahead like a soldier, introducing films that made it to the Best Film nominations list. While he praised each, from Ranbir Kapoor’s Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani to his own Chennai Express, it was his comic skit for Aashiqui 2 that got thunderous applause. Khan took a strand about unconditional love and dedicated the romantic song Tum Hi Ho to all domestic helpers out there. His act, with dancers holding brooms and mops, could be deemed derogatory but Khan’s earnest appreciation of unskilled labour just brought a smile to most faces at ZCA. His spoof on Chennai Express was also a big hit. We loved the bit where Deepika Padukone was carried (yes, carried) on stage by stand-up comedian Bharti Singh. It was a scene inspired from Chennai Express but to see the rotund Bharti successfully lift the statuesque actress (who was squealing with fear and delight) up the steps was riveting. While the show rambled on, it was good to see Bachchan Jr indulge in a good dose of ribbing about its meandering nature. “Don’t worry guys, we just have about four hours to go,” said Bachchan at 2am. If that wasn’t enough: “A big shout to my dear friend Ali Morani who’s seated in the front row. Guys if you are looking for someone to discuss the length of the show, he’s your man.” Funnily enough, while Chetan Bhagat extolled the virtues of good story being the key to a brilliant film, Bachchan retorted: ‘look at us, we are living proof that you don’t need a screenplay to get people glued to their seats for more than three hours.” These well-timed jibes helped in making us last through a long-winded, but enjoyable show.

First Look: Shahid Kapoor’s Haider

Haider Pic 2 First Look: Shahid Kapoors Haider
One of the films that definitely made our list of movies to watch out for in 2014 is Shahid Kapoor’s Haider. Produced by Disney UTV Studios and produced and directed by Vishal Bhardwaj, the film is Bhardwaj’s adaption of Shakesperare’s Hamlet. This is Bhardwaj’s third ode to Shakespeare’s plays: the first being Macbeth in the amazing Maqbool, then his brilliant Omkara, which was based on Othello.

Creative Director Disney UTV Studio – Amar Butala says, “Disney UTV Studios’ previous association with Vishal Bhardwaj and Shahid Kapoor delivered the cult box office hit Kaminay. The audiences have long awaited the next installment from this team, and in Haider we believe the audiences will find the wait was well worth it. With an incredible ensemble of actors including Tabu, Shraddha Kapur and Kay Kay Menon, this Shakespearean interpretation set against the backdrop of militancy in Kashmir, has some remarkable performances and great music. We believe Haider will be a worthy successor to Maqbool and Omkara.”

Fans cannot wait to see Shahid take on the challenging and what many actors would say is the role of a lifetime be it Hamlet or Haider. Shahid is ‘nervous and excited’ about Haider we hear and is completely giving himself over to the creation of this character and the film. Not only in lines and manner but in form. In fact, he cannot run his hands through his hair with worry, because he now sports a buzz cut for the challenging role! Shahid Kapoor says, “I believe in the script and have completely surrendered to Vishal sir’s vision on my character and my look.”

Vishal Bhardwaj says, “It’s commendable the dedication with which Shahid has bitten into his role and its every aspect. And he is doing complete justice to Haider. ”

Check out Haider!

Shahid & Sonam's daddy talk

Sonam Kapoor gave Shahid some solid advice about working with one's father

When Sonam Kapoor joined Shahid Kapoor for the first reading of Pankaj Kapur’s Mausam, the actress blew her cheeks out and reportedly said, “You're working with your dad for the first time. Have ‘fun’.

"I have just finished Aisha for my father (Anil Kapoor) and I know how tough it is to please him. Now you’re getting into Mausam with your dad, you see how hard this film is going to be for you,” she told him.

And the same day, the two actors formed a pact. Since both of them knew that it is very hard to please a parent involved in a film, they decided to look out for each other during the shoot and make sure that neither suffers from any blues because having a parent around on a film set (especially in a creative capacity) can be slightly tricky.

Shahid says, “I truly understand what Sonam meant. Dad is very strict with me. And since I respect him tremendously meri toh bolti bandh hai.” They also truly understand what Hrithik Roshan must be going through when dad Rakesh Roshan is directing him.

Best time to release 'Milenge Milenge': Satish Kaushik

His film might be six years too late but director Satish Kaushik feels that this is the right time to release his long pending ''Milenge Milenge'', with Shahid Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor, who have since climbed the success ladder to become big time stars.
''Milenge Milenge''

"It is not a question of delay. Delays can't mar a film," said Kaushik. " 'Milenge Milenge' is the best picture for today because that time they (Shahid-Kareena) were not such big stars," Kaushik told IANS in a telephonic interview from Mumbai.

"Today they are very big stars. People want to see them together as a couple in a movie; the picture will get much more attention and value now," he added.

Shot entirely in Delhi, "Milenge Milenge", which has been in the making since 2004, is said to be a remake of the Hollywood movie "Serendipity". Produced by Boney Kapoor, it will see the light of day July 9.

What caused the delay?
"It got delayed due to certain reasons, but that doesn't matter. A good film is always a good film and a good story is always a good story... Boney is leaving no stone unturned to promote this film in every which way," said Kaushik.

Asked if the delay was due to Shahid-Kareena reportedly playing truant after their split, he said: "It has not happened due to what has been reported in the press. Both Shahid and Kareena have been professionals in terms of completing the film. But there were some unforeseen circumstances which could not be avoided."

What about reports of Kareena delaying the photo shoot and work on promotional video for the movie?

"She has already completed her photo shoot (May 30)... Her dates were totally tied up earlier. She will now shoot for the video very soon for which Shahid has already shot," said Kaushik, chosen as the director of the month by UTV World Movies for its "50 movies to see before you die" segment.

Kaushik is positive about the box office prospects of the romantic comedy."The film is about destiny and destiny is going to take this film across. It is looking very fresh. I am doing its background music now and it has turned out to be very well," he said.
"The performances of both Shahid and Kareena and their on screen chemistry is really beautiful. Though it is little delayed, it will definitely make a mark. It is a very sweet romantic comedy.

" The film is about a couple in love who get separated and how destiny brings them together. Shahid-Kareena were a great off screen couple, but they parted ways. 'Milenge Milenge' is an apt title for this pair, despite the fact that they are very happy in their own space now."

Both the actors look very different now from six years ago. But Kaushik is not worried. "The film was completed in one go in 2005-06; so there is no change of looks for the actors in scene to scene."

The promotional song of the movie "Sab kuch khatam ho kar bhi" penned by Sameer should have obvious resonance for the one-time couple.

"We were thinking of a promotional song and this one was apt because it goes with the story. Later on  we thought that this one should also be the promotional video for the movie," said the director.

Kareena gives Shahid a miss, shoots solo

Kareena gives Shahid a miss, shoots solo

Kareena Kapoor completed a photo shoot for Boney Kapoor's Milenge Milenge at Mehboob Studios over the weekend.

Her co-star Shahid Kapoor had already completed his part earlier (for reasons obvious!). The long delayed film is slated for a July 9 release.

Meanwhile...
The promos of the Bebo- Shahid starrer Milenge Milenge scream 'They are back together!' And add to this Himesh Reshammiya singing away Kuch To Baki Hai as the two offscreen ex-flames cosy up in the movie's track!

Both the stars must be squirming looking at this!

Punjabi meal for dad:Shahid

Shahid Kapoor treated his dad Pankaj Kapur to a special Punjabi meal on his birthday in Edinburgh

Shahid Kapoor and his dad Pankaj Kapur landed in Edinburgh last week to shoot for the versatile actor's much awaited directorial debut Mausam. The lead actress Sonam Kapoor has also joined the crew recently.

Shahid surely knows that the way to his father's heart is through his stomach. On his dad's birthday, Shahid managed to spring a culinary surprise for him. A source close to Shahid informs, "It was Pankaj Kapur's birthday on May 29. Shahid, who looks up to his dad, wanted to make his birthday really special. Since he knows that the senior Kapoor gorges on Punjabi food, especially rajma chawal and pakodas, he decided to treat him to an authentic Punjabi meal.

Though it's not easy to find a good Indian chef in Edinburgh, the doting son managed to find one. He arranged a surprise lunch at a restaurant with the help of a chef named Shinde and, of course, the highlight of the menu was his dad's favourite rajma chawal and pakodas."

The source adds, "Shahid, who didn't want to take any chances, personally supervised the preparation of the meal and gave the exact recipe of rajma to the chef, just the way the senior Kapur likes it, without cardamom. His effort paid off because Pankajji loved it."

The producer Sheetal Talwar confirms, "Yes, Shahid threw a party for his dad on his birthday. Pankajji was very pleasantly surprised because it's a task to find good Punjabi food in a foreign country but Shahid did it. Even Supriya Pathak, who is here, loved it."

Pankaj Kapoor designs special dance track for Shahid

Pankaj Kapoor

Shahid Kapoor is undoubtedly one of the best dancers in Bollywood and his aesthetically-inclined dad Pankaj Kapoor is reportedly putting together a specially-designed dance track in "Mausam".

"We don't want to disappoint Shahid's target audience, the young fans. So yes, Shahid will dance after all," said the film's producer Sheetal Talwar.

A source added: "There was closed-door meeting between the producers, the director and Shahid. It was unanimously decided that there would be a very unique song-and-dance. It was felt that 'Mausam' was too expensive a project to make it seem even slightly experimental in flavour."

Shahid's buddy Ahmed Khan is busy trying to accommodate the dance into his crammed diary.

According to a source very close to the project, Pankaj had initially planned an exclusive heavily melody-based music score based only on ragas for his directorial debut.

In fact, Pritam Chakraborty, who is doing the music score in "Mausam", has just recorded a raga-based love melody in the voice of Rashid Khan.

"It was meant to be only a small music piece. But when Pankaj-ji heard the tune, he wanted it as a full-fledged song," he said.

He admits the music in "Mausam" would be heavily melodious in the tradition of the great love stories down the ages from "Bobby" to "Love Story" to "Ek Duuje Ke Liye" to "Saawariya".

Shahid is still smitten by Priyanka Chopra

Shahid is still smitten by Priyanka Chopra

Shahid Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra sizzled on screen as a cute pair in Vishal Bhardwaj's hit movie Kaminey and then there were rumors about them being lovebirds off screen as well. Though, they never confirmed anything about their romantic liaisons, the real life chemistry was obvious.

The rumors of their link up surfaced, when they were shooting for Kaminey, then it was almost confirmed when, Shahid moved in to Priyanka's building.

Though both of them have maintained the “we are just friends” façade, Shahid's step to be closer to her proved otherwise. In time, the relationship and the rumors died with the occasional “are they both back together?”

So, the latest is that, Shahid had been on a lookout for a bigger apartment, he has apparently put it on hold, because he doesn't want to part ways with Priyanka.

If friendship was the case, then Priyanka and Shahid seem to be BFF's. Let's hope that with time this “deep” friendship turns into a relationship, and hopefully they will accept it and give the gossipmongers something to chat about.

Milenge Milenge First look and trailer: Will Shahid Kareena Milenge

Will Shahid and Kareena Milenge Milenge? Well we are not discussing the fate of this hot couple that got separated their ways almost 2 years back, Milenge Milenge is the title of their latest movie produced by Boney Kapoor. The film has been a topic of discussion amidst the media and film fraternity as it is the first film after the hottest couple of Bollywood called for a break-up. Shahid and Kareena will be seen together in this film whose released was earlier postponed due to many reasons. Kareena does not look her Size zero at all and looks more chubby whereas Shahid looks more chocolate boyish than what he looks today.

Milenge Milenge also faced many dubbing and promotional hassles with the lead pair reluctant to promote it together owing their breakup. There were controversies attached to the film with Kareena wanting to promote the movie separately of Shahid and sometimes Shahid refusing to shoot the promo with Kareena. But recently Shahid agreed to promote the film with her ex-girlfriend Kareena and said in an interview, “As and when Boneyji will need me I will promote the film…. As and when things will be required I’ll try my best.”
Milenge Milenge is expected to hit the screens on June 25, 2010. This romantic comedy is mostly shot in Dubai and New Delhi and is directed by Satish Kaushik. But whatever the film holds for its audience, the biggest USP of the film is the couple Shahid and Kareena and the audience would love to see them together post their break –up. The couple was last seen together in Jab We Met for which both the actors won accolade for their acting talent.

Shahid Kapoor reluctant to move in bigger apartment because of Priyanka?

According to latest tabloids reports, Bollywood actor Shahid Kapoor, who is looking to buy a bigger apartment for some time now, is having second thoughts as he does not want to move away from his alleged girlfriend actress Priyanka Chopra, who stays in the same building.

According to latest tabloids reports, Bollywood actor Shahid Kapoor, who is looking to buy a bigger apartment for some time now, is having second thoughts as he does not want to move away from his alleged girlfriend actress Priyanka Chopra, who stays in the same building.
“I'm looking out for a six to seven bedroom apartment because I want to make a gymnasium at home. Also I need a couple of guest bedrooms, etc. Ideally I like a sea-facing apartment just like my current one, but that is very hard to find. So I'm biding my time," confirmed Shahid.
As per sources, Priyanka is not the only reason for Shahid’s reluctance to move, other reason is his father, who too lives in the same building and actor says that he feels secure with the knowledge that his father stays just a yelling distance away.
Priyanka not the reason for delay in moving to new apartment---Shahid
Shahid has rubbished rumors that he’s reluctant to buy another apartment in another location because he does not want to stay far away from Priyanka Chopra.

“Listen for the first year and a half after she moved into this building I didn't bump into Priyanka even once. So it is silly to assume that I don't want to give up this house because she is my neighbor,” said Shahid.
Reports of Shahid and Priyanka’s romance started floating around when they were filming for the film 'Kaminey'.
Though, none of them ever admitted publicly anything about their relationship status and always maintained that they are "just good friends".
Shahid wants to keep his private life away from media
Shahid Kapoor, who has been linked to almost everyone of his female co-stars since his break up with Kareena Kapoor, said that his personal life has never been up for discussion in media and he would like to keep it that way.

"Look there is few things that I will never discuss in print. And one of that is--what I do in my personal life. Priyanka and I are neighbors and we're friends. Let's leave it at that," said the talented actor.

It seems Shahid Kapoor is too emotional at times. So much that he cannot decide on buying a new property just because he doesn't want to part ways with his best pal -Priyanka Chopra who is his neighbour too.

According to latest reports, Shahid Kapoor wants to buy a bigger apartment but is delaying the move since hes worried about parting ways with his best buddy Priyanka Chopra. So, purely for this reason, Shahid has put the plans of buying a new property on hold.

Well, looks like Shahid's friendship with Priyanka is actually stronger than what we thought. So, let's see which new level it touches with the passage of time.

Kareena not playing truant for Milenge Milenge promos

By Indo-Asian News Service

The makers of Milenge Milenge have denied reports that actress Kareena Kapoor is playing truant with producer Boney Kapoor in doling out shooting dates for the promotional video and publicity shoot of the film.

Milenge Milenge, which is believed to be a remake of "Serendipity", is being produced by Boney Kapoor and directed by Satish Kaushik, under the banner of SK Films.

SK Films insists that the stories floating around the film are baseless and untrue.

"Though the film has been in the making for some time now, the delay has been due to certain unforeseen factors and not because of any hesitation or reluctance from the actors to complete the film," said an official statement here Friday.

"Kareena Kapoor and Shahid Kapoor inspite of their busy schedules have completed the entire dubbing of the film in time for the release and have given appropriate time for the promotional campaign," it added.

"Shahid has completed his portion for the promotional music video and Kareena will be doing hers shortly as she was busy shooting in Goa."

Milenge Milenge is in making since 2004 and is now slated to release on July 9. The first teasers of the film have already hit the television screens.

By Renuka Vyavahare/INDIATIMES MOVIES

The biggest of Bollywood is addicted to Twitter these days. From Amitabh Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan to Shahid Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra... all are busy Twitting! Although giving a tough competition to these filmy celebs is India’s demi god Sachin Tendulkar!

Sachin too is on the social networking site and too is garnering maximum number of followers of late. Amitabh Bachchan is just a week old on Twitter and already has over a lakh followers already. Thus, when a scribe asked Abhishek as to who is the god of Twitter – Sachin or Amitabh, Abhishek smartly replied, “We Hindus have many gods and pa (Amitabh Bachchan) and sachin are two of them.”

Both Amitabh and Sahin are legends in their own right and that was well said Abhishek...

Shahid Kapoor: ‘Mausam’, Seasons of the Sun!

Shahid Kapoor, who is at present busy with his Father’s directorial debut venture, ‘Mausam’, has got his beard shaved off.
Reportedly, this bearded look was needed for a certain shot that was to be taken inScotland. Then, his dad had wanted him to be in a different look. The actor, who was confused due to his dad’s constant change of mind, was initially not able to understand what his dad wanted.
Then, as the shooting schedule went on, Shahid went on to understand that he was supposed to sport four different looks, signifying the four seasons of the Sun. Thus, for the winter, he would have a sad look, for the spring; he would have a vibrant look, etc.
This look projection will be in sync with his love for Sonam Kapoor, who is the female lead in the film. However, sources reveal that Sonam, is also supposed to sport four looks in the film. But, she has not tried it yet as she is out of town, shooting for the Anees Bazmi film ‘Thank You’.
According to insiders, the film is going to be a real romantically charged one, with a lot of emotional elements thrown in each scene. We just can’t wait to see Shahid in this serious emotional drama, after his carefree  attitude in ‘Kaaminey’,and Badmaash Company’.

Shahid finally enjoys a success with BC

Shahid Kapoor
At the box office, Badmaash Company has managed to take an opening which is better than what one would have expected. While one was looking at a 50%-60% start, there was a pleasant surprise in store as collections were a little more than 60% all over. Considering the fact that there was a perception being built around Shahid Kapoor, courtesy his crop of films after Kaminey, several in the industry believed that Badmaash Company would take a hit because of that. However, such perceptions were completely misplaced because except for Chance Pe Dance which was a genuine flop for Shahid, the low performance of Paathshaala or Dil Bole Hadippa couldn't be attribuited to him.

This was obvious in the way Badmaash Company opened as youngsters were more than glad to give this Parmeet Sethi directed caper a dekko. In multiplexes, the film saw quite some impressive footfalls, hence ensuring second best opening ever for Shahid Kapoor after Kaminey. Though the film remained stable throughout the weekend, the fact remains that the reviews have been mixed. While they have stayed on to be average at most quarters, there are also a few scathing comments that have come from critics. However, the good news is that though the word of mouth from audience may not have been fantabulous, it is not out rightly bad either.

If the first half of the film is an absolute riot with several thrilling and rib tickling moments, the second half is an absolute predictable affair with dramatic moments turning out to be mundane and real drag. This is why one feels that Badmaash Company would have been a much enjoyable experience had Parmeet Sethi set out to make an out and out unpretentious con movie which stuck to one single theme.

As of now, the film is on pretty safe grounds and is en route to be a definite earner. With this week seeing no opposition whatsoever, Badmaash Company should manage a good run overall and boast of the kind of collections (in the range of 30 crores) that Vivah and Jab We Met had enjoyed.

On the other hand It's a Wonderful Afterlife (as well as it's Hindi version Hai Marjawani) opened terribly all over and as things stand today, it would hardly be playing in the second week. Let aside being rejected by the audience, this Gurindher Chadha film was hated by a large section of media due to the 'yuck' element it came with. What else can explain the relevance of four ghosts hanging out with you in the living room, garden, investigation office, date nights and practically everywhere else? And whoever thought that it was funny to have intestines hanging out from a body, a rolling pin stuck in head, a naan stuffed on to someone's face and a bunch of kebabs stuck to neck pronto needs to make a visit to the psychiatrist!

No wonder, the writing was clear on the wall as after a miserable 10%-20% opening, the film never recovered enough. The reviews too were outright negative, hence proving to be a final nail on the coffin. One wishes that this is the last one has seen from film makers who are trying to project India as what it really isn't.

Badmaash Company: Movie Review

Director: Parmeet Sethi
Cast: Shahid Kapoor, Anushka Sharma, Meiyang Chang, Vir Das
Rating: /photo.cms?msid=5902596
Readers' rating :

Imagine a crime caper sans any guns and gore. Not all films of the genre need to be dark and Badmaash Company is just that lighthearted change. The colleagues in this company use wits over weapons to win in the same way like director Parmeet Sethi employs cleverness over clichés to come up with engaging entertainment.

The story opens in mid 90s when an ordinary middleclass graduate Karan (Shahid Kapoor), who aspires to make it big in short time, devices a smart import business where they can evade custom duty and sell foreign goods at low prices to Indians yearning for imported items. With the help of his friends Chandu (Vir Das), Zing (Meiyang Chang) and Bulbul (Anushka Sharma) they find a way to beat the system and make it big. But when the import duty on foreign items is drastically cut down by the government, their flourishing Bangkok business flops.

Now they shift to US and continue their conning commerce until success gets into Karan’s head. Due to differences the company collapses with the partners in crime going their individual ways. As each of them renounce their wrongdoings, they come together in the climax to beat the system for one last time – but this time within legal limits.

Parmeet Sethi makes an impressive debut as a writer and directs the film with as much finesse and panache. Unlike Yash Raj’s earlier con flick Bunty aur Babli (to which this one was compared) where the hoodwinks were hurried, the conning here is very credibly and comprehensively crafted and doesn’t insult your intelligence. From the import duty scam to the housing loan fraud and the final swindle in stock market (also involving Michael Jackson), the deceptions are imaginative and interesting. The pace is swift enough not giving you time to mull over the treachery.

The director doesn’t waste time on independently working on the romance track as the focus is primarily on the con games. The sizzling natural chemistry between Shahid Kapoor and Anushka Sharma (refreshingly reinvented from her girl-next-door image ofRab Ne Bana Di Jodi to a cool, confident and come-hither look) makes things easier for him.

Not an out-and-out crime flick, the second half works towards the reconciliation of the characters. While this wasn’t really expected from the film esp. with its upbeat and unapologetic approach towards delinquency, Parmeet Sethi still saves the film from turning out to be melodramatic take on good v/s bad. He endorses righteousness without losing on the fun factor by incorporating a smart game plan in the climax.

Anupam Kher as Shahid Kapoor’s virtuous father who doesn’t agree with his son’s ideologies reminds of his submissive act from Khosla Ka Ghosla , more so with Kiran Juneja playing his wife. Parmeet deftly directs Shahid’s fallout sequences with all the three of his company colleagues. Shahid’s argument with Meiyang Chang and his confrontation with Vir Das at the bistro-bar are commendably acted and executed scenes. The fallout and reunion of friends reminds of the Rock On camaraderie. Also Chang’s casting is used to good effect. And this is the third film in a row after Housefulland Ajab Prem Ki Ghajab Kahani where an actor stammers when he is nervous. Thankfully this slapstick attribute isn’t exploited much in the film.

Pritam’s musical score isn’t something that you carry with you beyond the film. The title track is evidently derived from the theme track of Mission Impossible but goes well as a background piece. Cinematographer Sanjay Kapoor skillfully captures the flamboyance of Bangkok and US. The costume designs by Ameira Punvan and Mamta Anand are vibrant and trendy; esp. Anushka Sharma’s styling is hot and sexy. Ritesh Soni edits the film with fast-paced energy, never letting you lose your attention.

After dull and disappointing films like Chance Pe Dance and Paathshaala , Shahid Kapoor is back in good form delivering a powerful performance. He gets it correct in every scene exuding oodles of confidence. Anushka Sharma looks absolutely ravishing with a bare midriff and plunging necklines and continues to have the most electrifying smile. But she is surely more than mere gorgeous looks. With a lot of conviction, she perfectly balances the bold and beautiful act. Vir Das is hilarious in his high on testosterone act. Meiyang Chang never goes out of control despite playing a hardcore booze-buff. Both Das and Chang come up with strong supporting characters never getting overshadowed by the lead pair. Anupam Kher never goes wrong in his morally right father figure act. Pawan Malhotra and Jameel Khan are good in their parts.

Badmaash Company is a good entertainer. Worth a watch!
