AHMEDABAD: “I have never seen lions from such close range, not even in Serengeti, the African Safari,” Amitabh Bachchan remarked to his crew after the second day of shooting in the rain-soaked Gir forest in Junagadh on Wednesday.
These are the real “Babbar Sher” (majestic lions), he said impressed with the sightings of the beast while shooting near Kamleshwar dam. So ecstatic was he that he went again into the forest in the evening just to enjoy the rain and grab a few shots of the jungle in the new wet weather.
Forest officials said that he was sent into the forest in one open jeep with the cameraman. The second round of still and video shoots was in Parabia in Sasan, on Tuesday where he went as close as 25 feet, from the lions — a liberty permitted to the star who was shooting as brand ambassador for Gujarat.
Donning the same light blue shirt, cowboy hat and knee high shoes with pants tucked in, Bachchan ventured into the forest at 5.30 am amid chirping of birds, in the open jeep.
Sources said that Chief Minister Narendra Modi had informed the superstar about the possibility of a cyclone hitting the state. Secretary (tourism) Vipul Mittra spoke to Bachchan and got the shooting schedule advanced and it was over by 9 am.
Sources said that soon after he finished off his video shoot at Parabia, there were heavy rains in Junagadh and Sasan Gir.
