Meenakshi is far quirkier than Babli: Rani Mukherjee

Actress Rani Mukherjee, who is all set for th release of "Aiyyaa", says her character in the film is far more naughty than her previous avatar in 2005 hit "Bunty Aur Babli".

Rani, 34, said the romantic comedy has got many fun elements in it rather than the funny characters and they would be exposed in weeks leading to the release of the film.

"Meenakshi is a mad and whacko character which is many steps ahead in madness when compared to 'Babli'. I know that last time when people saw me like that, it was seven years ago. If they found that to be bubbly and naughty then watch me in 'Aiyyaa'.

"There is a song each that we plan to release every week so that audience has something new to know about the film. Other than the songs, there are also quite a few dialogue promos that have been finalised. They would add further flavour to the film," Rani said.

Directed by debutante Sachin Kundalkar, the film releases all over on October 12.

Rani made her debut with "Raja Ki Ayegi Baraat" in 1997 and became a hit with Karan Johar's "Kuch Kuch Hota Hai". Thereafter she starred in many films including "Black", "Hum Tum", "Veer-Zaara" among others.

The Bengali beauty says she is pretty much happy with the response that the promo of 'Aiyyaa' has garnered so far.

"When people tell you that they have been laughing continuously after watching the promo, you are bound to feel confident. I was kind of sure that people would be positive but what I am touched about is the way they are wording their reactions. That's humbling," she said.

Rani, who was last seen in political crime thriller "No one killed Jessica", said that she chose to do this light-hearted film because her next project "Taalash" will be a serious one.

"'Aiyyaa' came at just the right time and since I like comedies, everything just fitted in. This is a light hearted film with a sweet love story to tell," she said.

The film also stars Malayalam superstar Prithviraj Sukumaran.

Heroine won’t affect Barfi: Anurag Basu

It is the week that is now being called as the Clash of the Cousins.

Kareena and Ranbir Kapoor would lock horns at the cinemas near your home to bite off a larger piece of the box office collection. While Kareena's Heroine is reportedly being released in around 1500 screens, Ranbir's Barfi! has been having a ride of the time with impressive first week collection; even though the movie was released in only 600 screens.

In an exclusive conversation with TOI, the Anurag Basu couldn't hide his astonishment over the overwhelming response to Barfi!.

The director, at his honest best, shared that he didn't expect a grand response to Barfi! "I was not expecting such tremendous response. In fact, when we conceived the idea to make Barfi!, we thought to make it 'cost-effective' and we made in Rs. 35 crore. I am pleasantly surprised and humbled by the success," confessed the director.

Ranbir has been appreciated by the audience for mutely expressing his heart out. "Ranbir was the first and last choice for the film. He is effortless as an actor and was truly Barfii during the film. Before the shooting started I took Ranbir and Priyanka through workshops, but later we just did the shooting part, so if I say we worked hard, then I would be lying," chuckled Anurag.

Kareena Kapoor is leaving no stone unturned to make sure that her much-anticipated film Heroine rings the bell at the box office. So, will Heroine slow down the process for Barfi! which has already managed to cross Rs 50 crore mark? "I don't think Barfi! will be affected by Heroine. Both are different films and there are audience for all kinds of films," answered Anurag.

KING IS BACK! SRK all set for Chennai Express and Happy New Year

Joginder Tuteja, Bollywood Hungama
Shah Rukh Khan's Chennai Express and Happy New Year are pretty much on track. Of late there were some speculations around possibility of change in plans, considering the choc-o-block schedule of the superstar. However, those associated with his films confirm that everything is as per plans and there
related stories are no delays whatsoever.

"Shah Rukh has been constantly shooting for Yashji's film. He has been travelling from Ladakh to Kashmir. However, that was always on the cards and there is no change in schedule. Even though he is still shooting for his Diwali release, it won't make any difference to either Chennai Express or Happy New Year", informs an insider.

Given the fact that just a couple of months remain for his yet untitled film and it is expected that at least an entire month would go into it's promotion, one did wonder if Chennai Express, his immediate next film to go on floors, would be impacted.

"None whatsoever", says a source attached to the Rohit Shetty film, "The film was always meant to start in September end or October beginning. That's the way it stays."

Meanwhile Shah Rukh is also committed to Farah Khan's Happy New Year. Would Shah Rukh manage to start the film's shoot this year itself?

"Yes, we are definitely starting Happy New Year this year itself with a 5-6 days schedule in December. After the Christmas and New Year celebrations, we go full steam from January onwards", says Farah Khan.

Rohit Shetty too sent back a text stating that Chennai Express is all set to roll and would indeed begin on 27th September.

With all being well with his films, guess audience can well expect a Shah Rukh double bill in quick succession next year, just like it was with Ra. One and Don 2, which literally arrived back to back last year.

Emraan not ready to give up his 'serial kisser' image

Raaz 3: Emraan Hashmi not ready to give up his 'serial kisser' image
IANS
Known as Bollywood's serial kisser, Emraan Hashmi may have decided to do a family film but feels it would be foolish of him to alienate himself from the kind of cinema he is known for doing.

After doing off-beat film "Shanghai", Emraan returns to his original avatar of a lover boy with " Raaz 3", where he will romance Bipasha Basu and Esha Gupta.

When asked about revisiting his image, he said: "We have upped the stakes. There is normally one heroine, but here there are two. The sinful experiences on screen have increased," the 33-year-old said in an interview.

"I have a core constituency, an audience who want me to do such films. Every actor has an image and you would be a fool to let go of that. Yes, you can occasionally do other films but if you let go of your core strength then the relatability drops.

"Within that realm you should try other genres. Like I do 'Raaz', I also did 'Shanghai' and it received critical acclaim. Of course, this is my core strength and I want to do such films and 'Raaz 3' is a film which brings all those strengths together," he added.

Meanwhile, Emraan is not the one to be enamoured by the Rs.100 crore figure.

He said: "As a performer I want to maintain a consistent run rate at the box office. If I am Rs.50 crore actor, I would want each of my films to do at least that much business. What normally happens is there are actors whose one film opens to Rs.100 crore and the second at Rs.5 crore... I would rather be the guy who does every film that generates a consistent run rate, than the guy who is sometimes here and then down."

Emraan is currently busy promoting "Raaz 3" that releases Friday. His other upcoming projects include "Ghanchakkar", a romantic comedy, " Ek Thi Daayan" and " Unglee".

But for now, he is just looking forward to taking a break and celebrating his victory with his friends. In the near future, the 22-year-old will also shift base to Mumbai from Amritsar to pursue a career as a playback singer. Ask him if he is worried about getting forgotten, like most winners on the show in the past have, and he says, “Abhijeet Sawant is very popular and has many projects in hand. After Indian Idol, you have to chart your career carefully. Winning is not the end of the road. I will have to utilise this victory and make a place for myself in the industry.”

Kareena Kapoor to promote Heroine in a cruise

Kavita Awaasthi and Dibyojyoti Baksi, Hindustan Times

It looks like producers UTV are going the whole hog to promote the Kareena-starrer, Heroine. The production house has organised a special interaction with the media on board a cruise ship in Dubai. And that’s not all, apparently, Kareena will make a filmi entry at the event, by landing in a
seaplane.

“We want to match the vibe and the style of the promotion with the glitz and glamour of the film itself. We have always set a benchmark with our overseas romotions,” insists Amrita Pandey, executive director, syndication, international distribution and media distribution, studios, Disney UTV.

Talking about the event and her grand entry, an excited Kareena tells us that the stunt is to mimic the dramatic life of a star, just like her role in the film: “This is truly original and creative, and I am glad I can be a part of it,” she says.

In addition to this, Madhur Bhandarkar has yet another event planned for the actor. Kareena will celebrate her birthday on September 21 with her fans. She will watch the film and cut cakes in single-screen theatres in the city as Heroine releases on the same day. “We will have a blast on Kareena’s birthday as she will be with people who have given her so much love,” says Bhandarkar.

Kareena seems to share the same sentiment saying, “Madhur’s idea is to have me cut birthday cakes at theatres with the masses. I am excited and looking forward to it. This will be a memorable birthday.”

EXPOSED: Sherlyn Chopra And The ‘Dirty’ Side Of Bollywood

Simran Chopra
Sherlyn Chopra has found an admirer from inside Bollywood.
Sherlyn Chopra has found an admirer from inside Bollywood.

Sherlyn Chopra first shocked the nation with her Playboy stint – being the prime subject for all ‘sleaze’ hunting journalists, who do nothing but copy and paste tweets into articles with a bit of additional ‘masala’, packed with a raunchy photo – and voila! A great ‘sensational’ story is done!

But well, there’s always an other side. Behind the closed doors, dirty secrets live – and nobody wants them to come out. But a leading Bollywood actress called us and spoke to us, on condition of anonymity. She happened to come across the ‘now removed’ objectionable photos Sherlyn uploaded on Saturday, revealing her private body parts.

“Holly Jesus Christ! I thought twitter was a safe place!” exclaimed the A-lister actress who’s now sitting on a pile of stardom with millions of fans not just in India, but around the globe.

The actress was touched by the confessions Sherlyn Chopra made in her tweets.

She says, “I read about her confessions. I don’t like the way every newspaper and TV channel carried it though. I honestly don’t exactly like what Sherlyn is doing, but I guess I understand what she means. Maybe she is lonely, she is upset, something is killing her from within, or maybe she had been an exhibitionist from day one, and technology is now helping her unleash that side. If you ask me, it takes a lot of courage to come out in public and say that I slept with people for money. Seriously, you need to have balls to do that!”

She continues, “But then, isn’t that the truth? Today I am here, I have experienced the taste of success. But even today what matters the most for my films to work is the hero with whom am working. While younger girls who are daughters of stars, producers get it all ready-made without struggle. It’s working because maybe audiences like star-kids and not genuinely hard-working and talented girls. I didn’t get such royal treatment in the beginning, and am sure Sherlyn too didn’t get it.”

She further reveals, “When I entered this industry, and when I was just one film old – my manager informed me about a super-rich diamond businessman from Surat, who offered me a huge amount for a 3 day stay with him in Europe. It was presented to me like a film-deal. If I agree, he would get the best director, a great hero and entirely fund the project. The money he was offering was something close to what I make now. Such things exist. Oh yes, they do, and in a very big way. I let go of that deal, because deep inside me, I was confident that I would make it no matter what – and here I am. If I had gone with him that time, I would have just done that one film. The movie was to be made without any real goal of actually making good cinema, and on top of that I don’t know what that man would have asked from me later on. But no matter what, even if I had slept with him I would have never been able to come out in public and confess it. Not even to make headlines.”

She goes on, “On Saturday night I read out few tweets of Sherlyn about her confessions sent by a friend on BBM. They touched me. Though the photos she uploaded were way below the mark, and obviously according to me twitter is not the right play to put up such photos. But her confessions made me think. It’s something you don’t want to see or think, yet you know something in her words is there which gives you a reflection of what’s inside that woman’s mind – it may look fake on the outside – but something is there.”

On Sherlyn’s Playboy future, she says, “It’s not at all a bad thing to get featured on Playboy, what’s bad about it? Just because you are born in India, you can’t go there? Who said that? It’s a conditioning with which an Indian girl grows up, they are taught to learn cooking and household chores, they are constantly told not to go out late in the nights, they are constantly prepared to become good wives – and indirectly Sherlyn has challenged this entire thought process. At-least in the porn industry what they do is all in front of all – it’s a professional thing – unlike what many actresses in Bollywood who are not daughters of a big man go thru everyday. Some end up making big, some live their entire life with that dream – and some like Sherlyn go this other way.”
And we asked, what about this other girl Poonam Pandey who too is often making it in news in the same way? The actress replied, “Oh! I don’t know much about what she tweets, except what I hear or may have read in newspapers – but one thing I feel is Poonam is just a wannabe – and as far as Sherlyn is concerned, I wouldn’t have spoken to you if what she wrote on twitter had not touched my heart. Yet, I don’t think what both these girls are doing on twitter is the right way. But who am I to tell them anything? It’s their life, their wish – and I think there always are lusty men outside who get the kick out of all that’s happening on twitter!”

Before hanging up the actress said, “I sincerely hope this girl Sherlyn finds what she’s looking for. But without harming herself.”

Is divine intervention Bipasha Basu's Raaz?

Puja Talwar
Bipasha Basu will visit Nizamuddin Dargah and the Bhairon Temple during her promotional tour to Delhi
Sometimes your best laid plans may turn against you. Singularity may become her but B-town's sexiest singleton Bipasha Basu has not had an enviable run at the box office of late. Not one to sit back and wallow, the gutsy lady is all set to lure you into the theatres with her latest film Raaz 3 and recreate the magic of the decade old franchise which starred her and former beau Dino Morea in 2002.

On a whirlwind promotional tour with co-stars Emraan Hashmi and Esha Gupta, the Bong bombshell makes her way from Dubai to Delhi, and the touchdown in the capital will see them make their way to the Nizamuddin Dargah and the Bhairon Temple in Kalkaji to seek some divine intervention for their impending release.

The actress, who has literally burnt the floor with her seductive Kya Raaz Hai, is hoping for long over-due hit.

The story of an insecure top actress who practises black magic on a fellow actress has Bipasha return to the Bhatt camp after years. Let's hope the industry's fittest girl can wield some box office muscle.
