Police warn Hrithik over loud music at mummy's birthday bash

Hrithik roshan
Bollywood actor Hrithik Roshan was warned against playing loud music at a late Sunday night party at his suburban Juhu residence.
Besides a host of celebrities from the tinsel town, police too made their appearance at the party, thrown to celebrate the birthday of Pinky Roshan, the actor's mother, and advised Hrithik not to play loud music.
Police reached Roshan's 8th floor apartment in Plazzo building in Juhu Vile Parle Development (JVPD) area at around 2.15 am after they received a telephone call complaining of loud music being played in actor's house. Police also found a large group of onlookers outside the building waiting to have a glimpse of celebrities -- Shah Rukh Khan, Saif Ali Khan, Kareena Kapoor, Amisha Patel and Shilpa Shetty.
"The first call was about a crowd outside the building. Ramachandra Mane, one of our officers, went there to check and found that a party was thrown by Roshans," Ramesh Sawant, Assistant Police Inspector of Juhu Police Station, said.
"There was another call complaining about loud music being played at Roshan's flat. We again inspected the place and spoke to Hrithik, who told us that they were winding up the party and the volume was low," said Sawant.
"However, we warned Hrithik not to play loud music and do anything that may inconvenience the people," he said, adding no complaint was registered as no violation of rules was established.

SRK made me nervous: Rituparna Sengupta

SRK made me nervous: Rituparna Sengupta

Bengali actress Rituparna Sengupta rues she hasn't got enough opportunities in Bollywood to showcase her talent despite being around for four years. But the National Award winner is excited about sharing screen space with none other than Shah Rukh Khan - in an ad film.

"Yes, Bollywood couldn't recognise my talent to the extent expected, " Rituparna, who forayed into the Hindi film industry with "Main, Meri Patni Aur Woh" in 2005, told on phone from Kolkata.

She was then seen in box office duds like "Unns - Love...Forever", "Gauri - The Unborn" and "Sirf - Life Looks Greener on the Other Side".

Rituparna believes she could have made a mark in the Hindi film industry if she had had the advantage of Bollywood lineage or contacts.

"It's difficult to make a mark in Bollywood if you do not belong to a film family or have proper contacts. Talent speaks when you get proper opportunity, " said Rituparna.

Her consolation is that she got a chance to share screen space with superstar Shah Rukh in an ad film for Sona Chandi Chyawanprash. She plays his wife in it.

"It was an amazing experience to work with Shah Rukh. He is cordial and the kind of person who values time, " she said.

Asked if she was nervous about working with the actor, she said: "I was very nervous when I got to know that I would be opposite Shah Rukh. I have a huge fan following, but personally I am a great fan of his."

Rituparna shared her first National Award for Best Actress with Bengali peer Indrani Haldar for her role in Rituparno Ghosh's "Dahan" in 1998 and recently won the same for Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury's Bengali film "Anuranan".

Right now she is looking forward to her forthcoming Hindi movie "Paroksh". It is Anup Das' directorial debut and the filmmaker has woven a captivating story around a surrogate mother.

"It's a very women-oriented film. The story is so contemporary that a woman can easily relate herself with the characters, " added Rituparna, who recently did the dialogue promotion for director David Dhawan's "Do Knot Disturb" along with actor Riteish Deshmukh.

"When David Dhawan approached me for it, I happily agreed. Riteish is a nice guy and a fantastic person to work with, " she said.

Asked if she had taken Hindi lessons during her initial days in Bollywood, she said: "No, I knew the language and I do my own dubbing."

Rituparna has also proved her talent as a playback singer in a song featured on her in "Anuranan".

"I sung it only to sync sound as my director said he would get it professionally sung later. But he liked it so much that he kept it as it is. Thus I made my debut as a playback singer, " said Rituparna.

The actress has finished shooting for two more Hindi films - Ajay Varma's "S.R.K" and Faisal Saif's "Osama". She will also be seen in Priyadarshan's Hindi version of Iranian film "Children of Heaven".

I had to lose several kilos for London Dreams: Brinda Parekh

I had to lose several kilos for London Dreams: Brinda Parekh
A name of mighty weight down in the South Brinda Parekh is now at her heels to make a mark in Bollywood.

And what better opportunity to be reckon with than in Vipul Shah’s ‘London Dreams’ sharing space with none other than the superstar himself Salman Khan.

On a personal front Brinda is all set to blaze the big screen with her drop dead gorgeous looks and perfect toned body.

Brinda speaks from her heart, “Working down South requires a heavy body with oodles of weight. When I was offered the grey shade in London Dreams, Vipulji first asked me to cut down on some kilos.

I was so excited that I readily agreed. But believe me it wasn’t easy. I was on salads for quite a few weeks. Also to acquire a well toned body Vipulji helped me with a trainee Ilona in London. She was a darling but very strict with her schedules.”

Expounding on her grueling schedule Brinda says, “I did one hour of cardio each day with abs and weight training. Today when I look in the mirror I wonder how easy it was to gain weight but it took quite an effort to reduce about 7 kilos in the end.”

“I am very happy with the results and also the way the film and my role has shaped. But the only thing I regret is that I never got an opportunity to see the macho man Salman working out. I hope I get this chance soon in the future, ” says a happy and toned Brinda.

I've blurred Neil Mukesh's frontal nudity: Madhur Bhandarkar

I`ve blurred Neil Mukesh`s frontal nudity: Madhur Bhandarkar
Frontal nudity by lead actor Neil Nitin Mukesh in his new film "Jail" made headlines, but filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar now says he has blurred the scenes so as to make it watchable for all age groups.

"The film will shake up a lot of people and give a perspective to the common man who has never gone inside a jail. That is also the reason I wanted a U/A certificate for the film, as I want all age groups to watch the film, " Bhandarkar told in an interview here.

"I have also moderated the swear words in it for the same reason and have blurred Neil's frontal nudity so that the film becomes commonly visible, " he added.

Despite controversies surrounding the film courtesy Neil's complete peel-off for his character, Bhandarkar's "Jail" has got a universal adult certificate for the masses.

He also denies making reality-based films to win National Awards.

"Awards do give one a sense of encouragement and a feeling of achievement. But I don't make films to win a National Award. As far as 'Jail' is concerned, it will depend on what the jury thinks. It is too premature to talk about it, " said Bhandarkar.

"I am basically a very blessed person to have it all - critical acclaim, box office success as well as National Awards for my films. For me it's a great moment when my films are appreciated and I just want the same for this one too, " added the director who won the honours for "Chandni Bar", "Page 3" and "Traffic Signal".

Co-produced by Percept Picture Company and Bhandarkar Entertainment, "Jail" is releasing Nov 6. Mugdha Godse plays the female lead in the film that also has Manoj Bajpai in a pivotal role.

"'Jail' is a subject I really felt I should explore because this is something no one has touched earlier in Bollywood. In Indian films, jails have always been shown larger than life. NO one has thrown light on details like how it functions, etc, " he said.

"The trigger for this film is middle-class man Parag Dixit - he lives with his mother, has a girlfriend, works in the corporate sector and has a good record, but how he gets stuck in the law. It can happen to anybody, " said Bhandarkar whose last release "Fashion" was a gold spinner at the box office.

Bhandarkar insists he chose "Jail" as a subject to explore a new territory.

"I could have made a big movie after 'Fashion'. But I felt I should work on a subject that is in contrast to what I have done earlier, keeping in mind that my script will always dominate the subject and budget of my film, " he said.

"A huge amount of research went behind the film like around seven months of paper scanning, TV monitoring, meeting and interacting with people who have gone through the trauma of being in a jail.

"Every minute and basic detail as in how people stay in a jail, what happens to them, how a first time offender is frisked, their body language - everything was looked into for the film, " he explained.

Bhandarkar also visited "three jails for the movie, namely Thane Jail in Mumbai, Yerawada Jail in Pune and Dehradun Jail" where he "observed the functioning of the whole system".

"I also took Neil with me to Thane jail. All the jail authorities cooperated with us considering the kind of information we got from them, " said Bhandarkar.

But won't his cinematic revelation disturb the authorities and the inmates?

"Though 'Jail' is 70 percent fact and 30 percent fiction, it is not judgmental. I am not giving any message with the film; neither am I saying that the authorities or the inmates are right or wrong. The film shows the point of view of a lot of people through Neil's character, " he said.

My wedding date has been finalised: Shilpa Shetty

My wedding date has been finalised: Shilpa Shetty
Bollywood actress Shilpa Shetty says that her wedding date has been finalised, but she will announce it only when her sister Shamita is by her side.

"I know everyone's eager to know about the wedding date. All I can say is yes it's been finalised and I will make an official announcement as soon as I know when Shamita's coming out," Shilpa, who got engaged to London-based Raj Kundra Saturday after a courtship of about two years, posted on her blog.

Shamita is currently participating in the Colors' reality show "Bigg Boss 3". She is locked in the house with 10 more inmates and has no connection with the world outside.

Shilpa says she missed her sister.

"It's been a time of both joy and sorrow for me. The joy is obvious because Raj and I feel happy to take our relationship to the next level, but as most of you know my sister Shamita is still in the 'Bigg Boss' house and could not attend. She doesn't even know.

"The date was decided a week ago and we all came to the consensus that we should go ahead because another good mahurat (auspicious time) was a long way off. And considering Raj's parents and relatives were down from London for a week, so it seemed convenient," she wrote.

"I wanted to have Shamita there during this special moment, but I had to be considerate towards Raj's family too. So for all those who wanted to know why I went ahead without Shamita, it was a difficult decision but this is the answer."

Shilpa admits that when her sister comes out of "Bigg Boss" house, the news of the engagement will shock her.

"I know Shamita will be shocked... she'll kill me. Missed her more than words can describe but I'm sure she'll understand! Can't wait to show her my ring," she wrote.

So far Shilpa has not commented on her sister's stay in "Bigg Boss" house. But now she says that she is proud of Shamita.

"I've never commented on what I think of her in there, but just want to say she's been the pampered baby in our house. It made our whole family so proud to see her have no airs and do all the chores with no qualms," wrote Shilpa who won the British reality show "Celebrity Big Brother" in 2007.

"She's never cooked in her life and I saw her make rotis. I felt terrible watching her cry on TV, but I am amazed to see her growth on the show. This will definitely make her a stronger person. So proud of the way she's conducting herself with so much dignity."

The show only winds up December-end, and the actress cannot postpone her wedding. So, we hear that frantic negotiations are on to get the Shamita out of Bigg Boss before Shilpa's D-day. It is believed that the channel has agreed to Shamita's eviction in time for her to attend the marriage.

Either Bigg Boss will break the news to her and she will voluntarily leave the house, or she will be nominated and then evicted the same week.

Katrina Kaif is going ga ga over Kareena and their bond. Recently giving an interview to a news channel Kat was excited to talk about her friend. Not many people know that both the vivacious actress shares the same manager too.

“She is very nice girl and I like her as well as her work. We even shares one manager and I am a big fan of her,” says Katrina.

There had been news in the industry about their cold war but with this statement of Kat, she is putting it all the rumours at rest.

Kareena Kapoor was the unchallenged queen of B-Town at as far as her price was concerned. But Katrina Kaif started competing with her at every turn: with the price, the number of film, as well as endorsements.

“Whenever we meet each other she talks with me very nicely and I too love her company. I really do admire her as one of the great actress in the industry,” she states in the interview to the entertainment channel.

Looking at this statement it seems the cold war between the two actresses has ended. All’s well that end’s well is what we can say in this case.

I'm the luckiest girl in the world: Asin

I`m the luckiest girl in the world: Asin
By Subhash K Jha

Asin’s back-to-back promotional campaigns for London Dreams have left her exhausted.

Resting at her home on her birthday on Monday, Asin laughed, “Actually I hadn’t slept at all that day or the night before. I had been doing back-to-back interviews non-stop for London Dreams for the last one week with just 3-4 hours of sleep.

On that day there was no sleep or food at all. Anyway I’m making up for the exhausting week with the most peaceful and happy birthday of my life.”

Asin brought in her birthday with a quiet dinner on Sunday night with her close friends. “ It was eight of my closest friends at dinner. We had a ball. At midnight they made me cut a cake. I felt 12-years old again.”

Earlier during the evening Asin arrived home to a big surprise. “When I opened the door the entire house was done up with ballons by my parents, just like they used to for my birthdays when I was a child. I had to burst quite a few balloons because there was no room to even walk. I’ve never felt happier.”

On her birthday Asin regained all the weight that she had to lose for her role in London Dreams. “I had to be much thinner for my character. Now in 24 hours I think I’ve regained all the weight that I lost for London Dreams. I’ve been gorging non-stop on chocolates and chocolate cake. And there’s still so much left.”

The second-half of the day was devoted to spending time with the kids in her highrise apartment. They all love their Asin Didi and wouldn’t miss her birthday for the world.

“Fortunately there was enough cake and chocolates to go around. So it was great fun. This is the best birthday I had. I woke up to God knows how many sms and missed calls. I can’t believe so many people remembered my birthday and cared about it.”

But by far the best part of her birthday was provided by her parents. “When I saw the trouble they had taken over decorating my place I decided then there that I’m the luckiest girl in the world.”

Ranbir to walk the with Katrina, not Deepika
By Subhash K Jha

Today Wednesday (October 28) Katrina Kaif and Ranbir Kapoor will walk the ramp in Delhi for designer Rohit Bal at the conclusion of the Couture Week in Delhi.

Both Katrina and Ranbir have known Rohit Bal socially though this is first they’ll be wearing his clothes,

This is also the first time that Ranbir and Katrina will be walking the ramp together.

“And most definitely the first time for Rohit Bal. But it’s for our film Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani. Rohit will be dressing us up in some fun funky young vibrant clothes. And I’ll of course be sporting my trademark ponytail hairstyle from Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani, ” says Katrina.

Ranbir has been shooting in Bhopal for Prakash Jha’s Rajneeti. On Tuesday the film’s last day of shooting happened. On Wednesday morning Ranbir was expected to join Katrina in Delhi for their ramp romp in the evening.

The last Bollywood biggie to have walked the ramp for Rohit Bal was Shah Rukh Khan.

“I’m excited because Rohit is not a typical Bollywood designer. I want too see what he has put together for me. I’ll only know tomorrow, ” Katrina said on Tuesday.

Katrina is excited about the release of Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani because it’s her first attempt at doing situational comedy. “I’ve a much smaller role in my next release De Dana Dan. But I’m equally excited about it since Akshay and I form a great team. And this is my first film with Priyadarshan.

Priyanka is confirmed, now I am in talks with Hrithik

Priyanka is confirmed, now I am in talks with Hrithik
He carved a niche for himself in filmdom with non-starrers like "Makdee" and "Maqbool". But composer filmmaker Vishal Bhardwaj now says star presence is extremely important for a film's box office success and that he is trying to rope in Bollywood heartthrob Hrithik Roshan for his next movie.

"I think stars are very important to reach out to the people. Along with that they are good actors as well. I think Shah Rukh (Khan) is a very fine actor, so is Aamir (Khan), Hrithik (Roshan), Saif (Ali Khan) and even Shahid (Kapoor)," Bhardwaj told.

"If the audiences love them and they don't mind coming to the cinema halls to see their faces and their costumes, then that's good because we can tell a story through them," added the director who teamed up with big stars for "Omkara" and "Kaminey".

He made his directorial debut "Makdee" (2002) with Makrand Deshpande, Shweta Prasad and Alaap Mazgaonkar. The only big name in the cast was Shabana Azmi.

Two years later, Bhardwaj came out with his highly acclaimed movie "Maqbool", an adaptation of Shakespeare's famous play "Macbeth". It didn't boast of a star line up either -- Pankaj Kapoor, Irrfan Khan and Tabu formed the cast.

But his next directorial venture "Omkara", again based on Shakespeare's play "Othello", was bejwelled with big names like Ajay Devgn, Saif Ali Khan, Kareena Kapoor, Bipasha Basu and Vivek Oberoi.

His latest hit "Kaminey" too had Bollywood stars Shahid Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra.

Now Bhardwaj is trying to sign Hrithik and Priyanka for his next venture. "I am in talks with Hrithik for a film but nothing is confirmed at the moment. However, Priyanka is confirmed for that project," he informed.

The 49-year-old started his Bollwyood innings as a composer for Gulzar's "Maachis" (1996) followed by movies like "Satya" (1998) and "Chachi 420" (1998) before taking on the director's mantle. He has proved his versatility as a music composer, singer, writer and filmmaker.

When asked what among these gives him maximum creative satisfaction and enjoyment, Bhardwaj said: "Enjoyment keeps changing. When you are making a song and it turns out to be very good, then you enjoy that process and that gives you creative satisfaction.

"Similarly, when you are making a film, you keep struggling on it for seven-eight months to set it right and finally when you see the result then that too gives you creative satisfaction and enjoyment. Satisfaction, happiness, enjoyment are all very momentary. They keep changing," he said.

Bhardwaj was in the capital to attend the 11th Osian's Cinefan Film Festival and said that such festivals are imperative so that movie aficionados can see entire films without any censorship.

"People need to see the entire films. Normally, the censor board cuts half of the film; at least there is some place where we can see the film without censorship," he said.

He also feels that censorship should be a personalised thing. "We should be our own censor boards. It should not be imposed on us. This censor board came from the British because they didn't want the Indian movement and Indian struggle to be seen by others, but somehow laws in our country don't change," he rued.

Full Monty on Bigg Boss draws Govt’s ire

Bigg Boss 3 gets notice for showing vulgarity
Reality show Bigg Boss-Season 3, anchored by Bollywood star Amitabh Bachchan, is in trouble.
The Information & Broadcasting Ministry on Monday asked Colors entertainment channel to explain why it did not censor a scene where two participants — Aditi Gowitrikar and Tanaz Irani — pulled down the shorts of Raju Srivastava, another participant, and also provided the footage to news channels.
The ministry has asked the channel to reply by Friday or else face action, which includes suspension of the transmission or a ban for a certain period.
After the ministry’s intervention, news channels stopped showing the clip, which was repeatedly played on Sunday.
“The clip had evoked a strong reaction,” said a senior I&B ministry official requesting anonymity. “Social groups and political leaders have objected to this semi-nudity on TV.”
The ministry has the power to suspend transmission or ban a channel found violating the programme code, which lists dos and don’ts for the television industry. Colors has already been issued three notices and two advisories for violation of the code since it got approval on June 12, 2008.
“We are yet to receive the notice. We have taken all measures to ensure our programme Bigg Boss-Season 3 is in compliance with the program code and we meticulously beep out any abusive language used by participants keeping in mind the sensitivity of the audience,” a Colors spokesperson said.

Katrina responsible for Ranbir-Deepika's fights?

RANBIR KAPOOR and DEEPIKA PADUKONE - RANBIR KAPOOR and KATRINA KAIF

Of late stories were doing the rounds about Bollywood's much-in-love proclaiming couple Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone's relationship going through turbulent times. Due to the continuous fights the couple is not on talking terms.

However it's being maintained that Deepika is upset with beau Ranbir as he doesn't give her enough time these days. While Deepika is absolutely keen on commitment Ranbir feels it's too early to get into commitments. But it seems the fire behind this smoke happens to be Katrina Kaif.

CHECK OUT: Ranbir Kapoor does GHAZAB KA hardwork!

Well how? Apparently Ranbir shares good rapport with Katrina Kaif, who happens to be his co-star in films like AJAB PREM KI GHAZAB KAHANI & RAJNEETI. And after working in these two films the duo get along like house on fire. Moreover, Ranbir and Katrina have been linked up time & again for their rocking chemistry. Even Katrina has been heard saying that she feels pretty comfortable working with Ranbir and the 2 bond fast as their working styles are quite alike.

Hmm...now under such circumstances do we see a new relationship brewing up? Well Deepika if that's the case, you soon need to take some action before it gets too late....

Neil Mukesh's masturbation scene in Jail shortened

Neil Nitin Mukesh has the distinction of being the first mainstream hero to do a masturbation scene for Madhur Bhandarkar's Jail. Says the actor, "Frankly, if it was any other director, I'd have said no. But knowing the way Madhur depicts explicit sexual scenes, I said yes."

The wanking sequence was shot with 450 other actors present on the set. Neil recalls, "All the inmates are asleep when I do it. Now, most of the scene has been chopped off. But we still see the character doing it." All that remains now is the suggestion of his 'happy alone' time.
By mutual consent

A portion of the sequence was voluntarily removed from the film even before it was presented to the Censor Board. Says Neil,  "Honestly, after Madhur and I shot it, we found we had gone too far. It was too explicit. It was just not going with Indian aesthetics. So we decided to knock it off quite a bit by mutual consent. We just wondered if the flow of the narration would be hampered."

That's not only sexually explicit sequence Neil has participated in for Jail. "In one sequence, I go in the night to the bath and see one boy performing oral sex on another. I interrupt them and one of them says, 'You had to come and spoil the fun!' While we agreed to remove dialogue the scene of oral sex remains."

Not titillating

About his bold scenes, Neil says, "My nude or masturbation scenes are not for titillation. It's a very practical need in the script. My character is in Jail without sex for 2 1/2 years. What does he do? He naturally seeks pleasure by himself. In the scene that we shot, my character fantasises about his girlfriend and gets his gratification. Even the love-making scene with Mugdha (Godse) has been aesthetically shot."

Offbeat pleasure
Neil Nitin Mukesh may be the first mainstream Indian star to masturbate on screen. But on a more offbeat note, Rahul Bose had pleasured himself way back in 1994 in Dev Benegal's English, August. Back then, it was referred to in the film as "self-abuse", a perverted practice that the film's bureaucrat hero Agastya repeatedly indulged in out of sheer boredom. Rahul who had also been part of gay love scenes in Bomgay, later said it was no big deal since any bored single man would do the same.

Katz can’t get enough of Akshay

Akshay and Katrina have proved to be a very successful pair in movies likeHumko Deewana Kar Gaye, Welcome, Namastey London and Singh is Kinng.

Katrina is moving away from glam doll roles towards serious, performance films as if evident from New York, Rajneeti andAjab Prem Ki Ghajab KahaniShe did De Dana Dan, a multi-starrer comedy on Akshay’s insistence. They will be seen as an on-screen couple in Anthony D’souza’s next film reportedly titledAasman, which is a sequel to Blue.

The film’s cast is even bigger than that of Blue. Along with Akshay and Katrina, Lara, Sanjay and Zayed will reprise their roles. Neha Uberoi who made an unsuccessful debut in Woodstock Villa and followed it up with another flop in the form of EMI will star opposite Zayed in the film. A special role is being written for John Abraham who will have Sonal Chauhan (of Jannat fame) as his heroine. AR Rahman has agreed to score the music for this film as well.

A source tells us that Anthony wants to make a film with John because they both have been friends for a long time and John helped him find producers for Blue. Moreover, it will be great to have four hunks on screen. John and Akshay have previously worked in Garam Masala while John and Sanjay were at loggerheads inZinda. Lara will have to maintain her bikini figure and Sonal and Neha have been asked to tone up to look super hot. Aasman will start off as an underwater adventure and then move to the sky. It is most likely to borrow elements from Top Gun and Behind Enemy Lines.

Anthony D’souza confirmed the news saying, “I can’t say much about the film now as it’s too early. I am currently busy because of the success of Blue. I am keen on having John on board.” "I am currently reading a lot of scripts, and when I decide to do a film, it will be a multi-starrer, most definitely with the same cast from Blue," he added.

He had a great time working with Katrina and Akshay in Blue, and sees no reason why he should not cash on their magic. Didn't they give some of the biggest (but brainless) hits in recent times? We're counting!

London Dreams press call all about Salman

Last night the cast of London Dreams caught up with the media across the globe live from the Big Apple. Salman Khan, Asin, Ranvijay, Aditya and Vipul Shah were all due to face questions from the press at a video conference. After having had London Dreams songs on a loop for 20 minutes well past the stated time and hearing the mic test and Salman whistling in the background, the Q & A session finally kicked off. And were we glad!
Ajay Devgn unfortunately couldn't make it as he was busy shooting a climax scene for another project. But just a few minutes into the meet, we realised we didn't miss him at all. Salman was enough. The bad boy of Bollywood had us oscillating between splits and 'being human'. He spiked everybody's response with applause, wise cracks and also flashed his humane side. He stopped short of taking off his shirt though.
A media person was quite insistent that Salman flaunt his muscular torso. An abashed Salman tried to dodge the invite. And when he figured it wasn't working, pretended not to hear. The persistence didn't flag till he said, "there are too many men in this room." To which, a female reporter chipped in, "we can ask them to leave." Seeing Salman blush is truly precious.
He fielded questions on his character in the movie, his character in real life and comparisons to Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam with humour intact.
Were you able to relate to the character, Salman?
My name is Manu in the film. He’s obnoxious, crude, vulgar, and a flirt. I don't know if I can relate to somebody like that," said Salman with a smirk. "He's all heart. And the film's shaped up well. I said that about Main Aurr Mrs Khanna as well, except that people didn't want to come and watch the film.London Dreams has high romance, high energy. I would call it a musicalSholay."
How is it different from Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam? How is it different between Ajay and you?
Different in name, different director, made 10 years back. She gets married to Ajay. Here...it's me. The music is way better. It is visually and emotionally stronger. This film is about friendship, ambition, and jealousy. That film was about romance. This film is about friends and how they get over their hurdles.”
Do you and Ajay have the same vibe in real life?
We've known each other a very long time. He won't bitch. He’s a no bullshit kinda person. He keeps to himself. But he's always playing pranks. He's a funny guy. Ajay even pulled a prank on Asin.
Asin confirms this by chipping in and narrating her experience. Ajay Devgn had apparently gotten a body builder to try and "scare the hell out of her". With a, "Sorry, Ajay," Asin revealed that his plans flopped.
The actress seems to have been a favourite on the sets when it came to pulling pranks. Aditya exclaimed how much fun he and Ranvijay had "pulling Asin's leg". But also gave her due credit: "She's a tough nut to crack."
But is she a tough nut on screen? Is her role limited to dancing and singing?
Asin lays the misconception to rest. "I'm glad to have been chosen for the role of Priya. There are a few similarities. She's a south Indian. I relate to her because she grows up in London, but is born to Iyer parents. She has a desire to express herself through dance, which is quite similar to my passion. However, she doesn't get the opportunity to do so at home. So she rebels and gets a rock chick look. Here I would like to say that neither am I conservative at home nor as wild when I step out. She's a solo lead. Hers is an important role in taking the movie forward and the friends."
Salman who applauded to pretty much everyone's reply, clapped loudest for Asin. However, on being queried about the work experience with Asin, Salman kept it short and simple: “Ok, seriously. Just ok.”
Asin predictably gets down to slapping him playfully and exclaiming.
But sadly she didn’t extend this to her answer on the working-with-Salman-experience. She went sentimental, but not before Salman her "spokesperson" answered for her, "Out of the world!"
"It was the most enjoyable working experience in my career so far. I'm happy. It's come out brilliantly. I'm slightly pained that I'm not going to be shooting with them anymore. They're all fabulous co-stars," said the actress.
She wasn't let off the hook just yet. Out of Aamir, Salman and Ajay who's the most professional?
"Aamir obviously," said Salman. Asin picked up with, "All of them have their traits. They all are professionals otherwise they wouldn't be where they are...hugely popular stars. I gelled with all of them."
There was one more Salman comparison question to go. Ajay & Salman. Who's better?
"I can't judge. They do justice to their roles. I see only Ajay playing Ajay's role and Salman his," Asin said.
The panache Asin lacked, Salman made up for. He tackled every question like King Kong would a biplane, even the ones that came for Ajay Devgn.
How do you plan to combat piracy of London DreamsBlue and What's Your Rashee have been hit by it.
No one expected Salman to break out into an impassioned bashing of piracy. "We work so hard. To deprive us, and the government of revenue is disgusting! It's not those who can't afford to watch a movie. It's those who can who do it. How can you make money off someone else's hard work? It's disgusting. We need tougher laws. One guy should go to jail for a long time and things will change. It's just plain disgusting."
On a lighter vein he stated his self-assessment over the years with self praise. "Amazing. There's no comparison at all to Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam. We've risen. No can do the character like I do," he said in mock pride.
But the same Salman Khan lost his alacrity when it came to pop music.
Jay Sean, a South Asian, is currently ruling the pop charts. With London Dreams how do you feel Indian music is incorporating more international sounds?
A befuddled Salman admitted that he wasn't a fan of pop. And that he's still stuck in the 1960s with a little bit of Bangra thrown in. He said his li'l sister Arpita however, would be able to answer this question.
Vipul Shah managed to bag a couple of questions by virtue of being the director.
What's special about London Dreams?
"It's a unique story. In the recent past there hasn't been a movie with great human drama. It's the story of two friends on the backdrop of music. They fall in love with the same girl. It's about how they fulfill their dream.
”We have an amazing team, with Shankar, Ehsan, Loy and Prasoon Joshi. As for the star cast, I couldn't have asked for anything better. I got the exact actors I wanted. It's been a dream run for me. Hope it's successful."
Shah got flustered by the Rock On comparison. On wondering aloud ifLondon Dreams is in the same vein as Rock On that talks about a struggling band as well, Shah lashed out with, "Rock On came out in the recent past. I'm not a fool to make a similar story. Rock on was made for a particular segment. London Dreams is made for all, in India, abroad, everywhere.
”The way we've shot the concerts, it's the first time you'd see something this big. Some International folks we showed it to were impressed with the scale."
Shah also explained the way he shot the brilliant concert scene at the Wembley. It wasn't in fact, the Wembley. They shot the exterior and put up sets of the interior in Mumbai. But 10,000 of the crowd are real people with CG multiplying the numbers.
Considering Shah already has Namaste London to his credit and now London Dreams, one wondered if he wrote the script around London. He assured us that that wasn't the case and he was game for New York too provided the script has scope for it.
A question for Ajay on his supposed negative role in the upcoming flick, was fielded by Shah. "Ajay does have gray shades. But when someone chooses someone as pure as Manu as his best friend, you can't be negative. Jealousy does creep in. But he's gray, not black. The complexity of the character will become clear when you see film.”
While Ranvijay and Aditya made their presence felt by chipping in with the others, they had only two questions directed at them. Queried about their experience on working with big stars such as Salman, Asin and Ajay, they took their opportunity to gush .
"Wonderful," exclaimed Aditya. "I got to play the guitar in Albert Hall. It was a thing of dreams." Ranvijay piped in with, "we were pampered on the sets. It was a holiday! Whenever we went out, Salman used to leave the room door open for us and the food would be by the microwave after we got back from partying till 4:30 am."
”And Vipul sir is the best actor we've seen. Even if we'd do half as good as him, it would be great! And we loved pulling Asin's leg!" To which Asin retorted, "I've given it back in equal measure which they're not admitting now."
The clichéd question on their dreams that was bound to crop up sooner or later thanks to the title, came towards the end of the meet. Asin dished out how being in the entertainment industry is her dream with regard to work. Vipul Shah admitted that his original dream was to be an actor but "better dreams have been achieved." Ranvijay wants to makes his parents proud. And Aditya joked that he wanted to be a cricketer and now that he has a shot at acting, doesn't want to mess it up. But the most poignant of the lot came from Salman.
"My dream is to have pleasant dreams. I have bad dreams. I don't sleep anyway. Go out there and achieve what you want. You'll have lots of time to dream when you're dead," said the actor.
This wasn't the only instance where Sallu allowed us to peek into his persona behind the screen. On Being Human, his philanthropic venture, he said that it wasn't a ploy to cover his past deeds or repent. "No one thought I'd make it. I was the black sheep of the family. Now I have made it because people love me and pay to watch me. I want to give back now. It's a defect inherited from my father. Generosity has always been there even when I didn't have money. I'd probably feel the pinch when I don't have it. People might think I'm doing this to clear my image. I'm just doing it for myself because I want to."
The press meet ended with a question unrelated to London DreamsHow does one get in touch with Being Human? Salman assured us that the website will be launched next month and all the details we seek will be provided for.
Salman earlier said that he didn't undertake any preparation for the role of Manu as the character’s all heart and rustic. That's the Salman we got to see in this tete-a-tete - all heart and all play. Going by the fun quotient and profound emotions that Salman brought out in this chat, London Dreams is bound to be a blast!

Shilpa Shetty, Raj Kundra to get engaged on Saturday

shilpa-shettys-engagement-set-for-today
New Delhi: It's finally official. Bollywood actor Shilpa Shetty will get engaged to London-based millionaire beau Raj Kundra on Saturday.

Shilpa has been dating the businessman for more than two years now.

The engagement is due to take place at Raj Kundra's Juhu home in Mumbai.

Shilpa's sister Shamita Shetty who is fighting it out on the Bigg Boss show will miss the engagement.

According to reports, the wedding will take place in December in Mumbai, followed by a reception in London.

The bride-to-be will be wearing a Manish Malhotra creation for the function.

Shilpa, who had been considered a second-rung actress in Bollywood for a long time got a career-boost with the Channel 4 reality show Big Brotherwhen she won. The racist row with fellow housemate, late Jade Goody, shot her in the limelight. Shilpa finally won the show.

Scramble for space on ghats

PATNA: With the Ganga having been swollen, the space on its banks has shrunk and there is virtually a scramble among Chhath devotees for space on the ghats.

"Last year the river was flowing at least 100 meters away from its bank," said Arvind Kumar of Baaskothi Ghat in Digha. Pointing towards the second pillar of the Digha-Sonepur road-rail bridge coming up nearby, he said last year the river water had reached only up to the second pillar. "This time, the river water has topped an area of 100 additional metres from the pillar towards the bank," he said.

Not surprisingly, the devotees who used to pour in during the evening hours on `Kharna' day every year, started thronging the ghats since early morning this year to block space. "There are just a few ghats where vehicles can go up to the banks. All these ghats have already been blocked," said Rajeev Kumar, a government official who lives in Raja Bazaar area. Kumar this year has had to remain content with a space on a ghat where his car cannot reach.

Bamboo sticks are there inside the river, indicating the danger mark to the devotees offering `arghya' to Sungod. "Up to the bamboo sticks, the water is just waist deep, and safe. However, it will be difficult to control the sea of humanity," said Brindawan Yadav, another resident of the area.

Despite the state government's warning about the Ganga ghats not being safe due to the rise in water level, a large number of the devotees have opted to offer their prayers from the banks of Ganga. At several places, sandbags have been lined up on the marshy land on the bank to serve as a road to the river. "However, it's doubtful that these sandbags will be able to withstand the weight of the crowd on Saturday evening," said Yadav.

The entire road along the Ganga from Patna to Danapur is decked up with lights, pandals and welcome arches dotting the stretch. Loudspeakers are blaring Chhath songs.

Meanwhile, former Patna MP Ram Kripal Yadav ridiculed chief minister Nitish Kumar and deputy CM Sushil Kumar Modi for extending greetings to Chhath devotees when the government has failed to provide civic amenities to the devotees. He said the Patna Municipal Corporation employees, who play a key role in keeping the city clean, have not been paid their salaries.

The RJD leader alleged the government did not construct a single ghat during the last four years and is now spending huge funds on digging temporary ponds for Chhath devotees.

Bigg Boss has sick people: Kamaal

Not concerned about his unexpected elimination from the "Bigg Boss" house, Bhojpuri actor-producer Kamaal R. Khan says that despite being stuck
Kamaal R Khan

with 10 sick people he had a good time on the reality show.

Kamaal, who was nominated for eviction, was asked to leave a day before the results of public voting were announced because of his intolerable, abusive and uncouth behaviour since the beginning of the show. But he is unperturbed.

"It was a very good experience. Even though I had to eat food like it was made in jail, had no contact with anyone outside and had to stay with 10 'beemaar' (sick) people, I had a good time," Kamaal told IANS on phone from Mumbai.

Asked why he refers to his co-participants as 'beemaar', Kamaal said: "Except for me, Ismail (Darbar) and Vindu (Dara Singh), everyone had a health problem. Someone couldn't eat sugar or had to compromise on the salt - but three of us always ate everything."

Kamaal was the most controversial inmate in the "Bigg Boss" house. He says whatever fights or arguments he had with his co-participants -- Bakhtiyaar Irani, Tanaaz Currim and Poonam Dhillon -- happened because their thinking and ideas clashed.

Kamaal says he had never expected to be thrown out of the show. He is, however, glad he could keep his promise with co-participant, item girl Sherlyn Chopra.

"I had promised Sherlyn that I will quit if she has to leave the house before I am evicted out of the show. So god ne meri izzat rakh li (god saved my pride). I am happy for her that she is inside the 'Bigg Boss' house," he said.

He is also hoping to team up with German supermodel Claudia Ciesla, his inmate on "Bigg Boss".

"I want to work with Claudia hundred percent! If she wants to work with me in future, I would love to have her in my film. She is a good actress and even a very nice human being, I feel," said Kamaal.

"We spoke to each other about film projects and she said she wants to do some work in the Indian film industry. But we will talk about it after she is out of 'Bigg Boss'," he added.

Kamaal, who had earlier worked with Italian actress Rosa Catalano in his controversial film "Desh Drohi", tried to pursue Claudia into a good friendship in the initial episodes of the show but gave up when she did not reciprocate. He is all set to begin shooting for "Desh Drohi 2" as he plans to release it in April 2010.

"Bigg Boss" is currently in its third season. It started with 13 celebrities locked up inside a secluded house for 84 days and are kept under constant camera surveillance without any contact with the outside world. The show airs on Colors.

So far two elimination have taken place and now there are 11 people in the house.
