Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif arrived together for a special screening of 'Ship of Theseus'.

Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif have been the talk of the town for one entire year with people speculating about their relationship. However, the duo have always kept the media guessing their equation. And before anybody could even confirm the couple happily dating, talks of trouble in paradise started doing the rounds and the two were spotted arriving separately for Aamir Khan’s bash on Thursday (January 30) evening.

For the whole of 2013, neither Ranbir Kapoor nor Katrina Kaif admitted or denied a romantic involvement. But then they did make public appearances together, sending a not-so-subtle message about their special friendship.
The couple arrived together for a special screening of ‘Ship of Theseus’ and the Diwali bash at Amitabh Bachchan’s residence last year also saw Katrina in high spirits with her beau.

Pictures of Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif holidaying together in Spain were splashed all over. The couple was snapped enjoying a day at the beach together in their swimwear last year. The incident set a lot of tongues wagging and the duo realised there was no good in denying anything anymore, with pictures speaking a thousand words.

After that, Ranbir and Katrina have been spotted together at many late-night filmi dos. They finally made a joint appearance at the screening of ‘The Wolf of Wall Street’ and looked quite comfortable together amidst the cameras.
Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif were known to have brought in 2014 together in New York. But, things turned sour when the couple apparently had a spat, following which they returned separately from their holiday.

Ranbir Kapoor was recently spotted at UTV’s Siddharth Roy Kapur’s residence sans Katrina.

Looks like their lover’s tiff is very much still on with the duo making separate entrances at Aamir Khan’s recent bash. Reports suggest that during their film Jagga Jasoos”s current schedule the two are not on talking terms and refrain from spending time with each other, choosing instead to stay in their respective vanity vans.
Hopefully, Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif sort out their issues.

Still open to do Southern remakes: Salman Khan

Still open to do Southern remakes: Salman Khan
Mumbai: Superstar Salman Khan`s recent release `Jai Ho`, a hindi remake of Southern film `Stalin`, may have received mixed response at the box office but that doesn`t mean that he has lost interest in the genre.

Post the release of `Jai Ho`, there were reports that Salman is no longer keen on working in Southern remakes but the 48-year-old denied this by saying: "Who said I will not do any Southern remake? Did I say that? No."

"Whenever a good remake will come up I will do it," he added.

So far, Salman has worked in four Southern remakes including `Wanted`, `Bodyguard` and `Ready`. While these three raked in hefty amounts, `Jai Ho` managed to pull in approximately Rs.61 crore in the opening weekend of it`s release.

However Salman emphasised that his next films will have new to give to the audience.

"All my next films are of different kinds," said the superstar who will be next seen in `Kick`, being directed by Sajid Nadiadwala.

Jai ho box office collections fall short of Rs 100-cr mark, Salman Khan behind Dhoom 3

Salman Khan's latest has, however, managed to enter the elite Rs 100 club if worldwide collections are taken into account.
conntrary to all expectations, Jai Ho box office collections have not yet passed the first hurdle of Rs 100 crore mark domestically and it has been almost a week since the film hit the silver screen.
'Jai Ho' has been 'manfully' trying scale the peak achieved by Aamir Khan's history-creating Dhoom 3, which bagged in excess of Rs 530 crore, but to no avail.
Trade analyst Taran Adarsh, who has been tweeting about Jai ho's day-to-day box office collections, said the movie is yet to enter the Rs 100 crore mark (domestic business), which is unlike any Salman Khan movie released in the past 3-4 years.
As of Tuesday, Jai Ho box office collections were Rs 77.48 crore nett (India biz only). The movie did a business of Rs 60.68 crore over the business followed by Rs 9.50 crore on Monday and Rs 7.30 crore on Tuesday.
“#JaiHo Wknd 60.68 cr, Mon 9.50 cr, Tue 7.30 cr. Total: ₹ 77.48 cr nett. India biz only,” Adarsh had tweeted on Wednesday.
Salman Khan's latest has, however, just managed to enter the elite Rs 100 club if worldwide collections are taken into account. As far as overseas box office collections are concerned, 'Jai Ho' box office collections till Monday had been $3.55 mn (Rs 22.36 cr).
‘Jai Ho’ collected a 'meager' Rs 17.75 crore on its opening day. Though the film's business did pick up on January 26 and collected Rs 26 crore, it was unable to sustain it the next day. Aamir Khan-starrer Dhoom 3 has the highest opening day domestic box office collections of Rs 36.22 crore.
Salman Khan, who had earlier taken the blame for the debacle of ‘Jai Ho’, took to Twitter to thank fans for their support.
But industry sources quote Jai Ho figures as 'respectable' though not 'hot', as January usually is a slow start for all businesses in overseas markets owing to the extended holiday winter break in western countries.
According to film trade analysts Komal Nehta Jai Ho has already made a profit of Rs 100 core. "For all those asking, Salman and Sohail have made Rs 100 crore profit in JAI

Parineeti Chopra
Parineeti Chopra

Who says two actresses don't praise each other? Bollywood's current favourite Parineeti Chopra is not only friends with her contemporary Alia Bhatt, but also feels that Alia has the potential to achieve the "big star" status.

Earlier, Alia was heard praising Parineeti in an episode of Karan Johar's chat show "Koffee With Karan Season 4". She said Parineeti's skills make her insecure in her skin and she sees competition in her.

"Alia and I are good friends. In fact, she always tells me these things. So when she said this on the show, I felt good that she praised me. I even gave her a call and told her that she doesn't need to feel insecure because I feel Alia will be a very big star," Parineeti said in an interview here.

The actress also praised Alia's "good looks" and "great screen presence".

"If I would not have been an actress, then as an audience I would have been an Alia Bhatt fan. But as an actress, I know she is very crafty, very good looking and has a great screen presence," said the 25-year-old who made her debut in 2011 with "Ladies vs Ricky Bahl".

Parineeti will next be seen in "Hasee Toh Phasee" with Siddharth Malhotra, while Alia's next is Imtiaz Ali's "Highway" with Randeep Hooda.

Telugu cinema icon ANR dead

ANR, End of an era. File photo: G Ramakrishna
The 91-year-old romantic hero acted till the very end

HYDERABAD, JAN 22:
For Akkineni Nageswara Rao, or ANR as he is popularly known, movies were his life, first and last. The veteran, who died early on Wednesday, dominated, alongside N. T. Rama Rao, the Telugu cinema through the 1960s and the 1970s. For half a century, ANR and NTR (N. T. Rama Rao), were like the two eyes of the Telugu film industry, or Tollywood.

Born on September 20, 1923, ANR knew well his strengths and weaknesses. Of fragile physique, he knew macho roles were not for him; he remained the romantic hero.

His memorable portrayal of Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay’s tragic hero Devdas won him nation-wide acclaim. Film experts rate his performance the best among the various versions of Devdas. ANR’s was a fairy-tale like rise in the industry. With no godfather and with a modest education, he scaled several peaks with grit and discipline. Trained under such great directors as K. V. Reddy, B. N. Reddy, Gudavalli Ramabrahmam and Ghantasala Balaramaiah, he gave his best in every role. Being very selective in the roles he played, he acted in just about 250 films.

He starred in several blockbusters that avid movie-goers never tire of watching, including Mayabazaar, Gundamma Katha, Dasara Bullodu, Tenali Ramakrishna, Missamma, Mahakavi Kalidas, Vipranarayana, Balaraju, Suvarnasundari, Moogamanasulu, Premnagar, Meghasandesam and Seetaramayyagaari Manavaraalu. Most of them had ANR in the leading role Mayabazaar, Missamma and Gundamma Kathafeatured NTR also.

ANR’s acting career, which began in 1941, continued till the very end. He had just finished shooting for the film Manam (We) co-starring his son, Nagarjuna, and grandson, Naga Chaitanya.

Recently diagnosed with cancer of the intestine, the gritty thespian made a public announcement that he was determined to defeat it. ANR received several top honours, including Dada Saheb Phalke Award, Raghupati Venkaiah Award and Padma Vibhushan. Unlike NTR, ANR never attempted to direct movies though produced several.

He was one of the first film personalities to build a film studio (Annapoorna Studios) in Hyderabad in 1976. This helped the Telugu film industry take roots in Andhra Pradesh, forcing actors and technicians to shift base to Hyderabad from Chennai.

Hot Bollywood Gossip: Deepika Padukone heartbroken as Ranveer Singh misses award nominations

Subhash K Jha

Any doubts about the warm friendship shared between Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh are dispelled when one realizes how protective she is of his right to win awards during this awards season. Going by the early trends it looks like Deepika Padukone is all set to sweep all the popular awards. But the actress is not ecstatic about her triumph. Why?  That's because her Goliyon Ki Raasleela Ram Leela co-star and her real-life good friend (wink wink) Ranveer Singh is not likely to win any of the awards.
Deeepika, who feels Ranveer was as good as her in Ram Leela, is disappointed on her co-star’s behalf. Says a source, “Deepika thinks Ranveer deserves awards for Ram Leela. However she cannot come out and say this out loud as she is too politically correct in her proclamations to risk offending the other actors in the Best Actor nominations.”
Apparently, the actress was heartbroken when Ranveer was not even nominated for the Best Actor category in the Screen awards. “Deepika called up a friend to say she felt awful about Ranveer’s exclusion as she felt he was not just as good as her in Ram Leela, but even better than her,” says the source. Sadly, the chances of Ranveer winning any award for Best Actor seem dim, considering the competition. “But what better award than to have your co-star (read good friend) believe so strongly in your performance?” says the source. We couldn't agree less!

Click to check out Ranveer and Deepika's chemistry off the cameras in these moments that were captured by the shutterbugs just in time.

Will become a singer if I fail as an actress: Alia Bhatt

 Alia Bhatt
Alia Bhatt - IANS
Alia Bhatt, who has lent her voice to a song in her upcoming film 'Highway', says if she fails as an actress, she will turn to singing.

When director Imtiaz Ali asked her to croon a number in 'Highway', she jumped at the idea.

"I am not a singer... I think I am a bathroom singer. When I was asked to sing I was excited and thought of trying it (singing) out. A R Rahman sir was very patient with me. If I fail as an actress, I will become a singer," Alia told reporters here last night at the film's promotional event.

When the team of 'Highway' was travelling since it is a road movie, Alia would often sing Rahman's song 'Jiya Re Jiya'. That's when Imtiaz thought of exploring her singing talent.

Music maestro A R Rahman told her to practice and that if she learns singing for two years, she could have her album.

According to Alia, who is geared up for the highway journey in a deglam avatar with Randeep Hooda, both acting and singing are difficult.

"I am just two films old when it comes to acting and it's my debut as a singer with 'Highway'. For me both are difficult," she said.

"When I was recording with Rahman sir, I messed up a few times but that is ok...it happens. I did not know anything about singing...I did not know how to sustain my breath, but later on I learnt with the help of Rahman sir," Alia added.

'Highway', produced by Imtiaz Ali's Window Seat Films and presented by Sajid Nadiadwala, will be released worldwide by UTV Motion Pictures on February 21. The film is set in six states and captures the journey of two completely opposite persons who come together by fate.

First Look: Katrina Kaif, Saif Ali Khan in action flick Phantom

Saif Ali Khan and Katrina Kaif, who are currently shooting in Beirut, Lebanon for Kabir Khan’s next directorial venture, will be seen doing some action-packed sequences.

Katrina has earlier performed a few sporadic stunts in Kabir’s last blockbuster, Ek Tha Tiger (2012), where she was seen opposite Salman Khan.

Scripted by crime writer Hussain Zaidi and produced by Sajid Nadiadwala, the film reportedly revolves around the 26/11 terror attacks. “After his home production, Agent Vinod (2012), Saif is again playing the role of a secret agent, with Katrina playing his love interest,” says an insider. This is Katrina’s second outing with Saif after Race (2008).

The makers are set to complete the shooting schedule by the end of this month and the unit will return to India before Diwali.

Salman Khan's 'Jai Ho' gets U/A certificate with cuts?

The film has been reportedly passed by the Central Board of Film Certification with a U/A certificate and a number of cuts.

Salman Khan
Salman Khan
Superstar Salman Khan's young fans, who form a sizeable slice of his mammoth fan-following, may need to be accompanied by adults to be able to see his latest film "Jai Ho".

The film has been reportedly passed by the Central Board of Film Certification with a U/A certificate and a number of cuts.

"Actually, this is quite an unusual situation for a Salman-starrer. His films are usually passed with a 'U' certificate with minimum or no cuts. But 'Jai Ho' is a political thriller about a common man's successful attempt to foil an assassination bid against a chief minister," said a source.

"There are many very hard-hitting dialogues against corruption in present-day Indian politics. This is Salman's first film with a strong political statement," added the source.

It is said that the censor board asked for some of Salman's tirade against corrupt politicians and their dubious politics to be toned down or beeped out.

"There were no abusive dialogues. Salman doesn't abuse on screen. But there are several references to current politics that could have made real-life politicians uncomfortable. These have gone. Also, some seconds from a few action scenes that were found to be lengthy," said the source.

With the cuts and the 'U/A' certificate, "Jai Ho" becomes Salman's first censor-restricted film.

The film will come out Jan 24.

Kamasutra 3D director hits back at Sherlyn Chopra for quitting film

Without saying anything more on this, we straight away give you Kamasutra 3D's Director Rupesh Paul's statement that he sent us over Sherlyn Chopra's Twitter rant. (What's the whole controversy? Read the full story here)

Rupesh Paul's statement:

"We'll it's actually a new news for me to know that Sherlyn has quit the movie. As a director, I have shot all the scenes with her for my movie except for few promotional ones. Then I fail to understand when did she quit? After being a major part of us in Cannes, American Film Market, IFFI- Goa and more, even till the end month of the last year, when did she actually quit?

From her tweets, what i guess is, she is highly pissed of with her badly made, poorly sung and worsely acted single - 'Bad Girl'. I would be more than happy if she is getting some publicity for her single through this controversy.

She should not forget that it is Rupesh Paul and Kamasutra 3D who has brought her to the light of cinema from the stinking darkness of porn and filth, presenting her to the world and to her 'fans' as an actress from a stripper. But then, how can I change someone's 'DNA'?

All I want to say her is, "Dear Sherlyn, you can hire a pimp for your business, but spare your father* ".

(*Sherlyn used to call me 'Appa', which means father in all South Indian languages. She is also a half South Indian as you already know)

Sherlyn Chopra has retweeted our story but she has not given out any statement to us as yet.

Music Review: 'Jai Ho' music has its ups and downs

Aditi Chandra

It is said to be the biggest opener of 2014. Only time will tell if the viewers hail the movie or not.

Film: Jai Ho
Composers: Sajid-Wajid, Amal Malik and Devi Sri Prasad
Singers: Wajid, Shaan, Shreya Ghoshal, Shabab Sabri, Himesh Reshammiya, Keerthi Sagathia, Palak Muchhal, Altamash Faridi, Armaan Malik, Bhaven Dhanak, Brijesh Shandilya, Ujjayinee and Amal Malik
Rating **

Salman Khan-starrer Jai Ho is an action-drama directed by Sohail Khan. It is said to be the biggest opener of 2014. Only time will tell if the viewers hail the movie or not.

The album has nine tracks, including two remixes, but the composers' efforts are nothing to write home about.

The album starts with Baki sab first class hai, sung by Wajid. The song is good and relatable, but it's more like a speech given during a rally - the only difference is that it has music.

Next is Tere naina maar hi daalenge. It reminds one of Dagabaaz re and Tere mast mast do nain songs. There is obviously nothing wrong in it, but why the obsession with "naina"? Nevertheless Shaan, Shreya Ghoshal and Shabab Sabri have done a great job and the composers too create an effect by using tabla.

Photocopy, sung by Himesh Reshammiya, Keerthi Sagathia and Palak Muchhal, is the third song. Reshammiya's voice has once again created its magic in the song. It is a good dance number and will be a hit during the Navratri season.

Tumko to aana hi tha is a slow number. Crooned by Armaan Malik, Marianne D'Cruz's and Altamash Faridi, it has Indian as well as western flavour, but there's no "wow" factor in it. People need to understand that romantic songs are not only about some lovey-dovey lines and slow music. The song lacks emotions.

For a change, Love you till the end (House Mix) turns out to be nice and peppy. Armaan Malik went behind the mike to sing the song. The beats are groovy.

Naacho re follows it. Sung by Ujjayinee, it is a mess. The listener will surely have the 'What the hell' expression after listening to the song.

The Jai jai jai jai ho title track is an effort by singers Wajid, Armaan Malik, Brijesh Shandliya and Amal Mallik. Its chance of wooing music lovers in urban India is however bleak and it will certainly not be accepted in rural areas too, although the beats are good.

A remix version of Photocopy by DJ Angel is next on the list. It is good to the ears. An apt song for festive season!

Baki sab first class hai, a remix by DJ Angel, wraps up the album. The concept of creating a remix version of anything and everything should be avoided. There is nothing good about it and it is a waste of time and effort.

Overall, the Jai Ho album has its ups and downs.

Will Ranbir replace Salman as Bigg Boss 8 host?

India Today Online  New Delhi,

The Dabagg Khan is trending on Twitter, though it is not a surprise, but we decided to investigate. This is what we came to know: there's a media report circulating on Internet that says Salman Khan has refused to host the next season of the hit reality show Bigg Boss.

Huge credit goes to Sallu bhai in making the show as popular as it is. Anyway, the report says that the makers have tried their best to convince the superstar but have failed to do so.

Apparently, the actor is not willing to take up hosting the show and get into anymore controversies. Also, one of the main reasons seems to be because he is going to host another reality show based on social causes very soon and he has no dates for this show.

And guess who is tipped to be replacing Salman? Ranbir Kapoor, yes, you heard right. However, we do not have any confirmation on this, but we will let you know as soon as we have any information on this.

Deepika Padukone wins big, Amitabh and Rekha patch up

Legendary actor Amitabh Bachchan and his wife Jaya Bachchan and Son Abhishek Bachchan

Bollywood’s top actress Deepika Padukone continued with her winning streak, legendary actor Amitabh Bachchan and his wife Jaya Bachchan acknowledged actress Rekha in public after three decades and Ranveer Singh snubbed reporters when asked about his love life on the red carpet. Welcome to 2014 Screen Awards, held in Mumbai on Tuesday evening.
It was a big night for Padukone who took home two Best Actor trophies (popular and jury) for her blockbusters Goliyon Ki Rasleela Ram-Leela and Chennai Express. However, all eyes were on the Bachchan couple who did the unexpected: greet actress Rekha (allegedly Bachchan’s object of affection in his youth) in public. The namaste gesture officially ends their 33-year cold war. Bachchan and his alleged lover in the 1970s had studiously avoided each other at public functionsm while Jaya had made it clear over the years that her conflict with Rekha would remain unresolved. Their last film as a trio was 1981 Silsila — the tale of a married man (Bachchan) and his illicit affair with a woman (Rekha).
Ending feuds diplomatically weren’t the only highlight of this star-studded evening. Padukone’s Ram-Leela co-star and rumoured squeeze Singh lost his cool on the red carpet, with the usually unflappable and exhuberant Singh asking reporters “not to ruin his evening” by asking personal questions about his love life.
While Singh didn’t cut a relaxed figure, Shah Rukh Khan was his cool self as he took home the Best Actor (popular) for his funny act in 2013 blockbuster Chennai Express. The night also belonged to Farhan Akhtar who won the Best Actor (jury) gong for his act in biopic Bhaag Milkha Bhaag.

Leave Huma Qureshi alone: Anurag Kashyap, Kalki Koechlin

After Kalki Koechlin took to Twitter to say that he separation from Anurag Kashyap had nothing to do with Huma Qureshi, the director-producer also said in an interview that the Dedh Ishqiya actor was being "targeted". Huma also issued a statement trashing the rumours.
Bollywood actor Huma Qureshi with director Anurag Kashyap during the screening of film American Hustle in Mumbai on Saturday.

For a while now, rumours have been rife that Anurag Kashyap and Kalki Koechlin’s separation was a result of his closeness to Huma Qureshi.

The buzz got even stronger after Huma and he were spotted hugging at the screening of American Hustle in Mumbai recently.

In an interview Anurag said, "People run only one-sided story and it's very disturbing. Such rumours are not affecting me or Kalki but it is affecting Huma's image. Huma is being targeted."

He also broached the topic of the picture in which he was seen hugging Huma at a film screening. "When we went for the screening, photographers wanted to click us together. I said you guys will click our picture purposely and will run your own story and that's exactly what has happened," he added.

He also announced that he was going to leave Twitter. "I have always maintained distance from media because I read so many fake stories about me. After reading so many stories, even we stopped meeting. I am even going to get out of Twitter," he said.

Huma said in her statement, "For the record, I am friends with both Anurag and Kalki. A few days ago, when Kalki came for the premiere of my movie, we hugged each other warmly. It's surprising that me hugging Kalki doesn't get noticed by people, but when I meet Anurag, we are having an affair?!"

On Tuesday (January 14), she tweeted, "Jesus Christ can we please leave Huma alone?! My problems with Anurag have nothing to do with her!."

No sitting AAP MLA will contest LS polls: Kejriwal

NEW DELHI: Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday said no sitting MLA of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) would contest the general elections in 2014, and also used the occasion to rubbish MLA Vinod Kumar Binny's criticism of the AAP government and its policies.

Addressing the media here, Kejriwal said Binny has been wanting a AAP ticket to contest the Lok Sabha elections as also a ministerial post in the AAP government in Delhi.

"Vinod Kumar Binny had come for a minister's post in December. I denied him that post. Then, he said he will contest the Lok Sabha polls. But the party has decided not to give a Lok Sabha ticket to any sitting MLA," Kejriwal said.

Binny had earlier expressed his unhappiness with the Arvind Kejriwal-led government in Delhi, saying it has failed to deliver on its promises.

According to AAP sources, a notice is likely to be sent him to showcause as to why disciplinary action should not be taken against him.

"The government is not fulfilling the promises we made to the people. There is a large difference between what was said and what is being done. We will hold a press conference on this tomorrow so as to let the people know of our displeasure. These things shouldn't stay behind closed doors," Binny had said.

Binny was reportedly denied a portfolio in the AAP's Delhi cabinet. Binny and AAP had back then downplayed rumours of a rift within the party.

"They may be having a different role for me. My meeting with Kumar Vishwas was a routine meeting. We are not here to become ministers and CM. We are here to serve the country," Binny had said then.

Once a Congress leader, Binny had joined AAP after participating in the Jan Lokpal movement. Binny is now a part of the 9-member political affairs committee of the Aam Aadmi Party.

Danish tourist says was gang-raped in Indian capital – police

NEW DELHI (Reuters) – Police were questioning a group of men on Wednesday after a Danish tourist said she was robbed and then gang-raped in the heart of the Indian capital’s tourist district, putting sexual violence in India further into the spotlight.

Police said the 51-year-old tourist had filed a police complaint of rape in the district of Paharganj, a popular tourist area packed with backpacker hotels and restaurants near New Delhi railway station.

“A robbery and rape case has been registered,” Delhi police spokesman Rajan Bhagat told Reuters. “We are questioning a group of men.”

Danish ambassador Freddy Svane said there “is a case of alleged raped concerning a Danish citizen,” but gave no further details.

The Dane was walking through the area of narrow lanes and dark streets on Tuesday night when she asked two men for directions to her hotel. Five to six more men then appeared and she was raped, according to senior police official Deepak Mishra. She then told her hotel staff of the attack, he said.

The tourist was robbed of her cash, iPad and telephone. She refused a medical examination and has since left India to return to Denmark, police said.

India was convulsed by the murder in December 2012 of a woman who was raped and tortured on a moving bus in New Delhi, forcing the country to confront sexual violence and leading to a tightening of rape laws.

Four men were sentenced to death for the murder and another was found hanged in his prison cell. A sixth, who was under 18 at the time of the attack, was earlier sentenced to three years detention, the maximum allowed under juvenile law.

Thousands of urban Indians took to the streets in fury after the attack. The Indian woman became a symbol of dangers women face in a country where a rape is reported on average every 21 minutes and incidents of molestation are common.

A study by India’s Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry said that foreign tourist visits to India dropped 25 percent in the three months after the rape and murder of the Delhi woman. Tourist visits by women fell by 35 percent.

Youth-centric Yaariyan gives Madhuri's Dedh Ishqiya a run for its money

Dedh Ishqiya might have got a unanimous thumbs-up from critics, but it is Yaariyan that seems to be emerging out as a winner. While Madhuri's comeback venture has garnered Rs. 14.25 cr so far, debutante Divya Khosla Kumar's Yaariyan has collected approx Rs. 22.20 cr.

"Divya Khosla Kumar's Yaariyan on its first Monday made an income of Rs. 3.20 crore at the box office. The film with that has managed to rake in approx Rs. 22.20 crore at the domestic box office," reports trade website Koimoi.com.

Dedh Ishqiya is also doing a decent business, but it is not up to the mark, feel trade analysts.

"Dedh Ishqiya starring Madhuri Dixit Nene, Naseeruddin Shah, Arshad Warsi and Huma Qureshi remained consistent on its first Monday as well as earning Rs. 2.25 crore. The film's total income so far now stands at Rs. 14.25 crore at the domestic box office," reports Koimoi.

"The film picked up, but it is not up to the mark," Rajesh Thadani of Multimedia Combines told IANS.

Many feel that it did not live upto the original, where box office numbers are concerned.
Awful, we know. But something about the most charming language of the subcontinent makes ’em giggle “Ye kya dekh raha hoon main yahaan? Mohtarma, main jannat me aa gaya hoon kya?” Text by Neyaz FarooqueeFrom HT Brunch,

"It has not done as well as Ishqiya. In fact, the other teenage romance Yaariyan is doing better. On Sunday, we had 100 per cent occupancy for Yaariyan and 90-95 per cent for Dedh Ishqiya," said Manoj Desai of Gaiety Galaxy in Mumbai.

However, the film is thriving in the capital and it is expected to do even better in the following week.
"It did very well during the weekend. Today (Monday), it did drop but it will pick up in the evening shows. It will do better in the week as only mature audiences are coming to see the film," said Puneet Sahay of Spice Cinemas.
Meanwhile, celebrities like Aditi Rao Hydari, Mini Mathur and Sandhya Mridul hailed the film and the performances.

Salman flies kite with Modi, refuses to be drawn into endorsing him as next PM

Kavita Awaasthi, Hindustan Times

Actor Salman Khan flew kites with Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi and had lunch with him on Tuesday, but declined to be drawn into endorsing the Bharatiya Janata Party leader as the next prime minister.

“God should decide who is the best man for the country and the best man should be the PM,” Salman said at Ghatlodia in Ahmedabad, with the BJP prime ministerial nominee standing alongside during the annual kite festival organised on Makar Sankranti.

Salman, who in town to promote his film Jai Ho, had accepted an invitation from Modi’s office to participate in the Uttarayan festival, fly kites and have lunch, according to people close to the actor.

Following persistent media queries about whether he backed Modi as the next prime minister, Salman said, “I belong to the film line. I can clearly answer questions on films. On politics, because of my limited knowledge, I will not be able to give clear answers. If I begin answering your questions, I will get trapped.”

Modi tweeted this picture earlier in the day (Source: twitter/narendramodi)

The actor, whose remarks have often set off controversies, refused to be drawn into a fresh one. He had faced massive criticism for his remark that the 26/11 terror attack had got so much attention because the "elite" were targeted.

"Modi Saheb should definitely get whatever is in his destiny, he must. Modi Saheb has brought so much progress to Gujarat," the actor said.

With journalists still not giving up on the prime ministerial question, Salman said, “I am not from Gujarat. I come from Bandra in Mumbai and for me the best candidates are Baba Siddique and Priya Dutt (both Congress). My agreeing or disagreeing will not matter much.

"For you Modi Saheb is the best man and for me it is Baba Siddique and Priya Dutt. May the best win.”

With the crowd chanting “Modi! Modi”, Salman said, "I like him very much. He is a great man, he is doing a lot for the state. I wish Modi Saheb all the best in his life.”

Box office: 'Yaariyan' outshines 'Dedh Ishqiya' in opening weekend

Youth power rules at the box office. 'Yaariyan' races past 'Dedh Ishqiya'
By Aparajita Ghosh
Box office: 'Yaariyan' outshines 'Dedh Ishqiya' in opening weekend
Dedh Ishqiya picked up after a slow start but couldn’t catch up with Yaariyan at the box office in the opening weekend.

Dedh Ishqiya has sent the critics into raptures but couldn’t manage to pull in the crowd to match that euphoria. The film made a measly Rs. 3.50 crore on Friday and added another Rs. 8.5 crores on Saturday and Sunday to notch Rs. 12 crore in its opening weekend. The figure is clearly below the mark, but since the positive word of mouth ensured better footfalls on Sunday, it remains to be seen if the momentum continues into the week as well.

Movie Review: ‘Dedh Ishqiya’ is no great shakes

The surprise of the weekend came from Yaariyan, which has been unanimously panned by the critics but took a flying start at the box office. The film starring mostly newcomers has clicked with the youth. Its opening weekend collection stands at Rs. 19.2 crore net.

It’s a very good figure for a film that’s been made on a budget of Rs. 9 crore and addition publicity cost of Rs. 10 crore, a good chunk of which has already been recovered from satellite and music rights. Which means Yaariyan is definitely a profitable venture.

The next big release would be Jai Ho on January 24.

'Yaariyan' is for the young at heart

Leonardo DiCaprio said: "Mr Bachchan impressed me immensely by not just his talent and his ability to act, but what a gentleman he was."

After Baz Luhrmann’s ‘The Great Gatsby’, Hollywood heartthrob Leonardo DiCaprio wants to work with Bollywood mega star Amitabh Bachchan again. The film was an adaptation of F Scott Fitzgerald’s novel of the same name. DiCaprio played the protagonist Jay Gatsby, while 71-year-old Bachchan donned the role of his friend Meyer Wolfsheim, a gambler in a cameo. “Mr Bachchan impressed me immensely by not just his talent and his ability to act, but what a gentleman he was. I was honoured to work with him. It was great seeing that enthusiasm he brings to even the smallest of roles and I would love to work with him in the future,” DiCaprio said in a statement. Amitabh Bachchan and DiCaprio shared mutual admiration during the shoot and also during the promotion of the movie. The duo together inaugurated the Cannes Film Festival last year, where ‘The Great Gatsby’ was the opening film. DiCaprio, 39, latest release is ‘The Wolf of Wall Street’ for which he won the Golden Globe for the best actor.

Comedian Kapil Sharma in deep trouble

Daliya Ghose

It seems time is not in favor of comedian and producer Kapil Sharma who runs the show ‘Comedy Nights With Kapil’. Earlier he was in trouble as one of the most popular characters of the show ‘Gutthi’ left the show over payment terms. No sooner Kapil learnt to run the show without ‘Gutthi’ that he has again found himself in a soup after cracking a joke about ‘pregnant woman’.

Kapil has attracted wrath from activists and social workers for cracking a joke on pregnant women. Kapil has received a notice from The Maharashtra State Women’s Commission. A notice has also been issued for the channel on which the show is run. The Maharashtra State Women’s Commission has asked for an explanation and has also summoned them for a hearing.

During one of the recent episodes of ‘Comedy Nights With Kapil’ which was aired on 5th January, Kapil cracked a joke about pregnant woman delivering a baby on potholed road while commuting. The joke was not received in the right spirit and was considered insulting and derogatory by women activists.

The two NGOs viz. Bhartiya Muslim Mahila Andolan and Kaydeshir Wagne on Tuesday lodged a complaint with the Maharashtra State Women’s Commission. They demanded a legal action on the comedian and the channel. “We have sent the producers a legal notice demanding an explanation. They are expected to reply within 15 days”, said Susiben Shah, chairperson of the commission. Apart from the joke on pregnant woman, the activist groups also objected the portrayal of two women characters on the show.

Susiben Shah further said, “The two characters of ‘daadi’ and ‘bua’ were also found to be objectionable. The ‘daadi’ is shown drunk. That is not how our ‘daadis’ are.”

Several TV actors have also voiced their opinion on the joke cracked by Kapil. Kanika Maheshwari from ‘Diya Aur Baati Hum’ doesn’t find it humorous. She said, “Many times, such jokes are hurtful. Once, on ‘Nach Baliye’, Bharti Singh (stand-up comic) had compared Bruna Abudullah (actor) and her boyfriend Omar Farooque to a rikshawala who got the keys to a Mercedes. Though people laughed on the sets, I felt it wasn’t in good taste.”

On the other hand, a fan of the show, Ira Shah, a 19 years old student said, “I have read about incidents where people have delivered in an auto or a train, so what’s the big deal about this joke?”

Old Hollywood shimmer meets youthful colour and embellishment on the Golden Globes red carpet

NEW YORK, N.Y. - Lupita Nyong'o wowed in a sexy, caped red silk strapless gown from Ralph Lauren and Lena Dunham showed up Sunday night in form-fitting canary yellow — tattoos out — for the Golden Globes, one of Hollywood's biggest fashion fests.

Kerry Washington complemented her baby bump in a sleeveless white gown with a low neck and jacket-like top from Balenciaga.

"I also feel like I have the best date of the night, my little accessory here," she told E! Entertainment dressed in a signature colour for her Olivia Pope on "Scandal."

Also in white was Jennifer Lawrence. She chose Dior, with two tiers on a full skirt cinched at the waist and below by black trim. Julia Roberts wore a black gown topped by a white, button-down collar shirtwaist look from Dolce & Gabbana.

"It's a very interesting intersection of eveningwear and daywear, but one that you have to be her to wear," stylist Robert Verdi said.

Hal Rubenstein, editor-at-large of InStyle magazine, gushed about Nyong'o's column dress and overall look, especially for an actress virtually unknown until her appearance as Patsey in "12 Years a Slave."

"The colour was extraordinary against her skin. There was something so regal about that dress. She didn't muck it up with tons of jewelry, and the boyish hair made it look even cooler," he said.

Early arrivals included Zooey Deschanel in a gold ballet-skirted Oscar de la Renta with a youthful, boxy cropped top and vintage Neil Lane earrings. Other stars and nominees went for older Hollywood shimmer in slinky gold, silver and Champagne.

Cate Blanchett provided a Katharine Hepburn moment in Armani with high lace at the neck and a how-low-can-you-go back, along with Chopard earrings.

Amy Poehler picked three custom gowns from Stella McCartney, including a slinky black halter look, while her co-host for the awards season opener, Tina Fey, went for a fuller, strapless red and black from Carolina Herrera as her first look.

Amy Adams wore two shades of red in a backless high-waisted halter dress with a plunging neckline to the waist by Valentino. It evoked her risque-dressing '70s character in "American Hustle."

Dunham, yanking at the top of her Zac Posen gown as she waited for her turn on the red carpet, joked about eating and the awards season as she practiced her diva poses. "I actually ate a thick patty of hamburger before I came, like a cave woman," she joked to E!

More subdued was Elisabeth Moss in an embellished Bordeaux and black, short-sleeve gown from J. Mendel, her choice from about five she considered.

Tom Ford was Hayden Panettiere's choice — a black-and-white halter with a high side slit.

"I'd wear a plastic bag if it was designed by him," she said on E!

This year's red carpet had some bold colour thanks to Reese Witherspoon in bluish turquoise from the Calvin Klein Collection and a pregnant Olivia Wilde in emerald Gucci. Also pregnant, Drew Barrymore was pretty at the podium in a gown with a sheer overlay adorned with red and pink embellishments.

Helen Mirren wore a lighter shade of green, a bespoke jade tulle and chiffon gown with a draped waist and an orchid-flower design from Jenny Packham.

Diane Keaton, honouring Woody Allen during the live broadcast, took to the podium in a Ralph Lauren custom black wool tuxedo and ultra-wide men's tie. And Paula Patton, a presenter, raised an eyebrow or two in a huge ruffle along one side of her white, form-revealing gown.

Sandra Bullock was pink on top, black in the middle and sky blue at the hem of a full-skirted gown by Prabal Gurung.

The red carpet had a few "Gone With the Wind" moments, Verdi said, with princess looks that could have easily worn their recipients rather than the other way around.

He counted Fey's Herrera in black with a red floral motif and Sofia Vergara's Zac Posen among them. Vergara, with huge statement blue Lorraine Schwartz jewels around her neck, might agree.

"I feel like I'm carrying a tent," she told E! "I think I'm smuggling Colombians underneath this dress."

Popular TV show, 'Pavitra Rishta' to go off air soon!

Popular TV show, 'Pavitra Rishta' to go off air soon!
Mumbai:  After a run of over four years on the small screen, "Pavitra Rishta", which is dragging now, is likely to go off the air soon.

Ekta Kapoor's Balaji Telefilms produced the show and it will be replaced by another show by the same banner, said a source.

"Nothing has been decided yet but the show ('Pavitra Rishta') might go off air soon. Though nothing is fixed yet it might be replaced by another show by Ekta Kapoor," the source told IANS.

"Pavitra Rishta" went on air in 2009 with Ankita Lokhande and Sushant Singh Rajput as the lead pair and it was well received by the viewers thanks to the content.

But since Sushant's exit from the show in 2011 to fulfill his big screen dreams, the viewership has plummeted. Even getting popular actor Hiten Tejwani on board did not help it much.

The show took many leaps but instead of creating curiosity it disappointed the audience and the viewership dipped.

Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif caught in a lovers' tiff?

India Today Online  New Delhi,

While Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh just came back from New York City after spending some (romantic) moments with one another, another much-talked-about Bollywood couple seems to have hit a patch of gravel.

According to reports, Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif who still won't admit they're dating each other, had a disagreement of sorts during their stay in Bollywood's present love destination: New York.

Rumours have it while Katrina wants to focus on her career, she also wants commitment from alleged beau Ranbir. Ranbir, on the other hand, seems to be holding back.

Cue reference: Koffee with Karan's episode featuring him and cousin Kareena Kapoor. While a chatty Kareena went as far as openly calling Katrina her 'bhabhi', Ranbir simply smiled and plain refused to 'admit' to anything.

Did that get to Katrina? While she may have joked about the episode later calling it a light moments between cousins, we can't help but sense it only made her think about it all the more.

The two will reportedly star together in Jagga Jasoos soon. Let's hope matters are resolved soon.

By BusinessofCinema News Network

There has been too much written about the Saifai Mahotsav and finally Salman Khan has taken on twitter to make his stand clear.

The latest star kid to have made her mark in Bollywood, Alia Bhatt, has also been under fire for performing at the Saifai Mahotsav, following which her father Mahesh Bhatt issued an apology. However, our Superstar Khan, who was also amongst the performers, says the filmmaker needn’t be apologetic about his daughter’s upbringing.

Salman wrote on twitter, “Bhatt Saab, no need for an apology, Alia’s upbringing is great. I was proud to share the stage with her. She earns her living with hard work and dignity.”

Mahesh Bhatt had apologized for letting Alia perform at the Saifai Mahotsav organized by Samajwadi Party chief and former Uttar Pradesh chief minister Mulayam Singh Yadav.

Alia’s sister, actress Pooja Bhatt also took to her father’s defense and said that he had not failed as a father. “Mahesh Bhatt, you have not failed as a father. Alia needs representation that has a far more sensitized and astute world view. End of story,” Pooja wrote on twitter.

Salman even took to Facebook to explain that the money that he earned from the event has been directed towards a noble cause.

His Facebook Page Read:

“Whenever I visit a place for a performance or a promotion, I see it as an opportunity to help the locals in the areas of healthcare or education. In Nagpur, on Sunday, Being Human pledged to fund hundred pediatric cardiac cases in Maharashtra State.

In Etawah, Being Human, on behalf of all artists who performed yesterday, has committed to fund two hundred pediatric heart surgeries in UP (there is already a wait list of eight one children we have received who are being moved to Fortis Hospital Gurgaon and their surgeries will get done by month end and Being Human is in touch with local NGOs and hospitals for their lists also).
