Youth-centric Yaariyan gives Madhuri's Dedh Ishqiya a run for its money

Dedh Ishqiya might have got a unanimous thumbs-up from critics, but it is Yaariyan that seems to be emerging out as a winner. While Madhuri's comeback venture has garnered Rs. 14.25 cr so far, debutante Divya Khosla Kumar's Yaariyan has collected approx Rs. 22.20 cr.

"Divya Khosla Kumar's Yaariyan on its first Monday made an income of Rs. 3.20 crore at the box office. The film with that has managed to rake in approx Rs. 22.20 crore at the domestic box office," reports trade website Koimoi.com.

Dedh Ishqiya is also doing a decent business, but it is not up to the mark, feel trade analysts.

"Dedh Ishqiya starring Madhuri Dixit Nene, Naseeruddin Shah, Arshad Warsi and Huma Qureshi remained consistent on its first Monday as well as earning Rs. 2.25 crore. The film's total income so far now stands at Rs. 14.25 crore at the domestic box office," reports Koimoi.

"The film picked up, but it is not up to the mark," Rajesh Thadani of Multimedia Combines told IANS.

Many feel that it did not live upto the original, where box office numbers are concerned.
Awful, we know. But something about the most charming language of the subcontinent makes ’em giggle “Ye kya dekh raha hoon main yahaan? Mohtarma, main jannat me aa gaya hoon kya?” Text by Neyaz FarooqueeFrom HT Brunch,

"It has not done as well as Ishqiya. In fact, the other teenage romance Yaariyan is doing better. On Sunday, we had 100 per cent occupancy for Yaariyan and 90-95 per cent for Dedh Ishqiya," said Manoj Desai of Gaiety Galaxy in Mumbai.

However, the film is thriving in the capital and it is expected to do even better in the following week.
"It did very well during the weekend. Today (Monday), it did drop but it will pick up in the evening shows. It will do better in the week as only mature audiences are coming to see the film," said Puneet Sahay of Spice Cinemas.
Meanwhile, celebrities like Aditi Rao Hydari, Mini Mathur and Sandhya Mridul hailed the film and the performances.
