When it comes to his main female lead of the film, Barbara Mori, Anurag is more than excited to get into details. As per the writer-director, despite the film having a heavy weight presence of Hrithik Roshan, Barbara would leave a huge mark.
"Barbara is very important to the film. That has to be the case because in any case, I always see a story from a woman's point of view", reasons Anurag whose first big hit was MURDER, a film which was the story of a female protagonist played by Mallika Sherawat, "You pick up any of my films and you would always see that. This is why Barbara's character also comes out very strongly. Today when I look back, I can't fathom who else could have played this part if not her?"
Narrating an interesting anecdote, Anurag gets into a nostalgic mood here.
"I remember the time when I was narrating the script to Barbara. It turned out to be a rather long narration because none of us could actually follow each other too well. My English comes with a Hindi accent while Barbara speaks primarily in Spanish. We had to indulge into a lot of hand movements to make each other understand what we were trying to say", remembers Basu.
"As I proceeded into the narration, I realized that it was all working out so very well actually", he continues, "After all, this is what KITES is about - two lovers who find means to communicate with each other when language is a barrier. I just started hoping that she say 'yes' after the narration and I was elated when she actually did. No one could have been better than Barbara. Period."
Also starring Kangna Ranaut, KITES releases all over on 21st May.
