HYDERABAD: Poet and lyricist Veturi Sundararama Murthy, who combined sensuality and classicism to the delight of purists and popular audiences alike, died of a heart attack at a hospital here this evening. Survived by his wife and three sons, he was remembered with affection and admiration by countless film personalities.
Born into a famous family of scholars and poets at Kollur village in Guntur district on Jan. 29, 1936, he grew to be a poet of stunning virtuosity, whose beautiful turns of phrase laced with mischievous sensuality lent themselves to Telugu film music like few of his peers. While his work in films won him great popularity, and made him the lyricist of choice for a whole generation, his more serious work won him theadmiration of peers. His funeral will take place here in the city on Sunday.
