Aishwarya Rai pregnant again?

New Delhi: When world`s most beautiful woman makes news, you certainly stop to read. Well, yes you guessed it right, we are talking about none other than Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. If a recent report in a leading daily is to be believed then it might be a good news for the Bachchan household. The buzz is that Ash is pregnant for the second time, which is why the actress is taking this long to shed her extra kilos.

Meanwhile, it had been earlier reported that Ash would make her comeback on screen in a Mani Ratnam film which will be made in Tamil. However, her second pregnancy rumours might not be the best thing for the makers of this dream project.

Also, Aishwarya`s close friend and noted ad filmmaker Prahlad Kakkar`s `Happy Anniversary` made headlines recently with its casting coup. The rumour has it that Kakkar is planning to rope in Sushmita Sen and Aishwarya for the same film. With such a bumper casting in mind, we wonder how Ash will manage if the pregnancy rumours stand true.

Incidentally, the last time when Ash was pregnant, it had cost her Madhur Bhandarkar`s `Heroine` which later went to Kareena Kapoor Khan.

Aishwarya and Abhishek got married in 2007 and recently celebrated seven years of togetherness. The couple is blessed with a baby girl named Aaradhya.

Govinda: I will ask my wife before doing a sex comedy

Govinda attends an interview as a part of the IIFA festivities
Bollywood actor Govinda has nothing against sex comedies which are a trend in tinsel town nowadays. Whether he will be part of such a project or not is a decision he would want to consult his wife for.

Asked about his take on sex comedies, Govinda said here: "I feel whatever gives business, somewhere it is right. Something which is accepted by everybody cannot be wrong. Whichever comedy it might be, I think comedy is comedy."

Is he open to sex comedies?

Pat came the reply: Well I will have to ask Sunita (my wife) about that.

While Govinda seems to be embracing the new twist to comedy films in the Hindi movie world he is also happy about young and new talent in the industry.

"Ranveer, Varun, everybody is doing well. These youngsters are working hard. We have never worked so hard. In our times, we were only actors. We were not body builders," Govinda said.

"The youngsters are great, they are fantastic. May god bless them," he added. (Also read: Varun says comparisons with Govinda unfair)

Govinda is here to attend the International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) Weekend and Awards with his wife Sunita in tow.

Accolades Revolve Around ‘Revolver Rani’

Bollywood’s latest “Revolver Rani,” or Revolver Queen looks like it was inspired by Quentin Tarantino’s 2003 hit “Kill Bill.”

The movie stars Kangana Ranaut in the lead role as Alka, a trigger-happy politician who is inducted to the world of crime her uncle Bali (actor Piyush Mishra). One revenge begets another when Alka kills to avenge her father’s death.

Here is what critics had to say about the film:

In a review on NDTV, movie critic Saibal Chatterjee said ‘Revolver Rani’ was “uproariously funny and deeply disturbing.”

Mr. Chatterjee was impressed with Ms. Ranaut’s performance: “Kangana lends a crackling and corrosively sharp edge to the central character of a tough-as-nails woman in a mug’s game.”

He gave the movie three-and-half-hour stars out of five.

Writing for the Rediff website Paloma Sharma said she was disappointed with the movie. “Revolver Rani could have been the film of the year. It is sad that it chose to be a confused story instead,” she said.

The narrative was incoherent as it progressed. The focus of the movie shifted from Ms. Ranaut’s Alka to other characters in the movie. “The story disappears and so does the editor, or so it seems,” Ms. Sharma said.

Ms. Sharma  gave the movie two-and-a-half stars out of five.

Tanushree Bhasin of Firstpost appreciated the film but said it had its share of problems.

When the script takes a turn from gangs and guns to babies in the second half, the movie “smacks of sexism,” for judging the character’s “sexual independence,” Ms. Bhasin said.

The film was a “half-hearted attempt to make a hero out of a heroine,” Ms. Bhasin concluded.

Shubha Shetty-Sahaj of Mid-Day said the film started with a promise of quirkiness and black humor that “fits well with the subject in hand.”

Ms. Shetty-Sahaj had words of praise for the director, Sai Kaibeer and the depiction of day-to-day life in the Chambal valley.

She also noted Ms. Ranaut’s performance. “The capable actress portrays this offbeat role of a violent, passionate but vulnerable dacoit with commendable ease,” she writes.

She gave the movie three stars out of five.

Bollywood actor Inder Kumar has reportedly been arrested on Friday for alleged rape of a 22 year old woman in Mumbai.

The actor who made his debut with the 1996 movie, `Masoom`, faces charges of rape on the pretext of getting the woman roles in Bollywood.

According to reports, Kumar supposedly misguided the aspiring model and offered her roles in movies, as well as asked her to move in with her in a flat.

The case has been filed at Versova, Mumbai, and the actor was arrested today. The report also said that after a domestic squabble, Inder Kumar`s wife, Pallavi, filed a report at the police station as she suspected that Inder Kumar was also having an illicit affair.

Inder Kumar reached the police station and sorted out the issue with his wife and both returned home, police said.

"After that, the victim was called to the actor`s residence to clarify things. However, the situation went out of control and the accused thrashed the victim with a beer bottle," Harishachandra Parmale, senior inspector at the police station, said.

Inder Kumar has been booked under sections 376 (Rape), 324 (causing grevious hurt) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), the police said to a leading daily.

Movie review: After Kaanchi, Ghai should consider taking retirement

Okay, let’s face it: Subhash Ghai has never really been a ‘good’ filmmaker in the classical sense. His movies are and have always been bombastic, jingoistic and unsubtle. Yet, through nearly four decades, the ‘showman’ of Bollywood has been lauded for his entertaining brand of cinema which, if nothing else, at least featured iconic music and exciting acting discoveries. Thanks to his obsession with the letter ‘M’, Ghai is famous for having given breaks to actresses such as Meenakshi Sheshadri, Madhuri Dixit and Manisha Koirala, amongst others. His latest muse follows this trend: Mishti Mukherjee (real name Indrani Chakraborty) is the central showpiece of Kaanchi: The Unbreakable, his first film in six years since Yuvraaj (2008). Described in interviews as a tale of ‘women empowerment’, Mishti plays the eponymous character who, after witnessing the murder of her best friend and fiancé Binda (Kartik Aryan), decides to take on the might of the politically powerful Kakda family, headed by politician Shyam Kakda (Mithun Chakraborty).

Courtesy: Facebook

Kaanchi: The Unbreakable has good intentions and that’s about the only positive thing that can be said about this amateurish, infantile disaster. This is the kind of movie where characters look into the camera and wink, to indicate to the audience that what is about to follow is a joke. It’s the kind of movie where one character says something to the effect of “You know how dangerous I can be” to another, with the straightest of faces. It’s the kind of film that seems to have been put together to give students from Whistling Woods International, Ghai’s Mumbai-based film school, a chance to exercise the skills they just learned in the classroom. At this point, I can already see the comments below exhorting me, as they do week after week, to “calm down; what were you expecting?” or “go back to the US, you jealous failed rock band rookie” (fun fact: I have never, ever been to the US). But come on, surely, there needs to be a minimum expectation that we’re allowed to have from filmmakers in 2014, for heaven’s sake? In a year that has already seen superior films such as Dedh Ishqiya, Highway, Queen and Aankhon Dekhi, Ghai directs this film as though it’s still 1991, complete with a raucous background score that has been mixed so badly, it ensures you have a headache by the interval. Set in the fictional hamlet of Koshampa in Uttaranchal, the first half of the film depicts Kaanchi as a headstrong, annoyingly-cutesy girl who attracts the attention of Sushant Kakda (TV actor Rishabh Sinha), who is Shyam’s son. Goaded by his sleazy uncle (played enthusiastically by Rishi Kapoor), Sushant finds himself at loggerheads with Binda, who is Kaanchi’s best friend and eventual love interest. Soon enough, Binda is run over off a cliff by Sushant’s car, in a scene which shows how Ghai thinks that wire stunts can and should only be used as homages to Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. A distraught Mishti commits ‘suicide’ by jumping into a river, but in reality, swims past four villages, arrives at Dehradun and makes her way to Mumbai to plot her revenge. There, she tracks down a long-lost friend, Ratanlal Bagula (Chandan Roy Sanyal), who is now a sub-inspector. As the film moves towards its increasingly predictable and melodramatic ending, it incorporates a laughably half-baked ‘India Against Corruption’ angle, featuring a visibly embarrassed Mita Vashisht. Aside from terrible, expository dialogue, Kaanchi: The Unbreakable features borderline unbearable acting from nearly everyone, barring veterans such as Kapoor and Chakraborty. Mishti, possessor of a ‘nails on blackboard’ shriek, is the kind of pretty-looking debutante who has mistaken acting for school-level elocution. While her face and the setting may remind one of Aishwarya Rai from Ghai’s Taal (1999), Kaanchi cannot even be compared to that due to the lack of a single memorable song. The music by Salim-Sulaiman and Ismail Darbar is downright forgettable (also, that ‘Kambal Ke Neeche’ song is the most cringe-worthy thing I’ve seen on screen this year). This is a vapid filmmaking exercise, done simply for the sake of launching a new heroine and executed by pulling favours from old friends and junior associates. It’s an example of the kind of cinema that Bollywood needs to leave behind as soon as possible if it wants to appeal to a younger, smarter audience. It may be time for Ghai to hang up his boots before he destroys what remains of his legacy any further, and let his students take over. Surely they can’t do a worse job than this?

Ranbir Kapoor, Katrina Kaif to live in together

The duo might have been tight-lipped about their relationship but their action spoke many secret about their hidden relationship than words. The couple who is head over heel in love with one another is said to be in hunt of a love next to move in together.

Like Soha Ali Khan-Kunal Khemu, Kareena Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan (before marriage), Ranbir and Katrina are also planning to live in together away from their family’s interference and sight. As per report, Ranbir Kapoor is desperately hunting for a new residence so that he can move in with his ladylove. Ranbir is not planning to move out of Krishna Raj where he was staying with his parents Neetu and Rishi Kapoor to lead an individual life with Kat.

Mid-Day quoted a source saying, "Katrina has been wanting to buy a house for quite some time now and now that she is in a steady relationship with Ranbir Kapoor, they have decided to look for a place of their own."

The actor is looking out for apartments in Bandra and Juhu and has spoken to few agents and builders as well.

A close source to the actor says, “Ranbir is looking for a big apartment which should be located in Bandra and Juhu”. Ranbir has shortlisted few houses and will personally visit and check out all the apartments because he wants to finalise one soon adds the source.”

Ever since they started dating, Katrina very often visits Krishna Raj to spend quality time with the actor but it is heard that Rishi Kapoor is not too happy with Kat’s frequent visit to their residence.

An insider reveals, “Incidentally,it was Rishi’s comment about Ranbir ‘s alleged girlfriend (Katrina Kaif) visiting their bungalow frequently that urged the actor to take a big step to move out.  “Since his father doesn’t approve of Katrina coming to their house so regularly. So the Kapoor boy thought it would be best for him to find a new place so that everyone’s privacy should be respected”.

It is rumoured that the lovebirds got engaged and they are contemplating marriage but both Ranbir and Katrina denied the report. When asked about marriage, Katrina said, "If there is something like that happening, I will be the first one to tell you all about it. But, there are no such plans as yet," she said.

After spending quality time in Sri Lanka, the duo was recently spotted partying at fashion designer Nandita Mehtani's place along with other industry figures and socialites.

The coupe patched up after a small lovers tiff which took place during New Year and now they are shooting together for ‘Jagga Jasoos’.

Florida-based travel agent sues IIFA for 7 million dollars

A Florida-based travel company owner has sued IIFA organisers for breach of trust

A Florida-based travel company owner has sued IIFA organisers for for 7 million dollars alleging breach of trust.

Company owner Akarsh Kolaprath has filed a lawsuit against Wizcraft, the organisers of the 15th International Indian Film Academy Awards after the company decided to do their own bookings and arrangements.

Kolaprath claims that about three years ago, Andre Timmins and Viraf Sarkari of Wizcraft finalised a deal through his family company, 7M tours, according to which he was supposed to co-ordinate finances and make arrangements for the event in the US.

Wizcraft reportedly promised him 3 percent of the entire profit to Kolaprath, for his services.

However, the event organisers have apparently decided to make arrangement on their own.

Kolaprath who claims, spent around 2,65,000 US dollars on the arrangements, has sued Wizcraft for 7 million dollars, aborting the deal midway.

Kolaprath in his claims, also mentions a loss of more than 400,000 US dollars in hotel cancellation fees and wants stay on the event till the matter is settled.

Talking to a leading tabloid, Kolaprath said, "This has affected us very badly; we have been working on the whole thing. I was the one who introduced them (Wizcraft) to the sponsors.

But suddenly after we had done all the arrangements, we got to know that they were dealing directly with the sponsors and wanted me out of the picture. Their intention is not right."

However, an official statement on behalf of Wizcraft and IIFA claims, 'The claims made by Akarsh/7M tours are false and frivolous. It is a concocted story lacking any substance. Since the matter is sub judice, we shall respond to these claims appropriately before the court.'

Deepika has shared screen space with Akshay in "Chandni Chowk To China", "Housefull" and "Desi Boyz."

I’ve zero interest in acting in non-Hindi films, says Kareena

The B-town style icon, Kareena Kapoor, strongly denied doing a raunchy Tamil song with Tamil superstar Suriya in a Tamil film titled ‘Anjaan’.

A visibly furious Kareena retorted at some media persons saying, “I don’t know where such baseless stories come from. I haven’t signed any such film. I don’t even know who Suriya and Linguswamy are. I’ve never seen them. I’ve zero interest in acting in non-Hindi films whether it is down South or in Hollywood.”

The actress reportedly also said that she does not believe in being part of films whose language she did not understand. “How can I emote in a language that I don’t know? I was offered beautiful scripts by the late Rituparno Ghosh in Bengali. I never could bring myself to work with this brilliant filmmaker because of the language barrier, and now he is gone.”

Kareena also said that she had rejected a number of big South Indian films throughout her career. “I love the work being done in South Indian languages, Marathi and Bengali. But I’ll have to learn these languages to act in them.”

The real story behind the rumour seems to be an April 1 prank. Apparently a news portal had written a story related to Kareena Kapoor doing an item number in ‘Anjaan’ — an April Fools’ story — that was misinterpreted by some websites and some leading publications, without even checking, reported the news, too. This displeased the star who does not believe in working in a language that she did not understand.

After making her acting debut in the 2000 war drama ‘Refugee’, Kareena became known as a leading actress of Hindi cinema following her performances in films such as the historical drama ‘Asoka’ and the blockbuster movie ‘Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham’. After this she starred in a series of commercial failures for which she received negative reviews.

In 2004, her role of a sex worker in ‘Chameli’, against the type cast, marked the turning point of her career.

After this she earned wide recognitions for her roles in the 2004 drama ‘Dev’ and the 2006 crime film ‘Omkara’.

In 2007, she received the Filmfare Award for Best Actress for her performance in the romantic comedy ‘Jab We Met’.

Kareena has also appeared in movies such as — ‘3 Idiots’ in 2009, the 2010 comedy ‘Golmaal 3’, ‘Bodyguard’ in 2011 and ‘Ra.One’ also 2011.

Has Nargis Fakhri caught Arjun Kapoor’s fancy?

Has Nargis Fakhri caught Arjun Kapoor’s fancy?

After Alia Bhatt’s early exit from a party held at Ekta Kapoor’s house recently, the Gunday actor set his eyes on Nargis and even shook his booty with the babe. Has Arjun Kapoor moved over Alia Bhatt?
Arjun Kapoor might have been denying the special bond he has with his 2 States co-actor Alia Bhatt, but we know for sure that there can’t be smoke without fire. Gossip mills are abuzz with the rumour that suggest ever-glowing flames burning between Alia and Arjun. But a recent a bash held at producer Ekta Kapoor’s house might reveal a kahaani mein interesting twist! Looks like Arjun is bored with his link-up with Alia and desperately wants to shift his focus to something more concrete. The 28-year-old therefore has now shifted his gaze to Nargis Fakhri, and our secret birdies spotted Arjun having a good time with the Rockstar babe not just at the gathering but even on the dance floor.

Riding high on the success of Ragini MMS 2 and Main Tera Hero, television mogul Ekta Kapoor threw a special bash at her palatial house in Juhu. Amongst many invitees from B-town were Arjun and Alia. In fact, the two came to the do hand-in-hand. After sometime, our secret khabroo who kept his eye on the jodi told us that Alia decided to leave the party early. She left her “good friend’ Arjun oh-so-alone at the party that the lad then decided to use his ‘Alia-free’ time to gel with Nargis Fakhiri. The onlookers tell that the two were seen bonding big time and even set the dance floor on fire-matching and co-coordinating each others steamy dance moves and even perfected their steps together.

We hope the energy the two created on the dance floor was not extended beyond the party hours, for if Alia gets to know about this episode(read escapade) there will be some explosions one might be subjected to. Arjun who is waiting for the release of 2 States certainly can’t afford to face that heat for sure, not now-at least! Or is it an “open relationship”, oops friendship that this duo Shares?

Bhootnath Returns: Return of the friendly ghost

It is a feel-good film that doesn’t make the villain give up easily.

More than just a fantasy for children, director Nitesh Tiwari has reimagined Bhootnath franchise as a socio-political satire, which entertains and provokes at the same time. Of course kids are central to the story but the treatment is not childlike. In the election season, Tiwari underlines the value of vote without going didactic for the most part.

Embarrassed with his situation in the afterlife Bhootnath (Amitabh Bachchan) is sent back to earth to redeem himself as a ghost. Here again he faces a kid called Akhrot (Parth) who could see him and is not afraid of him. A street urchin, he lives in Dharavi and peddles poverty porn to the foreign tourists. With Bhootnath’s help Akhrot clears some prized real estate off its haunted tag and we get to indulge in witty repartees between the boy and the baba. However, the tables are turned when the bigger evil comes in the way in the form of local politician Bhau (Boman Irani). Pushed by Akhrot and lack of development all around, Bhootnath decides to take on Bhau in the Lok Sabha election. It spirals a wave of events that are hilarious and disturbing at the same time. The turn of events is best described by Bhootnath’s lawyer friend (Sanjay Mishra) when he says “Sir aap to mazaak mazaak main serious ho gaye”.

Howsoever corrupt and influential a politician might be, the fight between a man and a ghost seems unequal. But with a masterstroke, Nitesh takes away the powers of Bhootnath making it not only a level-playing field but also underlines our inherent fear that standing against a seasoned politician is no cakewalk at the hustings. It is a feel-good film that doesn’t make the villain give up easily.

The fantasy is not foolproof, like we never get to know why the bhoots residing in haunted places could not take the revenge from their tormentors in the outside world but the levity in the screenplay is so consistent and sharp that you don’t really mind the small potholes that come along the way. Also, the fact that a friendly spirit is fighting the election is presented as a metaphor for our inability to participate in the biggest festival of democracy makes you believe. When Bhootnath says ‘for a secure future, the past has to play its role well’, it rings a bell. Nitesh has humanised his characters. So if Bhootnath has stage fright, Akhrot lives upto his name. Similarly, the normalcy in the fantasised Bhootworld makes you suspend disbelief.

It does get preachy towards the end and starts sounding like a public service advertisement of the Election Commission, but by then we have had enough fun to actually mind it. Bachchan is once again the centre of attraction here and despite being a ghost, he or his voice is present in almost every frame of the film. The superstar goes for exaggerated expressions at times, but Nitesh justifies his intention early that he is out to arouse the masses. And who knows the art better than Bachchan, who continues to address and entertain three generations at a time. Boman is adept at blending satire with sinister and here again he comes across as a believable monster.

Akhrot’s character is a reflection of the new age child, who is confident and is not overawed by the presence of a ghost around him. For once a child actor is not trying to be cute as the character is drawn from life and not a Bollywood stereotype. Parth stands his ground in front of Bachchan. Nitesh, who co-directed Chillar Party, has given him more punchlines than Bachchan and the boy justifies the faith reposed in him. He is the most natural creature in the supernatural space. It is he who actually drives this fantastic ride with Bachchan looming large as pillion passenger.

Genre: Fantasy/ Satire

Cast: Amitabh Bachchan, Parth, Boman Irani, Sanjay Mishra, Bijendra Kala

Plot: The friendly ghost returns to cast a spell on a politician but finds him more manipulative than he could imagine.

Bottomline: A feel good family entertainer that deserves a chance.

It's become a circus, it's obnoxious: Sonam Kapoor on elections

"Women need to be smart about themselves. Nobody is going to empower them," Sonam told IANS in an interview, responding to a query whether things will change for women in India in terms of safety and equality post-election.
"If we want change, we need to be the change. We can't expect to talk about it and do nothing about it," added the actress, who is the daughter of well-known actor-filmmaker Anil Kapoor.
The election will involve 814 million voters, who are hoping to see positive change in the country after the polls, but the 28-year-old, tagged as the Bollywood's style diva, begs to differ.

It's become a circus, it's obnoxious: Sonam Kapoor on elections
"If we want change, we need to be the change. We can't expect to talk about it and do nothing about it," said Sonam.

Known for her candour, she feels that in the battle of the ballot, there is no place for "dignity".
"Being extremely honest, I want to be optimistic about it (politics), but I am going to be realistic about it. I think changes will come very slowly. I hate to be not diplomatic, but that's what it is. That's how our country is working right now," she said.
"Who do we vote for? Who do we speak to? It's become a circus. It's obnoxious. The kind of fight that is happening in the political arena, I think it's dirty... there is no dignity left to it," said the actress.
A staggering 100 million first-time voters would be casting their ballot in the April-May polls, whose results would be declared May 16.
In the last few years crime against women has been on the rise and voters are hoping for a constructive change in this regard.
"Forget women, looking at the larger picture, if this is how they are going to fight, it's mud-slinging and it's extremely immature. It is like high school election. It's very silly," she said.
However, she feels "if more people will vote, may be slowly and steadily there will be a change".
In terms of equality, actresses are not on a par with their male counterparts when it comes to remuneration in showbiz.
"Things for actresses have not changed. To be very honest, people are trying, everybody is trying and that's the best thing," said the actress, who comes from an affluent film family.
She agrees that the remuneration bar should be upped, but feels that she is not the right person to talk about it.
"Like I said, we need to do it. It's easy for me to make these choices because I have got a comfortable background. So I am going to be the last person to be judgmental about anybody.
"I am not even trying to be modest about it. There are people who can do it. Those who are strong in this industry - like successful girls right now - Deepika Padukone, Anushka Sharma, Sonakshi Sinha - they can voice their opinion. I have a long way to go," she said.
However, she pointed out that filmmaking is a business and remuneration is directly linked to box-office profits.
"At the end of the day, the film industry is a business. If we are not going to make that kind of money for them (the filmmakers), they are not going to pay us that kind of money."
Is the profit margin shared with actors and actresses?
"You get the profit margin if you are the lead of the film and if the film is being sold on your name, then you do get it. It's that's up to you and your lawyers, agents, etc. So you can be smart about it."

Anurag Kashyap To Wow New York With Ugly

Ugly Main cover

The year was 2012. Bollywood filmmaker and auteur Anurag Kashyap’s film Gangs of Wasseypur was the closing film at the prestigious New York Indian Film Festival (NYIFF). And now, in 2014, the prolific filmmaker is all set to return to the festival, with his latest offering Ugly.

All of Anurag Kashyap’s films so far have had a gritty, dark undertone to them. His films are raw, real and hard-hitting, and perhaps this is why his films do so well in foreign countries. His cinema is diametrically opposite to the typical “fluff”, or masala potboilers churned out by Bollywood, year on year.

This year, Kashyap will bring his sensational tale of deceit, corruption, and systemic violence to the NYIFF, in the form of Ugly. The film is the tale of the mysterious disappearance of an aspiring actor’s young daughter, and the journey he undertakes to retrieve her.

Interestingly, the NYIFF is in its 14th year of existence. Said festival director and noted film critic in the U.S. Aseem Chhabra, “We are thrilled to be opening this year’s New York Indian Film Festival with Anurag Kashyap’s new film Ugly. Anurag has been in the forefront of India’s growing indie films movement, always pushing the boundaries and inspiring the new generation of filmmakers. Personally I am a big fan of his films.”

Along with the screening, the filmmaker will be seen at a post-screening conversation, which will be followed by the opening night gala event, with celebrated IAAC supporters and other filmmakers in attendance.

Along with Ugly, Aparna Sen’s latest film Goynar Baksho will also be screened. In fact, her film will close the prestigious festival, which will take place between 5-10 May this year, at various iconic New York City venues.
