After calling truce, what will Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan do next?

After calling truce, what will Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan do next?

The two Khans have been at loggerheads for as long as anyone can remember
Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan have finally made peace after six long years. It’s more than the fans and the snaparazzi that’s over the moon. Pictures and videos of their recent hugs went viral the moment the patch-up happened. But now that it has, here’s what we can expect in this time of peace….

Peace between fans

The two Khans might not have been feuding as much as their fans who took to social networks to wage all-out war all the time. Chalo, ek comment aisa bhi aayega: Itna sannata kyun hai bhai?

Club snub

Remember how you wouldn’t see one group never mix with the other Khan’s buddies? Now it’s going to be all like hum saath-saath hain. Booooooringgg!

Collection clash khatam

More than a Khan film’s content, it’s the collections that gets a nation’s (and the trade’s) pulse racing. Happy New Year or Kick? Will Salman release his film on Diwali (SRK’s special festival release time)? Box office ka king kaun? All these questions will never come up.

Cameo parade

On screen, you saw them come together for OSO’s Deewangi Deewangi track. Since their fallout, they haven’t shot a frame together. But now that Bhai went all out to promote SRK’s HNY on Bigg Boss 8, we guess it’s time King Khan made his debut on the show. Who knows SRK-Kajol might just end up celebrating DDLJ’s 1000th week on BB8! Better still, Salman could recommend SRK for BB9.

Two’s company

Bromance is as old as Andaz Apna Apna or Karan Arjun. And while one rarely sees two-hero outings these days, the bhaigiri was on full show in both films as well as in Salman’s special appearance in KKHH. Somebody put these two actors together already!

Pics and paps

Feud notwithstanding, both Khans posed for the cameras together, grabbing headlines everytime they did so. Twice at politician Baba Siddiqui’s iftaar bashes and once at an awards event last year, their warm hugs showed they were ready for peace. And after the reunion at the Arpita wedding, the two danced the night away at her reception to Chaiyya Chaiyya. The photo-ops in the near future will sure #breaktheinternet!

Trailer thrillers

Cross promotion will be the order of the day with each endorsing the other’s projects. And who knows, sooner rather than later, the two could attach promos of their upcoming films to the other’s releases. Imagine the eyeballs! Salman’s Prem Ratan Dhan Payo trailer hits screens in August next year while SRK’s Fan will be out on Independence Day. And this time, if the two come together, it will be because of the Khans themselves and not the production house (the last time, YRF made it happen.

Man 'reprimands' Gauhar Khan for 'wearing short dress', slaps her on crowded set

Gauhar Khan. AFP.

Model and actor Gauhar Khan was today slapped by an audience member while she was hosting 'India's Raw Star', a reality show, at Film City in suburban Goregaon, police said.
Gauhar Khan was attacked and threatened by an audience member who said that, "being a Muslim woman, she should not have worn such a short dress", Aarey Colony police said.
The accused, identified as Mohammed Akil Mallick (24), slapped and touched her inappropriately during the break of the show, but was immediately overpowered by the security guards deployed there, following which the police were notified.

According to a report on Hindustan Times, there were 250 bouncers present at the venue, which had 2,500 people as audience. Yet, the man managed to break the security cordon and get into an argument with Khan.
HT quotes a source: "While he was being escorted out of the place, he managed to go up on stage and slapped her. The source adds, “It was chaos after the security pulled the man away. Gauahar was shocked and was crying a lot. A stunned Gauahar didn’t understand what happened. Though the shooting was stopped, Gauahar took a break of an hour to gather her bearings and then reported back on stage to finish the leftover one hour shoot.”
Senior inspector at Aarey police station, Vilas Chavan, told PTI that the accused was subsequently arrested and booked under IPC sections 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt), 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) and 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation). Mallick will be produced before the court tomorrow.

"We must all do what we can to protect ourselves and our loved ones from this disease. The first step toward it is to create awareness and educate people about breast cancer. I too had my first Breast Cancer test at 23 as my grandmother and my aunt had cancer. So you must be aware and get your tests done!" Tanishaa adds. The actress-turned-producer has a strong determination and the never-say-never spirit it takes to contribute significantly to the fight against a disease as lethal as cancer.

Tanisha Mukherjee not afraid to

In a country where the female body is still considered taboo, she believes that the fear shouldn’t stop a woman from caring about her own body. Tanishaa is among the first female celebrities to have initiated a full-fledged campaign to bring the topic out in the open this Cancer Awareness Month.

Aamir as Saying "Yes, I got to know about the patch-up. In fact they didn't let me sleep the entire night."

SRK and Salman kiss Arpita Khan

Aamir has earlier attempted to broker peace between the feuding Khans. And now that the patch-up has finally happened, there was no getting away for Aamir from the post-reunion celebration.
According to the report all the three Khans face-timed at 2:30 am.
In the same report, Aamir said, "Around 1:30 am they first called me and informed about it, then around 2:30 am we did a face-time call. So this went around till early morning and they kept me awake."
According to reports, Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan patched up few days back at Arpita Khan's pre-wedding ceremony after Salman went and personally invited him to the wedding. The picture where the two of them shared a bhai moment and were seen kissing Arpita went viral.
Reports also suggest that SRK who dropped by to bless the bride-to-be had a discussion with Salman and cleared all their previous differences.
Six years back, SRK and Salman had a major fallout at Katrina Kaif's birthday. Five years later, the duo made former MLA Baba Siddique's Iftar party famous by hugging each other, two years in a row.
It seems, they won't need an Iftar party to do that this year.

Interstellar review: Christopher Nolan's visual spectacle gets lost in space

Interstellar
Cast: Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain, Mackenzie Foy
Director: Christopher Nolan
Rating: 3.5

'Ashes to ashes, dust to dust.'

It is a rather morbid line to open a review with, but then, it does justice to Christopher Nolan's (Inception, Memento) space odyssey, Interstellar.

The film is set in future and Earth is close to an apocalypse.

Pioneers are frowned upon and space exploration (read Apollo voyage to Moon) is dismissed in school textbooks as America's propaganda to bankrupt USSR.

Humans have a more important task at hand than looking for worlds beyond: to grow food in face of a blight which has finished off all crops other than corn. Dust bowls loom on the horizon and threaten to suffocate the planet.

Talking about this death-by-dust scenario, Matthew McConaughey's ace NASA test pilot-turned-reluctant farmer Cooper says, "We used to look up in the sky and wonder at our place in the stars, and now we just look down and worry about our place in the dirt."

Father to Tom and Murph (named after Murphy's law), Cooper is interested in all things technical and refuses to bend to the theory that space travel is waste of time. To press this point, we see him chasing after an India Air Force drone which seems to have lost its way in the countryside America.

Their 'normal' existence of breakfast and shelves laden with books goes for a toss when Cooper is asked to join a space mission, which is humanity's last chance of survival. Cooper finds this ultra-secret NASA facility (the last ever) with help of certain encrypted signals and his precocious daughter's sleuthing. Here they meet Dr Brand (Michael Caine), an ageing scientist who believes the only way humans can survive is by not saving the world, but by leaving it.

Elysium and After Earth in the recent past have suggested a colony in space as a viable alternative but Interstellar adds a human touch to the idea. That will also be a first for Nolan who is known for skirting emotions for intellect.

Cooper has to leave behind his family, especially his daughter who may never forgive him for abandoning her. Nolan has described this film as the story of fathers and daughters and probably that's where its strength lies.

As he takes off for the stars along with three other scientists, we meet another daughter -- Brand's daughter also referred to as Brand (Anne Hathaway). An analogy on fathers and daughters leaving each other with promises and regret, this will count as one of Nolan's most emotional films.

There's humour too - in form of an R2D2-like prsonality-infused robot Tars.

Will these intergalactic explorers find an alternative universe which is habitable? Who are the God-like alien beings who are allegedly pushing the humanity along with coded signs? Will Cooper ever meet his daughter again? Will humanity be saved and what kind of world awaits it? Nolan deals with these questions with Nolan-like magnitude and scale.

Where others might have used shiny CGI, Nolan uses real locations and props (Iceland as two alien planets). Hollywood needs to understand there can be too much of computer-generated effects and this visual spectacle of film can act as a textbook case of how to do it.

McConaughey is perfectly cast as a man who knows this mission is his destiny but cannot come to terms with leaving his family. A balanced mix of determination and vulnerability, he makes this cinematic expedition worthwhile. Hathaway is forceful despite getting rather trite dialogues; a special mention being her 'love conquers all' speech aboard the spaceship. Another inspired performance  is Mackenzie Foy as the young Murph.

An enjoyable and exacting journey filled with quantum mechanics, wormholes, black holes, theory of relativity, singularity and space-time continuum, the trouble of this one lies in its climax where the director out-Nolans himself.

One goes to a Nolan film expecting intellectual grandeur, philosophy and a belief that cinema can challenge your mind. The film delivers all of that largely but fails near the climax. Too much scientific mumbo-jumbo competes with too much mushiness and we come up with one big naught.

In a quest to tie up so many plot lines in a neat little ending, the film loses its sense of impending doom and nerve-wracking suspense. One would have thought that a director like Nolan could have ended this rather long and dazzling film (167 minutes) with a big bang. Instead, it gets too tangled up in the web of its own aspirations and ends with a whimper.

Despite the complaints, this is one intergalactic trip the audience needs to take. It may not match up to those touchstones of sci-fi cinema - Solaris and 2001: A Space Odyssey but it finds its place in pantheon of films which dare to dream. - See more at:

‘The Shaukeens’ review: Nothing much lifts of in the movie

The free-spirited Lisa Haydon, who was so good in ‘Queen’, quickly becomes tiresome.

The Shaukeens movie review: The free-spirited Lisa Haydon, who was so good in ‘Queen’, quickly becomes tiresome

Three dirty old men `leching’ at a pretty young thing is what ‘The Shaukeens’ sets out to show. If it had stuck to its guns, made its threesome more interesting, and the girl less ditsy, this remake of Basu Chatterjee’s ‘Shaukeen’ (1982), would have done its job.
But the reprise mixes a star (Akshay Kumar) swanning about playing himself, and doing, I might add, a better job than he has in his last few films, which takes away from the chief focus. Which is not such a bad thing, because the trio of dirty old men KD, Lali and Pinky (Anuu Kapoor, Anupam Kher and Piyush Mishra) is dull: when they are on screen, nothing much lifts off, not even the object of their desire, the lissome bikini-clad (Lisa Haydon) cavorting in the lovely blue ocean in Mauritius, where most of the film is set in.
The free-spirited Lisa Haydon, who was so good in ‘Queen’, quickly becomes tiresome. You can see she is trying hard, but she can’t do anything about the way her character has been written. And that’s the problem with the men, too. The little details — Rati Agnihotri was in the original ‘Shaukeen’, and has a cameo here as Anupam Kher’s not-interested wife;  Piyush Mishra plays a ‘masala’ king with a ‘non-masala’ life with a soft spot for a massage girl; and Annu Kapoor is the ‘dil-phenk’ bachelor with a sad back-story—could have been made much more of.
It is Akshay Kumar, playing himself, or rather a superstar like himself with a thing for alcohol and a sudden yen for actorly respectability via a National award, who is the best part of the film. This is the star getting away from the things he pokes fun at— “same helicopter se latakna, same car chases” etc which lead to the ‘200 crore club’, and finding his funny bone. But those jokes get stretched, and finally we stop even faintly sniggering, like we did at the occasional haha-inducing lines.
And how much crassness can be stuffed into a film? After its third mention, I stopped counting the times ‘tharki’ and ‘buddhas’ were said in the same breath.
