Top 10 Movies of Veteran Actress Nanda






Veteran actor, Nanda died in Mumbai on Tuesday at the age of 75. According to reports, she died following a heart attack at her residence.

She began her film career as a child artist at the age of 8 when her uncle, V. Shantaram, gave her a break by casting her in a brother-sister story ‘Toofan Aur Diya’.

Nanda acted in such films as:

Jab Jab Phool Khile (1965)

This is one of the many hit movies of Nanda co-starring Shashi Kapoor. The film tells the story of a poor boatman in Kashmir who falls in love with a rich tourist girl. The movie became a box-office hit and its songs are remembered even today.

Gumnaam (1965)

Here Nanda appears as one among a group of travellers stranded on an island and end up dead one by one. This unforgettable thriller was adapted from the Agatha Christie classic ‘And Then There Were None’, co-starring Manoj Kumar, Pran and Helen.

Chhoti Bahen (1959)

In this movie Nanda played the blind younger sister being looked after by two elder brothers, played by Balraj Sahni and Rehman.

Hum Dono (1961)

Dev Anand appears in a dual role as lookalike military men in a case of mistaken identity. Nanda and Sadhana are his two heroines.

Kala Bazaar (1960)

The movie saw Waheeda Rahman in a prominent role where the three Anand brothers featured together. This movie marked the beginning of the friendship between Waheeda Rahman and Nanda.

Aanchal (1960)

The movie starred Ashok Kumar, Nanda, Lalita Pawar and Nirupa Roy was directed by Vasant Joglekar. Nanda won the Filmfare Award for the Best Supporting Actress for her role.

Teen Deviyan (1965)

Dev Anand plays a poet in the movie who falls in love with three different women – Kalpana, Simi Garewal and Nanda. The movie is remembered for its wonderful music by S D Burman.

In this crime thriller, Nanda was seen playing opposite Rajesh Khanna, who is suspected of murdering his wife and is on the run. Khanna takes refuge in Nanda’s home and holds her at gunpoint. Nanda received a Filmfare nomination for Best Actress.

The Train (1970)

Nanda is known to have convinced co-producer Rajendra Kumar — her co-star from ‘Dhool Ka Phool’ and ‘Kanoon’ — to cast the struggling Rajesh Khanna as a cop investigating a series of murders committed on a train. Nanda played his mysterious girlfriend.

Mazdoor (1983)

In this exciting drama, Nanda portrays the role of Dilip Kumar’s wife, who is a labourer-turned-mill owner. The family fortunes mount, but things change after their daughter’s wedding.
