Shruti dons Rs 1 cr dress

Shruti Haasan had an expensive outing on the ramp on Thursday at the HDIL India Couture Week in Mumbai.

After all, it's not everyday that a showstopper gets to don a bustier worth Rs 1 crore as Shruti did for designer Manav Gangwani.

"Shruti's corset was worth a crore. It had a very detailed work, including several rose-cut semi-precious stones. She has a very sexy and rockstar image that made it easy for her to carry the dress," Gangwani said.

This was the singer-actress's third outing on the ramp, but she walked the runway for the first time for the Delhi- based designer.

Shruti on her part was taken aback by the sheer glamour of the dress.

Initially, Kamal Haasan and Sarika's daughter was a little worried about the heavy attire.

The buzz was that Shruti, who is the lead vocalist for rock band The Extramentals, looked a bit trapped in the heavy dress. It almost looked like it would trip her.

Gangwani laughed it off. Shruti may not have looked comfortable in the dress because she was a bit nervous. "Probably that's why she walked a bit slowly on the runway," he said.

Actor Zayed Khan too walked the alongside Shruti for Gangwani whose collection, titled A Tempestuous Affaire, was inspired by a piece of emerald. "The gold embroidery on my creations show how an emerald is cut," Gangwani said.

The designer used fabrics like velvet, satin, delicate nets, georgette and antique lace, along with glistening lame and brocade. The colour palette had black, gold and emerald tones.

Apparently, the show began almost two hours late. Spotted at the do were Soha Ali Khan, Raveena Tandon, Chunky Pandey, Dia Mirza, Manish Malhotra, Manyata Dutt, Sanjay Gupta, Sophie Choudhry and Kunal Khemu among others.
